can't say this is a surprise. The NFL need to legitimise the penalty call and so by cranking in a suspension it gives the penalty creedence.

I can accept Burfict's suspension on the basis of his pattern of fines for unnecessary hits. IMO he gets singled out based on his reputation coming out of college, but we knew that when we signed him, so... like I said, I can accept it.

What I can't accept is seeing Pittsburgh walk away from that game smelling like roses. Standard fines will mean nothing as long as they're advancing to the next round of the playoffs. Just getting the additional game check will cover whatever fines from the wildcard game many times over.

Agree with everything

When Tomlin stepped onto the sideline as Jacoby returned the punt drew what kind of fine/suspension? $100,000. No integrity, no character. just goons.

This article sums up how I feel.

http://boston.cbslocal.com/2016/01/12/mike-from-woburn-what-else-will-nfl-let-mike-tomlin-steelers-coaching-staff-get-away-with/

Lets see how hot the NFL lets the water get in the Denver game, lest it boils over and they have to let Pittt make another showing of "how not to act"

Until I see what fines/actions are announced for Shazier, Munchak, Porter, I will remain unimpressed with the NFL's handling of the Steelers, and consider it preferential treatment.

Here's my thing. If we are going to accept the precedent that players who commit a bunch of "dirty" penalties like unnecessary roughness, personal fouls, unsportsmanlike conduct, etc. then where are the three-game suspension for:

Jalel Addae (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (2), Unnecessary Roughness (2))

Quinton Patton (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (2), Running Into the Kicker (1), Unnecessary Roughness (1))

Peko (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (2), Unnecessary Roughness (1))

Preston Brown (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (1), Personal Foul (1), Face Mask (15 Yards) (1), Unnecessary Roughness (1))

Jurrell Casey (Unsportsmanlike Conduct (1), Personal Foul (1), Roughing the Passer(1))

William Gholston (Unnecessary Roughness (4), Roughing the Passer (1), Face Mask (15 Yards) (1))

Or Odell Beckham or Pacman or TJ Ward. Look for yourself.

These guys are all comparable to Burfict in terms of "dirty" penalties. If they are going to punish "dirty" players with suspensions, fine, but let's apply this equally, not just to the guy named Burfict.

Yea that article from that Boston writer is encouraging.  It's just nice to hear that someone else is paying attention to the Steelers and their ridiculous antics.

Mitchell really takes the cake.  Pretty much calls his shot on our tight end.  Also gets on Twitter and threatens to shoot someone.  Then as promised goes helmet to helmet and knocks our tight end out.  No suspension.

As that Boston writer points out, fines don't work.

3 games seems pretty harsh.  Suh is the most comparable player with a similar history, and has yet to serve a suspension (had a one-gamer overturned last year, unless I'm forgetting a previous one).

Since no one at PBS is holding Marvin or his staff accountable for anything it seems, looks like the NFL will.

Oh - they may want to draft a LB on day one now, regardless.  I don't think you can count on Burfict to lead your defense over the course of any given year anymore, at least not right now.

This has nothing to do with accountability. This is about PR. The league could care less about hits like the one Burfict delivered, as long as he doesn't deliver them in a postseason prime time game with millions of casual fans watching and endanger the bullcrap "we care about player safety" narrative they worked so hard to build. Now they have to rush out an arbitrary suspension to demonstrate their "concern." My bet is it will get reduced to one game tops but they can claim a PR win. Bully for Roger.

Yea I love how the NFL says this is not just about the other night. That's bullshit if Burfict didn't make that hit on Brown, and the bengals won the game, nobody would be talking about Burfict or he would not be getting suspended. Once again I'm saying the NFL is a joke, they just make shit up as they go!

Ugh what a mess.     I believe Burfict is a dirty player but also a player that is DYOP level.    I have no idea if his suspension is warranted or fair because this standard is constantly changing.

The coverage is absolutely annoying.    Steelers simply have more blind homer fans that have more "fan boy" media types pandering to those viewpoints.  Their former players show way more love towards the franchise vs. the Bengals.  Cincinnati media is considerably more negative and lives on the side of being "fair" .

Pitt players have been crying to the media about dirty hits.    What bullshit.

Anybody can watch that game film and see the dirty play was on both sides.

All we need isCollinsworth to denounce his former team as dirty, while we all know he loved Steeler foooootball when they blatantly broke a punters jaw.

Fuck them.    The 3 game suspension is just rest for Burfict to wreck more havoc in those remaining 13 weeks and playoffs.

I say again: embrace it. Bengals are the new Raiders coming to cripple you all on sundays.

I think they should embrace it and at the same time start working the media.

If I were a local Bengal scribe, I'd take that above tweet and attach the photo DeCastro's hands in Gilberry's face mask.

Too bad Hobson's too busy trying to figure out how to restate the cap room.

It's worth a shot -- the Steelers are definitely getting a leg upon working the refs today -- but I suspect it won't matter in the end because the Steelers are media darlings.

They can't stop talking about Burfict.

At one point in the second half of the wild card game we gave them, their offense was on the field without Ben, Leveon Bell, and Antinio Brown.  Alll 3 had been injured by Burfict.

They can't stop talking about him because they can't stop thinking about him. They can't stop thinking about him because he's dangerous.  I think the Bengals win both games against Pittsburgh in '16.

They talk about Burfict a bit like we once talked about James Harrison or Casino Ambush (the player, not the BZ member)

Karma is a bitch

Said it before, they are no longer intimidated by Pittsburgh and have become the intimidaters!  Big problem now is, Pitt is on to them, and now have reverted to pushing their buttons and getting them to engage in the after whistle penalties and fights.  If they can't play intimidating but poised, and walk away from the button pushing, they sit home this year and do a none and done instead of a one and done!  That's how the Ravens are successful against Pittsburgh now.  They intimidate Pitt, but stay poised!

Funny how the Ravens seem to own Pitt, Pitt owns the Bengals, and, of late, the Bengals seem to own the Ravens?????

I think the Bengals have been the more physical team over the Steelers for a while.   I think it's been slow on a national stage to be recognized because the Steelers have so many fan boys in the media that everyone assumes they have Mean Joe Green and Co other there all the time.

However,  I think our guys definitely have little brother syndrome going on with the Steelers.

Steelers are definitely crying in the media a lot lately.

Yah.It is weird, though. I remember how Bengals fans (and sometimes players) would make the same comments about Porter or Harrison or Whines Hard, and the response was always, that's the Pitt way, suck it up and quit crying, crybaby.

Put the shoe on the other foot and suddenly the Steelers are out there wah wah wahing to the press and God-El is handing out suspensions of Bengals players. F**k him and Pitt.
