HoosierCat Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 The Bengals’ off-season program has kicked off. Completing day 1 without incident: Erick All. https://www.wlwt.com/article/bengals-te-erick-all-full-participant-day-1-offseason/71075096 Good news I suppose. Liked him in what brief time he had before getting hurt again. Will see if he’s got anything left. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 If that dude stays healthy, he's a really solid piece in the TE room. Problem is, he's literally NEVER healthy for any period of time going back to his early college days. I'm rooting for the kid though !! 1 Quote

ArmyBengal Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 Just another former coach/player that has that stupid look on their face. Seeing as how it's Tomlin, think that x10. 1 Quote
Prophecy Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 Would be more entertaining if they hired Omar Epps to do a Mike Tomlin impersonation. 1 Quote
Prophecy Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Report Posted Thursday at 11:56 PM Here's an offseason question? Why the F*ck dont the Bengals reach out to every recently retired DE to bring them in for a month in the offseason to coach up Shemar Stewart? Invest in your damn investment! While some guys like Jason Taylor (U of Miami) and Dwight Freeney (Syracuse) may have obligations with some schools (i believe they can still do individual coaching) there are guys like Jared Allen practicing Curling, and as far as I know, the original "Freak" Jevon Kearse is mentoring kids in Florida. Fly them out, give them $50k-$100k for a month or two to just show Stewart (and Myles) some techniques and tips? No offense to Bengals Dline coach Jerry Montgomery, but he was a DT who didn't know jack about playing DE. These kids need a mentor with proven success at the position! 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted Friday at 11:40 AM Author Report Posted Friday at 11:40 AM Looks like Cody Ford got a haircut. Salary cap expert Andrew Perrota noticed on Over The Cap that the team cut Cody Ford’s 2026 pay down to a league-minimum deal. “Based on Over The Cap, it looks like Cody Ford agreed to a pay cut for 2026,” Perrota posted on Twitter. “Previously, Ford was scheduled to earn $2.9 million in cash (non-GRTD) in 2026. His new 2026 base salary (cash earnings) is down to the league minimum (for a player with Ford’s number of credited seasons) of $1.3M. Cap and cash savings of $1.6M. https://www.cincyjungle.com/cincinnati-bengals-news/190372/cody-ford-pay-cut-2026-nfl-season Quote

ArmyBengal Posted Sunday at 10:19 PM Report Posted Sunday at 10:19 PM For those thinking veteran linebacker, I would have zero issues with adding Bobby Wagner. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted yesterday at 03:11 PM Report Posted yesterday at 03:11 PM Also, maybe a veteran CB to add to the mix. I'm not sold on the depth at that position either. How they don't address the depth of the linebacking corps is an unknown for me. Like they suck. They could literally bring in almost anyone and the depth would improve. TJ, would your dead gramma be open to a position change? Wait, that didn't come out right.... 1 Quote

HoosierCat Posted yesterday at 06:37 PM Author Report Posted yesterday at 06:37 PM Friday is the deadline to pick up Murphy’s option. No decision yet apparently. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bengals-still-weighing-decision-on-myles-murphys-fifth-year-option Quote
ArmyBengal Posted yesterday at 07:56 PM Report Posted yesterday at 07:56 PM I know some people speak to his play and hope he turns out this year. My thing is, I don't think it's going to happen. I'm in a, "If it was going to happen, it would have happened" thought process. Maybe he turns all world this season, I just don't think so. Hell, some are projecting Howell to earn the starting spot. That might be a big IF as well, but all things are possible at this point when seeing how poor the defense has been. OH.... I expect them to pick it up. Quote
HoosierCat Posted 23 hours ago Author Report Posted 23 hours ago Well, I think we’ve had the conversation on that front. All I know is this from Hobs today: Quote The Bengals have to make a decision next week on the fifth-year option for edge Myles Murphy, which goes for about $14 million. They still may do it and always have, but after spending nearly $300 million in the first month of the NFL year, there are more discussions now. Whatever they do, I want them to do it because of what they see on the field, not because of the bank balance. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted 21 hours ago Report Posted 21 hours ago Plenty of teams decline the option, see what happens and then go from there. If they are hell bent on Howell, just move on from Murphy. It’s not like you could get much less fr him than you’ve gotten from Murphy to this point. A couple splash plays a season simply aren’t enough for a first round pick. While he hasn’t had all of the opportunities, he’s had opportunity. Quote
Prophecy Posted 20 hours ago Report Posted 20 hours ago Based on what Murphy showed last season with increased playing time, you have to exercise the 5th year option. Especially when you still have no clue what you have in Shemar Stewart, and Boye Mafe (coming off 2 sacks) is really only guaranteed 2026 money. They can cut Mafe after the season if he is garbage. If they decline the 5th year option and he has a good season, they would have to franchise him at over $30M instead of $14M. BUT... They most likely wont be able to use the Franchise tag on him next year, because they still have not extended DJ Turner nor Dax Hill and they'll probably have to use the Tag on one of them. Just get it done. 1 Quote
COB Posted 17 hours ago Report Posted 17 hours ago A recurring theme popped up in Dehner’s review of Duke’s presser. “Tobin sounded open to restructuring Burrow (different from February response) and said they’d look into it now that the draft was over.” They make statements like this frequently. We can’t do x, y, or z, because we’re busy doing something else. Hire more staff. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted 8 hours ago Report Posted 8 hours ago So you know me and my incessant talk about the linebacking corps... Well, I have seen various articles and suggested trades involving the Bengals and the Dolphins LB Jordyn Brooks. While I would have been happy with a high end linebacker, like Jacob Rodriguez (who went to the Dolphins) the thought of adding a veteran piece to that group is also appealing. While I haven't given much thought to Brooks specifically or a trade, the thought is at least intriguing. Without wasting too much time on something that probably won't happen, the Dolphins were wanting to trade him before the draft in a cap savings move, they drafted two new linebackers this weekend and could really use some help in the middle of their D-line. While I could see a trade happening, Brooks is in the last year of his deal and coming off of an All Pro season and his market value may be too rich. That being said, a trade including Slaton would almost be a wash in cap cost. Would Slaton and a pick next year suffice? I don't know, but like I said, I'm intrigued. Thoughts ?? Would you do it ?? Quote
HoosierCat Posted 7 hours ago Author Report Posted 7 hours ago Sure, why not? Slaton is a likely cap casualty anyhow, and if they have to toss in a sixth or seventh as a sweetener, fine. But since we’re talking about guys both teams will probably release you could probably get it done straight up. Quote
