Earendil Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 if you're a cynical bastigewas the "if" truly needed? :-)I like the 11 lineman idea, as long as they can all run a 4.25 40 and cover Torey Smith :-)If we had 11 lineman like Geno Atkins, there's no QB in the league that would live long enough to get the ball to Torrey Smith. Also, I am pretty pleased at the chatter from Harrison today.Agreed. He handled some of those particularly stupid questions well. I want to slap the guy that wasted his time with: "James, what does the word 'leadership' mean to you?"He should have responded "I'll show you leadership when I lead by example and slap the piss out of you." Stripes Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 Has Marvin ever not placed a high priority on DE? There's really nothing to read into here. He wants to keep the team's strength as a strength. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 To me, you dont do that by drafting another DE, you keep the double digit sack guys you have Quote
Stripes Posted April 23, 2013 Report Posted April 23, 2013 I honestly don't think Marvin perceives it as a choice. He wants to do both. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 23, 2013 Author Report Posted April 23, 2013 Either way around, I don't see Geathers here after this season anyway.Yeah, I think he wants both as well, but is preparing in case it doesn't happen. Quote
volcom69 Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Marvin says he expects to sign Thomas Howard in July. So sounds like they will have pretty good linebacker depth. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 I can't say as I would mind at all seeing Howard brought back to back up Burfict.I still don't think it would change the draft strategy at this point either. Quote
volcom69 Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Oh no it's not going to change it at all, just better depth Quote
TJJackson Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Marvin says he expects to sign Thomas Howard in July. HoosierCat Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Harrison contract details are out:/>http://www.cincyjungle.com/2013/4/24/4260876/james-harrisons-deal-worth-3-million-in-20132 years, $4.45 million, $1.2 million signing bonus, $3 million total in year 1. Quote
jjakq27 Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Harrison contract details are out:http://www.cincyjung...million-in-20132 years, $4.45 million, $1.2 million signing bonus, $3 million total in year 1.Pretty good deal. We exchanged Harrison for Lawson and that's an upgrade. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 Hard to complain about those numbers. He would have made that this year alone had he taken the reduced contract the Steelers offered him. Quote
bwillycuse Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 If by some miracle we get Andre signed, I applaud the front office for their offseason. Though I think they gave Mauluga too much (I prefer he was with another team) and hope they can hash out a deal for Johnson instead of the franchise tag.Harrison deal is extremely Bengals friendly. TJJackson Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Harrison contract details are out:2 years, $4.45 million, $1.2 million signing bonus, $3 million total in year 1.Ok, thats tolerable, I suppose Quote
HoosierCat Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Yeah, I was figuring it would fall in the $4-6 million range. It's a reasonable deal by any measure. The one interesting thing was the signing bonus, those seem to be getting rarer these days. It's clearly a sign of how interested the Bengals were. Quote
UK Bengal Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 That was around what the steelers were offering in a restructured deal but he wouldnt take it lol Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 24, 2013 Author Report Posted April 24, 2013 The Steelers deal would have netted him almost the same in 2013 alone than what we are paying him for both seasons here in Cincinnati. It was a seriously Bengal friendly deal for sure. That and it makes it easy to get rid of him after this season as well.Win win for the good guys in my book. Quote
Stripes Posted April 24, 2013 Report Posted April 24, 2013 Yeah that's a very good deal for the Bengals. I have my doubts that Harrison will amount to anything, but I can't complain about the price. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 I would almost HOPE that he doesn't amount to anything.Due to the fact we draft a young OLB early and we can't keep him off the field.Harrison is shown the door after 2013 and we are set at the position for the next handful of seasons.Hope he does well if that's not the case however. That was news to me... Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 25, 2013 Author Report Posted April 25, 2013 That leaves room for the new guy to make an impression.I know many won't agree, but i'm still curious about Maybin.Brandon Joiner is also an unknown.I'm not expecting Burfict type of play out of them, but i'm intrigued. Quote

Let Zimmer work some magic and extract his potential. As for Harrison, I think he will do well but not in same manner as he was in Pitt. He is underrated when dropping in coverage. I think his biggest contribution will be to negate opponent TE's. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 25, 2013 Report Posted April 25, 2013 Still no sign of the Flesh Zeppelin here at the 11th and a half hourI guess it is time to move onAt this point, I dont even want him for a 1 year deal anymore. Give Collins and the rook they'll select (hopefully the one from NC) those practice reps, and give the dollars saved to Dunlap and Atkins Quote
