kingwilly
Getting Nelson, and putting him in this defense, is a very very good move. This guy is a serious player. Love the move.

cincyhokie
Great great move.I love this team lately. Making moves that have little risk. Making moves with greater risk. Admitting mistakes and cutting players who don't fit....TO, A. Jones, Benson, trading when needed....love it.
Stripes
I can't think of any reason to complain. Our 5th cornerback traded for a player whose immense upside might stabilize our safety problem? Hell, he might be an upgrade over Gibril Wilson. It's easy to exaggerate though, since Nelson was a player many of us wanted the year he went in the first round. It can't be ignored that he's done essentially nothing since. We'll see whether it was the Jags moving him to CB or him simply not being the player he looked like he could be. HoosierCat
Per Reedy the Bengals tossed in a conditional pick in 2011, too. Dot know what the details are.

He is somebody who can take over when Roy or Chris isnt playing. Awsome move!
Stripes
Something isn't right somewhere because he had a great rookie season.I thought so too, but sometimes looks are deceiving. A guy like Dunta Robinson is a good example of a player who made a lot of big plays as a rookie which ended up masking his actual poor play for that year and the many that have come after. I'm confident that Nelson will be okay though, typically this defensive staff has been pretty damned good at picking up defensive talent which also fits the scheme. I'm hoping what wasn't right was that he was out of position. I have a good feeling about this trade.

JoeMama
Reggie Nelson is horrendously bad. You'll find that out soon enough.I live in Jax and have seen most of his games. He is one of the worst pass defenders in the league. Somewhere, there's a youtube video showing all his ridiculously busted plays.

membengal
Great proactive move by Cincy. Agree with thought upthread that this is a Bengals front office of a different stripe of late.

Cmon...Those numbers don't suggest to me that he wasn't horrendously bad. I'm not saying he's that awful either, especially since he won't even play the same position here that he played in Jacksonville. I simply don't figure any arbitrary tackle total or only five passes defensed is enough to convince anyone of a defensive back's worth. Interceptions are rather reliant upon circumstance too, and make bad players like Antonio Cromartie took better than they are.

Every player on this defense was horrilbe till Zimmer came and coached. Crocker was horrilbe, Roy Williams was horrilbe, Adam Jones was horrilbe, so right about now ill take a horrilbe Reggie Nelson over a CB that will not play. ArmyBengal
Some players just need a change in scenery and this is one change I absolutely love. Put Nelson in our secondary, with JJoe and Hall at the corner spots and I have little issue. Does he have issues ?? Maybe, but who doesn't ?? Not only that, but my buddy is who is HUGE Jags fan says they never used him properly and were constantly moving him around to different positions when there was coaching changes. There is only one position he will be playing here and that, coupled with the other players, wil benefit him AND the Bengals.Plus we got him for a player many thought wouldn't even make this team to begin with. Low risk I would say, right ??

But he has major problems as a safety net; he blows way too many big plays to be considered a "good" safety. He's middle of the road at best.I think a lot of people are being blind-sided by his draft position. Go browse some Jax forums and see what people who watch him every Sunday think of him. Like I said, you'll understand once the season's underway. He can take nobodys (what this defense was) and make them play to there top potential. He will move back to his normal postion, and with Zimmer i bet his tackling will improve so much.So many guys here will tell you what the tackling, and what this defense was before Zimmer got here.....it was crap!!!! TecmoFever
It is easy to get hyped on Nelson based on his draft position and potential coming out of college, but let's just assume that he is what he has been at Jacksonville--and that is a safety who was good enough to start double-digit games. All I know is that if one or two of our three brittle safeties goes down, I feel a LOT better knowing that Reggie Nelson will be on the field instead of the likes of Kyries Hebert, Rico Murray, or Tom Nelson. For that piece of mind--and knowing that all we gave up for him was a quality, but expendable player--I am VERY happy about this trade. Throw in the bonus of knowing that we got a talented player with two years left on his contract who could hypothetically be a quality starter if he is put in the right situation with the right coaching, and I'm VERY, VERY happy with this trade. (Yes, that was a major run-on sentence.)
