  • HoosierCat changed the title to Round 4 (140): Colbie Young, WR, Georgia

Z…

Young’s athletic traits, play strength and ball skills stand out, but missed games have limited his production. Teams will need to examine his 2024 arrest and suspension. On tape, he uses his size, muscle and catch radius to beat cornerbacks in tight quarters and above the rim. His speed and separation are average, so he’ll likely see a higher number of contested battles. His route-running needs work, but he’s a nightmare for cornerbacks to bring down after the catch. Young has talent to work with and -- provided teams are comfortable after their character evaluation -- has a chance to be more productive in the pros.

Strengths

Has prototypical size with large hands.

Size and strength to outmuscle cornerbacks for space.

Leaping and extension creates a tall high-point ceiling.

Flashes catch instincts that are missing with some prospects.

Consistent awareness of the boundary with his feet.

Tough to bring down after the catch.

Took gunner reps over the last two seasons.

Weaknesses

Quality press tends to stick and travel with him downfield.

Can be a step slow to adjust and capture catch space.

Average short-area movements and top-end speed.

Fails to maintain speed and gain ground out of turns.

Teams will need to dig into his off-field background.

Missed 15 games over the past two seasons to either suspension or injury.

So not a slot guy but a backup WR on the outside vying for what the WR 5 or 6 spot?  Not a backup o-line guy that could push for snaps and had potential starter chances?

Fucking hate this team so much.

Theoretically, he has the Tee Higgins frame and similar strengths. It's nice to have an appropriate backup in that role, then.

I hate his brain though. I don't know how you take the chance on a dumbass in the wake of Burton's implosions (and Chris Henry before him). Hopefully he's figured it out.
