volcom69 Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 At this point it’s more about showing your willing to do what it takes to start winning and making it right, so your locker room does not blow up anymore then it has. Not sure anybody else can do something with these guys, but maybe it will take someone new for them to start listening. 1 Quote
COB Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 4 minutes ago, HoosierCat said: Whether bringing in a new DC will improve things or not (personally I doubt it) is beside the point. What exists right now is corrosive. It will destroy the entire team if it keeps up. You have Ja’marr and Chase brown calling out the d publicly tonight. You have defensive players laughing at reporters and walking out on them. It just can’t go on like this, no matter how futile a change might be. Don’t worry. Actually, come to think of it, better go ahead and worry. Non-leader of the defense, Trade Me Hendrickson, and our uber players coach, Zac Shula, won’t do jack shit about any of this. And the players know it. The defenders were supposedly laughing when they stiff-armed the journalists looking for interviews. 1 Quote
COB Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 If you can find the over/under for the number of points our defense will give up during the bye week, take the over. Quote
volcom69 Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 I look around the league and see a bunch of no name guys playing defense at levels on these teams. I really think coaching on the bengals is an all time low, they have the worst coaching staff ever! Zac literally hires his buddy, a LB coach to the coach they just fired! I don’t think he ever looked elsewhere never looked at one of the known DC available, and because of that it’s all messed up! 1 Quote

The Brown family has made it clear they simply do not want to do as much as other teams do. They don’t want to do as much financially, they don’t want to relinquish any control, they don’t want to grow the organization. I wonder what happens when for 30 years your competitors modernize and grow, and you stubbornly cling to the status quo? The devil’s chickens have come home to roost. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 3 Report Posted November 3 So, as to have some discussion with my buddies who are Bears fans, I decided to watch the game. Chuck Sizzle returns the opening kick and I was super pumped and then it happened. The defense was utterly ineffective yet again. I literally turned the game off right then and there. I saw the highlights and I guess I missed some great plays on offense and yet another meltdown on defense. Can't say that I really "missed" it though. I mean you should see my toilets. Super shiny and clean. You would think Andre Smith made an appearance, but it was all me. I can see the talk of firing Zac, Golden or anyone else. Someone should be accountable for this mess. Thing is, I just don't care. I have zero faith this organization can manage this or any other situation well. It's really a shame when thinking about the talent this team and other teams from the past have had. I really hate this front office. I mean, really. The leaves will be cleaned from the yard every weekend without concern this year. Well, unless it's raining. You can be wet or you can be cold, but you absolutely cannot be both. Personally, I prefer neither, but the leaves don't fall in June, so here I am. Have a great week everyone. Quote
AMPHAR Posted November 5 Report Posted November 5 Bengals defense competes all off season to what amounts to extensive 7v7 flag football. This is what the offense needs as they value winning football through the air and run so much through the QB. The defense on the other hand is horrible in pursuit. Horrible at pad level. Horrible in 3rd and long. Horrible in run gap and down the line fundamental mistakes when they go against an independent offense designed to beat their scheme's not work on their base line offense for the season. 2 summers in a row. The defense competes with the best offense skill in the league. Doesn't and hasn't translated into winning defensive football. 1 Quote

Doesn't and hasn't translated into winning defensive football. Hell, it hasn't translated into anything resembling an NFL defense, let alone a winning one. That's a great point and something that really is interesting to think about. There's simply no excuse these guys aren't prepared to look at least average. I remember saying that about the Golden hire early on as well. Golden didn't need to build the best defense in the league, just get it to average. The offense should be able to handle the rest and yet here we are. Quote
HoosierCat Posted November 6 Author Report Posted November 6 So book face tells me that some fans are planning a “fire the GM and coaches” protest rally at Paycor Saturday. Awww, that brings back memories. Maybe someone can do a “Mike Brown Step Down” aerial banner, just for old times’ sake. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 Oh no, not that… It will probably have the same outcome as the defensive players only meeting. 1 Quote
Stripes Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 If I was in the area, I would join that protest. It probably won't make a difference, but I don't fault fans for trying. The alternatives are to keep taking it up the pooper or to drop the hobby entirely. 1 Quote

