  1. So while there might be a handful of players you like in the later rounds, who's THAT player for you. That "Must Have" the Bengals should target that is likely to make an impact early on in their career ?? I'm thinking 5th-7th rounds... Devin Duvernay, WR, Texas- Obviously we've been talking about him here for a while, but I love what he brings. Hope he's there later. Colby Parkinson, TE, Stanford- A big red-zone target for Burrow to develop with. I really am not sold on any of our TE's. Trey Adams, OT, Washington- Oft-injured, but once thought to be a top end OT prospect. Worth the risk in the later rounds for sure. The player I want more than most though is: Justin Strnad, LB, Wake Forest While Wake Forest isn't a football powerhouse, Strnad is 6'3, 235 and is considered to be prototypical in coverage. He was the captain of the Wake Forest defense (see leader) but coming off a torn biceps in October of last season. We lost some special teams players and he has also led his team in ST tackles as well. I really like his game and think he could be a starter in the near future. Here's a write up: "He's built like a tall, puffed-up safety, but he also runs like one with the range to find play after play when he's kept clean. Strnad could have issues against downhill running attacks due to a lack of size and hand usage. He's an explosive athlete and aggressive striker, but big backs could wear him down on the pro level. He has the twitch and burst to roam from sideline to sideline and should play faster and more efficiently as his recognition improves. He's an ascending playmaker whose athleticism, third-down talent and special-teams ability could make him a middle-round selection as a 4-3 WILL or 3-4 ILB if his medicals check out."
  2. 4 year deal !!! Good job Bengals... https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/07/23/bengals-extend-tyler-boyd/
  3. Once upon a time, the Reds were decent enough that I made threads for each of their series. Well, that hasn't happened in a while. With that, I give you the 2019 Cincinnati Reds thread !!! Today is opening day and our beloved Redlegs kick off the season with the Pirates in town. I don't know how the season is going to end, but the Reds appear to be an improved team from last year. I'm interested to see if the pitching upgrades will be enough and I can't wait to see Puig crushing the ball in GABP !!! Hoping for a fun season and getting down to the ballpark again soon !!!
  4. There hasn’t been a topic in this forum in over a year, but I have to say that I am very excited to see the Cincinnati club playing pro soccer. They start the season tomorrow night against Seattle. While expect many growing pains with the team, I’m still pumped for pro soccer. I have played since I was 4 and even played on some Army teams along my time in service. Soccer bores some, but it is a passion of mine. FC CINCINNATI !!!!
  5. I will move this out after today, but I wanted to wish all my fellow Veterans here on the board a very Happy Veteran’s Day !!! Maybe our beloved Bengals will find some extra motivation and bring home the win today. However, take just a simple moment while we are watching the game or going through your day to remember there are still troops deployed and fighting. Wishing them all a safe return !!! A big Hooah from this retired Army Veteran !!!
  6. Since there isn't much talk here about college football, I thought maybe lumping it all together when there is something to mention would be helpful.... That being said and being a die hard Buckeyes fan, while I am happy to see them ranked at #3, I don't think their defense is going to keep them there. While they don't have anything super tough in front of them until the Michigan game, I'm leery about how they matchup with some of the other top 5 teams. I think it's cool to see Texas back in the mix, which hasn't happened in quite some time as well. Tom Herman (from Cincinnati) that was the Buckeyes OC for a while was a great hire for that program. For those who watch the polls, the Cincinnati Bearcats also slid in at #25 as well. Nice to see a local team making some noise. Luke Fickell (Buckeyes ties) has the Bearcats at 6-0 right now !!! While I am a Xavier fan, I still root for the local teams to do well.
  7. Well, this is the last week before the playoffs start. The Chilis and the Krusherz have a playoff spot locked up. While the Winners haven't locked a spot up technically, they aren't dropping out of the top 4. More than likely, the last spot will be occupied by either the Tatas or the Ladybugs, with the Tatas holding a slight lead on points. Should both the Tatas and Ladybugs lose and have low scoring games, it would open the door just a crack. My Weasels and my son's Punishers are waiting to take advantage. Hell, even the Hellmutts aren't mathematically eliminated at this point. This feels like the college football playoffs. 4 teams are pretty much set, but there are others who feel they have a shot. Good luck to everyone this week !!!
  8. So I went down to catch the show last night at PBS. Anyone else go ?? While I loved the 3+ hour show and the set list they performed, there were many that thought it sucked and I heard many people saying they thought Axl was lip syncing. Talk about crazy, tickets ahead of the show were going for like $60.00 to start and anything lower was pretty pricey. Without any intention of going to the show initially, my wife found groupon tickets for $25.00, when we got to our upper level seats, they traded all of our seats in the upper deck for lower level gems. It was hot as balls last night, but overall I came away impressed with the show. Now I just need to remember that I'm not in my 20's anymore and that coming in after 1am, while needing to get up at 5am is painful !!! I see a nap after work and an early night getting into bed. Man getting older sucks !!!
