Caught the last 3-4 minutes of this glorious game. With the egg-laying of the rest of the South today everything's coming up Bengals

Happy to give your guys a little nudge in the AFCS.

I attended the game, sat about 40 yard line.  My impressions:

51 for them is on a Lawrence Taylor level.  We ran away from him.  He was a factor maybe every play he was in the game.

We match that with Dexter.  Different position but similar effect.  We can suddenly stop the run, and the pocket was usually getting pushed into CJ’s face.

Our kicker is a huge advantage especially in that indoor environment.

Bengals defense is for real.  Our offense is still our offense, OBJ is the possible upgrade position, just have to find the NFL Starting Left Tackle Tree and pick one off it.

Reliant Stadium is a great place to watch a game.  And the crowd was way different than an afc north crowd, in a good way, and that’s an understatement.

Week 1: I wear my black Karras.

The offensive line allows an NFL low in pressure that week.

Week 2: I wear my white Chase.

Ja’Marr scores twice including one of his best catches ever.

For week 3, I have an orange Burrow or a black Higgins. What’s it going to be?

Plenty still to work on but props to the d, allowing just 6 to Houston is huge. National media might finally notice.

Now fix the penalties.

An NFL player should NEVER line up in the neutral zone!!!  You learn that kind of Football 101 in high school!!!!!

Houston has a really good dline and the oline took some lumps today, especially Orlando. They need to be quicker to shift TE help to his side when he struggles. Mims can handle it, dude is playing at a pro bowl level.

Burrow made the couple big plays needed and then grinded out a big win on the road vs a great defense. That's championship football

After some time to think on it.....OBJ was blocking (or trying to block) either a potential DPOY (Anderson) or All Pro (Hunter) on every snap

Yeah, when this happens.....realize it, accept it, and give him some TE help.

Im not saying hes irreplaceable.....i am saying many OLTs have looked bad against these two talented pass rushers

Risner and Fairchild also had a bad day, combining for something like 9 pressures and 3 sacks. Houston’s defense wasn’t getting talked up all off-season as a candidate for best in the nfl for nothing.

True, true

I still think at 0 and 2 now they will eventually win the afc south

Army, the thrill of winning aside, how was the experience down there?  How is junior holding up after the loss?

Boy, what a weekend we had.
Got down there late Friday, spent all day Saturday watching college ball and then hit up the game Sunday.
Had to get ArmyBengal Jr. back for Monday classes so we got back in around midnight Sunday night.
Not bad, but I drove back to Cincy and got home around 2am.  Ugh...

We have been to Houston for many games and I love the stadium and the atmosphere there.
Their fans are really into the games, but are also really welcoming (for the most part) of opposing fans.
It's always a good time and one of my favorite places to catch an NFL game.

There were two game moments that changed everything, which probably couldn't be seen on TV.
1.  The 4th and two inch stop by Dexter Lawrence-  It sucked every bit of energy right out of the stadium.
I cannot recall a defensive play in recent memory that had that much of an impact.  Dexter showed up.

2.  The TD catch by Ja'Marr-  People were just quiet, looking at the screen like, "He didn't catch that did he"?
It was at that point, you could feel an unease in the crowd about how the day was going to end up.

The Texans defense is no joke and they are 0-2 because they have faced two elite offenses who simply wanted it more.  That's not going to happen more often than not and still think the Texans win the AFC South.  I am still left to wonder if there would have been a different outcome had they had the 3 starters playing that were out for the game.  Maybe not, but it was noticed by the Houston fan base for sure.

Food, Friday night it was Whataburger and then all day Saturday was BBQ from my buddy's grill.

Bottomline for me is, the Bengals are 2-0 heading into division play.
Even without a few of their starters, that's still a really strong defense.
Hence the 10 QB hits and 5 sacks on Burrow.

To all those calling for some TE help for OBJ...  Yes, that please.
Matter of fact, I wouldn't mind seeing more two TE sets if it continues to be a problem.
Recognize the issue and devise a plan to compensate.

Additionally, we do in fact have a pretty solid defense.
Are there things to improve?  Sure, but I love what I am seeing to this point.

That's two weeks in a row without the opposition rushing for 100 yards.
The Texans weren't that far behind and even when they were, that's the defense holding it down.
Two weeks in a row without allowing a passing TD as well.  Won't complain about that at all.

Although it's two weeks in a row I want to see better tackling, getting the win is what matters.
I think people forget how much fun it is to watch football when you have a good defense.
Here's to hoping we continue to see more of that this coming weekend.

Dude, they held David Montgomery and Woody Marks to 18 combined yards on 14 attempts. Not 180… 18. That’s unheard of. The leading rusher for the Texans was Stoud and he only managed 29 yards running for his life.

That’s a huge reason the Texans were playing from behind to begin with. Also, even with the two teams they faced playing from behind in both games, they haven’t given up a passing TD.

There is definitely something to it.

You have to love how you can see his presence impacting others play as well.

TJ Slaton has looked solid in the couple games.
Kris Jenkins has been getting after it.
Cashius Howell has played well as a rookie to this point.
Even Cedric Johnson has two sacks on the season.
Shemar got in on the action with a sack too.

Speaking of Johnson, he's getting a lot of mentions after this game and he's really interesting to me.
Is it because he's simply taken time to develop?  Is it the presence of better players around him?
Is it dumb luck and an anomaly?  I also lost track that's he's only 24, but it feels like he's been here forever.

Whatever it is, it's good to have the feeling that our defensive end depth is better than I thought.

Yup. Stripehype had a good write-up on how Dex and Allen are letting Golden stop the run without stacking the box, which is a Holy Grail of top defenses.

Great article.  This looks familiar to me...

The two Texans running backs, Woody Marks and David Montgomery, combined for just 18 yards on 14 combined carries. Quarterback C.J. Stroud added an extra 29 yards to that rushing total after running for his life all game.

Me a day earlier:

Lol, great minds and all...

It’s funny tho, Dex is very much the opposite of Geno in that Atkins was famously reticent while, as the mic’d up video shows, Dex is an Ocho Cinco-level trash/talker. Normally I find that all kind of cringe, but as long as his play can cash the checks his mouth is writing, I’m good.

Geno was the silent assassin as they called him.  Never heard much from him, just went about destroying people quietly. Dexter on the other hand is like a schizophrenic.  One way off the field and another way on it.
I like the way he is on it, because you can also see how it motivates others around him.  He's chirping at the opposition and in leadership mode with his players.

Him constantly calling Keylon Rutledge soft his hilarious to me.  He says that and then mops up.  That's like taking his soul on the field and it has a dual effect in that it motivates his guys while demoralizing the opposition.  For awareness Rutledge is 6'4, 320 pounds.

It's really a thing of beauty.  When people talk about they want to see a defense that is the bully, THIS is what they were talking about.  We actually have that guy and you see the impact.  This is fun.

Dexter is literally the polar opposite of what the Giants fans were complaining about.
Maybe they didn't know how to use him.  Maybe they didn't understand his impact.
It's like since he wasn't showing up in the stats, he's not the player we thought he was.

Look at the Tampa Bay game.  Dude literally didn't have anything register on the stats side of things.
However, to anyone watching, he changed the dynamic of what the offense could do.

That and he's making players around him better.