ArmyBengal Posted November 6 Report Posted November 6 I don't fault fans for their irritation. Giving personal time for the equivalent of yelling at the sky for being blue? Nope. I value my time more than that. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted November 6 Author Report Posted November 6 Yeah I don’t blame them either. But they’re about to learn what futility means. Quote

HoosierCat Posted Monday at 08:49 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 08:49 PM Lucky Giants fans... Quote The New York Giants fired coach Brian Daboll on Monday after the team blew another double-digit lead Sunday in Chicago. "The past few seasons have been nothing short of disappointing, and we have not met our expectations for this franchise," Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch said Monday in a joint statement. "We understand the frustrations of our fans, and we will work to deliver a significantly improved product." Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the Giants' interim coach. Kafka was a finalist for multiple head coaching jobs over the past two years. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/46918387/brian-daboll-giants-coach-bears-loss Quote

HoosierCat Posted Tuesday at 04:56 PM Author Report Posted Tuesday at 04:56 PM A look at Daboll’s downfall. Caught my eye as so much sounds familiar. https://substack.com/home/post/p-178600772 For example: Quote Daboll’s fall from Coach of the Year to unemployment is the byproduct of a toxic culture colliding with a talent-starved depth chart, inside an organization that hasn’t figured out how to build a modern winner in 15 years. Toxic culture? Getting close. Talent starved depth chart? Certainly on D. Lost FO? Oh yeah. Quote Fans have become so miffed, so enraged, so apathetic that some have paid small fortunes to fly planes above MetLife Stadium calling for Daboll’s firing, while so many others sold their tickets to so many San Francisco 49ers fans that first-round rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart told reporters last week that he felt like he was playing a road game, in East Rutherford. That tracks too. Quote On top of whatever simmering conflicts have been brewing just beneath or had bubbled over onto the surface in recent years, Daboll's repeatedly calling running plays late in games for Dart, exposing the young quarterback to additional hits while failing to convince him to slide or otherwise protect himself in the pocket, proved to be Daboll’s ultimate downfall. Since inserting Dart into the lineup for Russell Wilson, Daboll appeared to be viewing and treating the upstart quarterback as his own personal job security ticket rather than the most vital piece of the Giants’ rebuild. QB who won’t listen to literally save his life (or near enough) and who the coach needs to carry him? Yah we got that too. It’s not one to one, we don’t have all the coaching and sideline drama, but the big difference of course is ownership. Mara said enough. Mikey said meh. As for what comes next… Quote Dart now makes the Giants one of the more attractive coaching vacancies this hiring cycle, but Mara, Schoen, and New York will need to find a coach who fits some very specific criteria if this heritage franchise is going to have any chance at returning from floundering cellar-dweller to respectability. After the chaos of the past three seasons, New York’s next leader may spend more time repairing scars than drawing up plays. He’ll also need to either mask the organization’s systemic flaws, or be the kind of culture-driver capable of overcoming them. The Giants haven’t had a coach like that since Tom Coughlin walked off the podium, stage right, back in 2016. Yeah, we need that too. And I think we all know what the chances are that we get it. AMPHAR Posted Tuesday at 07:29 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 07:29 PM Expectations are a bitch. In all the hirings and firings of Head Coaches/General Managers, I have yet to see BigDawg101 from Browns Watercooler message board hired. Or Mo from 1530 AM hired. Or Whoever. Coaches fired/hired are mostly victims of a parity league and fall victim of the cyclical nature of success/failure in the NFL especially once expectations are risen. Then there is a deep pool of qualified replacements. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted Tuesday at 10:43 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 10:43 PM Well my expectations for the defense were minimal. Don’t be the worst defense in the league and get them near middle of the pack and let the offense do the rest. Somehow, against all odds, they are worse this year than last. My expectations included not being as bad as last year. Should not have been that challenging, but here we are. Big bag of suck Quote