  9. It looks like there are some interesting matchups this week. Hell, even Billy is "projected" to win this weekend !!!
  10. I know he's here in spirit, so I will simply push out the Happy Birthday wishes for him. I saw in another thread that he has just a shade over two months until we should see him back around here. Happy Birthday Billy !!!
  11. So the Reds get another win tonight with Votto hitting two homeruns and great team play. Interesting note: The Reds are the first team in major league history to win the first 4 games of the season in their last at bat.
  12. I've mentioned many times that I believe they could go many different ways in each of the rounds and this year more than most, it's a huge guess. That being said, I didn't want it to go by and not at least make an attempt. I repeat that I feel they could go in MANY different directions. Oh, I also felt there may be a need at OLB, so if someone would prefer a 5th round OLB instead of a center, cool... 1st Round: Kyle Fuller, CB, Virginia Tech I just think they are going CB one way or another here and if both Gilbert and Dennard are gone and I had to pick, I would pick Fuller here. Verrett is too small and I could really see him falling to be quite honest. Ghee is gone, Newman is up for FA next season, Jones is getting up there, Hall is coming back from his 2nd major injury, and Kirkpatrick hasn't assumed a starter's role to this point. If for some reason they don't go CB in the first, the OG out of UCLA Sua'Filo would be a nice 2nd option for me. 2nd Round: David Yankey, OG, Stanford A versatile O-lineman that has gotten time at LT as well as LG. I am guessing that Pollack earns the starting center spot and that leaves a hole at LG with Boling coming off a season ending injury and not thought to be ready. Not only that, but Boling is a free agent next year as well. I simply think this is a pick that could come in and immediately start, which would be huge for the offense and Dalton. If they went OG in the first, my choice here would be a CB. 3rd Round: Billy Turner, OT, North Dakota State Has anyone watched this kid play ?? Good Lord, he's someone to watch for and could go higher than the 3rd. A great pick to have groom behind Whit without the thought of needing him to start right away. Since we lost both AC and Fragel, I think they really have to target a solid backup within the first few rounds. 4th Round: Jaylen Watkins, CB, Florida Like I mentioned before, there are many questions about the CB spot and they sure aren't getting any younger. Watkins has some size and speed to him and has also played some safety as well. Could certainly be a good teams guy while waiting for his opportunity. 5th Round: Bryan Stork, OC, Florida State That's right TJ, you get an o-lineman at each position in this draft. Beers are on me !!! With Cook being shown the door, I think this pick is certainly more feasible. It's another nice pick for depth that has the potential to turn into a starting center. Has shown versatility at Florida State as well, but center is his natural spot. I guess this really depends on how they view Robinson and what they do with Pollack. Obviously, they may feel there's no need to draft a center, but I like it. 6th Round: Dri Archer, RB/WR, Kent State Think the speed replacement for Hawkins who is built along the same lines and has crazy speed and quickness. A poor man's Tavon Austin ?? Either way around, there are many who question what we actually have after our top 3 WR's and I wouldn't mind adding his speed in the loss of Hawkins. 6th Round: Tom Savage, QB, Pittsburgh Here's the developmental QB I think they need to go get. Savage is big, has some movement to him and has a big arm as well. When I watch him play, I think of Ben Roethlisberger in need of refinement. He can get a little sloppy at times, but like I said, that's where the term "developmental" comes into play. No one would be asking him to start and he could learn from both Dalton and Campbell. Savage might actually go a little higher than this, but I would love this comp pick in the 6th round. 7th Round: Jake Murphy, TE, Utah I've heard nothing about Smith coming back at this point and Gresham is a free agent after this season. Murphy is a big kid with ability as a blocker and pass catcher. If not him, I could see another local TE prospect in UC's Blake Annen. Either way around, I see a TE in this draft and could see it as early as the 5th round (since i'm guessing) if things fell differently. 7th Round: Aaron Lynch, DE, South Florida With a lot of reports lately of this kid being an absolute mess off the field, I can see him continuing to fall. This could be our next Burfict if someone was there to put his head on straight and get the lightbulb to come on. Some might say we need a DE early, but I really don't see it that way. Geathers will be back healthy, Gilberry put up 7.5 sacks last season, and Hunt has a season under his belt. That and none of them will be free agents in the coming season either.
