Carson Palmer Thread

Now you and I (and pretty much any sane person) would not leave a job paying 50 million over the next 3 years, even if the job consisted of 40 hours a week of scrubbing Mike Brown's floor with a toothbrush while continuously exclaiming what a wonderful fellow and great GM he is

As is no way I would turn down 50million,But if I was sitting on 30 million in the bank already had a nice house and everything else I could nee dthen Ya I feel like I could turn down 50million rather then work for a insane jack ass...I think if carson walks away shows mow passion for sport because he wants to win he wants to go somewhere he can compete vs being attached to this P.o.S team his entire career.

His apparent willingness and even desire to bring Chad back for another performance boggles the mind. What, exactly, is he trying to accomplish? It's pretty obvious his younger guys are better. His quarterback is making it clear he doesn't want Chad back. Chad himself doesn't want to come back. I don't think he has any fans that want him back. Where is the logic behind this? What's the upside Mike Brown seeks?

At a guess, I would say the over-riding factor is that at some point in the last few years, they picked up his 2011 option. We know how Mike feels about bonuses, that they constitute an advance on salary, not an actual bonus per se. So in his mind he's already paid for Chad for 2011. And that's why I am far from convinced by all the "Chad will be gone" talk.

There's zero chance that Chad is let go. None.

Which will make it all the more interesting after this offseason of Marvin bashing him every chance he can. Camp's gonna be extra fun this year.

Mike shoves Chad down Marvin's throat? Easy answer. Pine him. If I'm Marvin, Chad barely gets any reps in practice, and is inactive for every game. He never sees the field, and his teammates are instructed to ignore his stupidity.

Mike can then accept that he's not the coach of the Bengals, or he can fire Marvin. Either way this ongoing s**t show gets put to rest.

Oh yea cant wait we can see a player and a coach get into fights during training camp  How stupid, if they do not get rid of him, it would be the biggest mistake this team has made, they dont get along at all so why not just end it!!!!!

I think we would all love that to happen. We know who really runs the show, however. Mike Brown won't pay Chad 6 million to sit the bench.

No mention yet of Bernie Kosar possibly being brought in?

PFT

Kosar could land with Pats, Bengals

Posted by Mike Florio on January 27, 2011, 8:23 PM EST

For the past several years, it seemed at times inevitable that former NFL quarterback Bernie Kosar would take a job with the Browns. At one point, he was rumored to be in line for the G.M. position.

Wisely, team president Mike Holmgren decided upon taking the job in 2010 to minimize the influence of the Browns’ former players, which meant freezing out Kosar.

Now, Kosar could be taking a job with a team other than the Browns.

Greg Bedard of the Boston Globe (via Cleveland.com) reports that Kosar has been “poking around” the Patriots, and that Kosar “hopes to get into coaching.” A connection between Kosar and Pats coach Bill Belichick would be curious to say the least, given that Belichick bounced Bernie out of Cleveland.

Meanwhile, Tony Rizzo of WKNR reports that the Bengals have been talking to Kosar about a position.

Maybe, given Carson Palmer’s desire to be traded, the position is starting quarterback.

It's in the Brat thread.

Jordan Palmer retirement parody

“Let it be known that I am drawing a line in the sand,” said Jordan Palmer. “Trade my brother, or I am going to shut down my illustrious NFL career and focus 100% of my efforts on my phenomenal internet sensation RunPee.com.” Jordan then said that any and all questions should be directed to his agent, as soon as he hires one.

So I'm trying to think what the better option would be for the Bengals in regard to Carson.

If we had a GM, this is a situation that could net the Bengals a bunch of draft picks. There are more than a couple teams looking at the QB position right behind us and not only do we have one who wants a trade, but sitting in a position to have another team trade up ahead of Arizona.

There are certainly advantages and disadvantages to either way, but if their concern is selling tickets, there are worse things they could do than see what Carson's trade could bring the team.

I seriously think Mike's strategy is to trade Chad for "something", whatever he can get.

I love it if he'd just release Chad. What makes you think Mike will get rid of him?

I think Marvin made it clear to MB that having Chad around is counterproductive. I think getting rid of Chad is one of the changes they're talking about. Of course I could be wrong. If MB can't get anything for Chad then we're stuck with him. I doubt he will cut Chad

I hope that Palmer never plays a snap for the Bengals.

I hope that either he plays for another team and gets a chance to revive his career. Or he retires.

Playing for the Bengals for another season is not good for Palmer or the Bengals, especially not in the long run.

I feel ya on that,I think Carson helps us the most by not playing for us next season does he give us a greater chance to win in 2011? acourse But If he Retires it sticks to Mike Brown and maybe will wake the old fing coger up....Or Draft Picks to help future team because Were not a contender next year so we may as well try look down the road when this coaching staff finally moves on.

Its time for Carson to go, he is not the same QB as he once was, and he does not want to play here!!! If he does not want to give his all, then he is good for nothing going forward.

I just have to think that sometime soon there has to be another meeting between everyone including Palmer and his agent to see exactly want Palmer wants, and what he thinks would make him stay in this org. Who knows maybe Brown gives him what he wants a shake up with the offense coaching staff, but even so does Carson stay, do we want him to stay!!! This offseason sucks, but its crazy and never ending lol lol

I'll go on record as saying that if Palmer leaves, it will be a disaster for the Bengals.

Anyone who thinks Palmer was the problem wasn't paying attention the last three weeks of the season.

Palmer just didn't do better sans TO & 85 -- it was practically a worst-to-first turnaround.

Over the first 13 weeks, Palmer's completion percentage was about 60.5% and the team's passing YPA were 5.95. If those had been Carson's numbers for all 16 games he would have been around 20th in completion percentage and ahead of only Jimmy Claussen in YPA.

The last three games? 69.7% completion rate and a YPA of 8.8. It those has been full-season numbers, Palmer would have ranked No. 1 in those categories.

Oh, and his TD-INT ratio went from 1.2 TDs to 1 pick to 2.5 TDs to 1 pick.

Three lucky games? Maybe, but the leap is so stark and sudden it's hard to reach any other conclusion than that the problem with the O wasn't Carson, or even Brat, it was TO & Chad.

Now we have a situation where Carson might be gone and Brat and Chad might be back. I can't blame Carson for wanting out, but if he follows through and retires, the Bengals are screwed.
