Bengals president Mike Brown confirmed Monday that quarterback Carson Palmer met with him last week and requested a trade and that he turned him down.

"He's key to our plans. He's central to us. He was told that. We count on him going forward. He was told we were in no position to trade him, Brown said here at the Senior Bowl. "It would not be something we would consider doing...We are not looking for offers."

Just about at "last straw" point with this team. My ability to cope with and rationalize the dysfunction is at the breaking point.

I learned not to give my heart (or my money) to this team a long time ago. I haven't had the privilege of talking smack in support of the Bengals since the Boomer/Bernie days.

Just wanted to give a little back round on David Dunn, Carson’s agent. I hired him and Athletes First after the 2005 season. Good classy people and they work well with top QBs. From Drew Bledsoe, Trent Dilfer, M Hassleback, Palmer, M Sanchez, A Rodgers, and many more. So they know what they are doing here. They have a great relationship with the Bengals as well. Not only doing Carson’s deal, but did Corey Dillon’s, TJ Houshmandzadeh’s deal, Akili Smith’s, and DC Mike Zimmer’s deal. I could probably find more names but you get the point. These guys wouldn’t let something like this get out unless they meant business. I’m also sure that they know the current QB market out there and have a good place in mind for Carson. If the Bengals told Dave to go out and find us a good deal for Palmer, I’m sure he could. But if Mike Brown says no, this could drag out. How about Carson to the 49ers? Jim Harbaugh just signed a big deal to become the 49ers new coach and the have zero QBs. And guess who negotiated the deal for Harbaugh? David Dunn.

They both expressed profound disappointment in how the team fared last season, and in how it has generally performed during Carson's tenure with the team. Because of the lack of success that Carson and the Bengals have experienced together, Carson strongly feels that a separation between him and the Bengals would be in the best interest of both parties. Carson could not respect the Brown family any more than he does or be more appreciative of what the Browns have done for him and his wife Shaelyn and his family.

I had a weird - never before seen shift in my attitude about 1/3 of the way into this past season. I went from very engaged and excited to apathetic, resentful, and mildly annoyed. I haven’t felt that way since the late nineties and I realized I had been fooled twice so shame on me.

Whatever is going on with Palmer is just a symptom of a bigger problem. I’m amazed at the posts that say he sucks and he’s the reason the Bengals fell face first into the s**tpile. Palmer is a very solid QB. Put him in a better system and he’s on fire.

The issue? The Bengals organization is just a giant soup-sandwich.

SoP may have Carson in his plans but Carson does not have the Bengals in his.

It is this dense, short-sighted inflexibility that mires this team in antiquated decision making and management.

Carson does not seem like a guy who will cave. I have a feeling Carson has thrown his last NFL pass, if SoP carries on with this nonsense.

SoP, you are an embarrassment.

I think what he was trying to say is that it's only natural for players to be bummed and pointing fingers after such a bad season, but he thinks Carson will "come around" and it will all be better later, time heals all wounds, blah, blah, blah.

The opinion I hold of sports agents is generally lower than used car salesmen, rent-a-center, payday loan centers, evangelists with their palm up and outstretched at every given opportunity, and (sorry Greg) lawyers in general. I basically ignore statements from agents.

I have even less respect for Son-of-Paul, so I ignore his statement as well

That said, if I assume that what we now know is the basic truth of it, my gut tells me this goes the Barry Sander's route barring some minor miracle.

Wow. It pains me to say it, but I'm with those who are on the cusp of dropping this team altogether. As a fan of Palmer, he's one of the few things that represents anything good or hopeful about this franchise. I have no appetite to start cheering for the next Klingler or Smith. Hobson seems to think trades can still happen up to the expiration of the CBA in March but every other source I've seen (including Reedy) says no.
