We signed Newman and Pacman if we take a corner in the 1st I just feel either Dre is heading to Bust Status or Their preparing for a Leon Hall Departure to early....They wanna help our Secondary find us a non Crap Strong Safety.

Newman and Pacman are a combined 65 years old and prone to injury. Kirkpatrick is still a mystery. Hall is the only guy we can count on, and their base D last year was the nickel. I have no problem with a corner. But safety would be fine as well.

We have pretty solid Nickel corners,Seems a bit wasteful of the pick "shrug",Unless their worried about Kirkpatrick then it makes more since it would just suck for us.

My favorite part of the yearly draft meltdowns is when folks pre-hate on picks.

By "pre-hate" - do you mean not wanting prospect x because prospect x has one or more known/established issues which may affect his ability to perform on the football field or (worse still) to make it onto the field at all?

Yes. Pre-hate means when you and others stake out guys you are positive you don't f**king want and then scream like stuck pigs if they get picked. Fun!

Nice job front office. I hate this effin' pick. Hate it! This dude could have been had with a 3rd round pick. They reached. Again. Epic f**king fail by the Bengals so-called scouting department. Groundhog Day once again for us poor Bengals fans. Go kill yourself Mike Brown.

Sure there are guys I don't want and will be upset with.

Same as there are guys people do want and will be happy with.

Nature of the beast. Nothing new about it in the least.

Some like the draft process and some don't.

In regards to the board, it's all part of the conversation.

Someone likes Eifert, I can give my reasons why I would think the pick to be stupid.

I would love some Rambo and TJ hates his off field issues.

Again, nature of the beast on the forum.

And TJ, I have concerns with Rambo's off field stuff as well and why I would want him in the 3rd.

I would actually be good seeing them take their SS like Cyprien or Elam and still take Rambo if he's there later.

Nelson won't be around forever and God knows pushing one of the many "late round talents" at safety off the roster won't hurt.

Hypothetical - if you, in your carefully considered opinion, believe prospect x will never see the field because of (let's say) a murder charge - would you still want the Bengals to pick said prospect, invest millions of cap dollars in him, and tie up a roster spot?

I would hope your answer would be no.

I don't see this as hate.

I don't hate any of these people.

I simply evaluate (as best I can in my limited amateur fashion, same as anyone here) a prospect's ability to contribute to this team's success, and the ones that I see as not contributing or contributing negatively (example: paid a big bonus and but can't play due to being in jail) are ones I don't want to see the team pick.

I don't understand how you see this as hate, anymore than a shop owner who chooses not to carry a product that he doesn't think will sell is not hating the product, he simply has made a decision to use his shelf space for a different product

This starts to seem a tad personal on me

Well, *shrug* I expect both of you will be here at times during this draft, just as you have been in the past, and perhaps I have grown a little older and a little more mellow

Just as we will see how the picks will fall, we will see if my reactions are a bit more, uh, calm this year compared to past years

On a semi-related note: I recall quite well being very displeased (putting it mildly) with the pick of Boom Herron last year; but as you both know, I am a special teams maven, and he really showed up on special teams late in the year -- so he is now among my favorite current Bengals

Not sure he makes the roster this year if Scott stays healthy. He has almost no value as a RB unfortunately, and has other guys ahead of him who can do more than just play good ST's. I'd almost prefer to see what he could do on ST's for a full year, if they ever cut Leonard loose (who's providing smaller returns each season).

Just to throw a new name into the mix ...

Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee

2013 NFL Combine Results

6'4 - 200 lbs.

40-Yard Dash 4.44

Vertical jump 39.5

Broad jump 136

20-yard shuttle 4.33

"Hunter is the ideal size for a wide receiver at 6' 4". He has the ability to easily climb the ladder (he had the highest vertical jump numbers at the combine) and can catch difficult passes in the air."

"Justin Hunter is looking like the most athletically gifted prospect at his position of the 2013 NFL Draft class.

A lean athlete with long arms and reliable hands, he is a former track specialist who still has plenty of upside to blossom into an elite NFL player.

Hunter has elite ball skills.

A natural leaper who can catch the ball away from his body and does not wait for the ball to come to him.

Can explode off the line and glides downfield."

I would love to see him lined up as a bookend on the other side of Green ...

"There are few receivers at the college football ranks who bring what Justin Hunter does to the table.

With size and speed comparable to some NFL greats, Hunter has an extremely high ceiling."

"He can stretch the field with good straight line speed. Very well-built with long arms and big hands. Will need to add bulk to his frame, specifically his lower body. Experience is key and should develop nicely in his first few years in the league. Hunter can catch any pass in his area and has good elusiveness to extend the play after the catch."

I would like him a whole lot as a 2nd round pick and yea maybe even as the 1st round pick ...

Not in the least bit personal. Just a sort of generalization of a reaction that, at some point, we've all had to a draft pick.

I'll say this about Boom Herron: He strangely gets the job done. I expect he'll make the team again and contribute again. He was that way at Ohio State, nothing spectacular or eye-catching, but at the end of the game you would realize how effective he'd been.

I'm glad you have mellowed TJ. Because I have PTSD from these boards and certain reactions to picks over the years.

From where I sit, in the last four years or so, the Bengals have pretty much killed the draft (in a good way). Whatever system is in place to evaluate players and their fit in what the Bengals want to do at the moment seems to be pretty damn good. So I am pretty relaxed heading into the process this year. Add in how much uncertainty about what will be available when the Bengals pick and its hard for me to get pre-worked up about any of the picks, good or bad.

That said, I would certainly prefer they not pick Teo. If they do, I will have to have some pretty extreme skepticism on my part overcome as things unfold.

Peter King saying bengals love Lacy, and I would be ok with him in the second, but don't ruin my night by picking him first overall! I actually like Gio Bernard more, and he will be there in the second as well.

So, here in balt, out of nowhere, Lapham was on one of the local shows yesterday, and they did 15 minutes of draft talk from bengals perspective. Fun for me, anyway.

In any event, lacy's name came up, and Lapham raised a ton of flags over lacy's health history. Turf toe that supposedly hasn't healed and a shoulder issue.

Maybe lap is smoke-screening genuine interest on bengals' behalf . Dunno.

Lapham is all about the Ifert tight end guy, that's for sure. Loves that guy.

If mike brown is in the draft room its lacy you know how he loves his first round backs.

I truely think vaccaro will be gone by 21 i would be happy with cypren can also see plenty of other bpa's its totaly up in the air what could happen and thats what makes this draft exciting.

Justin Hunter is certainly a player I would like if they were to trade down in the draft.

Big, fast, hands, and good body control. Yeah, I wouldn't mind that in the least.

For what it's worth COB, I loved the "Effin hate" post.

Again, there are always going to be picks we love and hate.

I have faith in what the Bengals have done with the draft lately, so I will try to temper things.

Teo would send me screaming into the woods.

One risk I wouldn't mind seeing them take, Tyrann Matheiu. 100% baller. Dude just makes plays. His weed issues need to be in the past though, and hopefully the Bengals have done some spy vs spy stuff in that regard.

Since this is a first round pick thread I should say I don't want him in the first. Second, maybe if they're convinced he's not a lost cause to drugs. 'Teo is a lost cause to slowness. Forget him.

Posted

No to Teo. No way.

You guys thought Dhani was slow... Teo is that slow.

I would like to see them snap on Vaccaro. If he's gone, then take the best WR on the board left, probably Cordarelle Patterson.
