gregcook69 Posted Thursday at 02:20 PM Report Posted Thursday at 02:20 PM Let’s see if I have all the facts. Last year this franchise lost 5 games where they scored 38+ points, which has never happened in the NFL before. They had the NFL Passing Leader, Sack Leader, and Triple Crown Receiver and didn’t make the playoffs, which has never happened in the NFL before! They IMMEDIATELY fired the DC and few other coaches one day AFTER the season, which THIS franchise has never done before. Hired a well respected top DC from college. They EXTEND 2 top receivers that they already HAD LAST YEAR, but won’t pay the NFL sack leader, a cornerstone of the defense, which was horrible last year, even though they cleaned out the defensive coaching staff. Yet . . . . there are rumblings about them wanting to be more like the Eagles, who have played in 3 SBs and won 2 in the last 7 years, with a lot less talent! The REAL problem is, IMHO, this family franchise will NEVER possess a Lombardi if they haven’t figured things out by now! Quote
gregcook69 Posted Thursday at 02:34 PM Author Report Posted Thursday at 02:34 PM A PS added. I forgot to mention PLUS, they drafted 2 rookies who are HOLDING OUT from signing!! Two guys who got not only a free education but also got paid for it, but have yet to prove their worth as NFL players, but yet are unsigned! ONLY in Cincinnati! LOL Quote
ArmyBengal Posted Thursday at 03:31 PM Report Posted Thursday at 03:31 PM It just doesn't serve my purpose to go into a season that could see them back in the playoffs with negativity at this point. While that may end up being the case, I'd prefer to be in a good mood for as long as possible. While all of the points provided are accurate, of the games they lost, most if not all were really close games. An improvement on the defensive side of things changes that outcome in my opinion. Not paying the NFL sack leader, who is a complete douche bag whiner, is more about his age than anything. The NFL is littered with players who hit a wall and fall off the cliff. Producing longer is an anomaly, not the norm. I still want Trey to be here though, so there's that. The offense wasn't the problem last year, so bringing back Chase and Tee ensures it doesn't become one. No issue there. Considering they don't have a plethora of super stars to pay makes that more palatable. Also, Burrow said he wants them to be more like the Eagles. I've never heard the Brown family make that comment. When considering them making mass changes to contract philosophy reminds me of a story about a snowball and hell. It is rumored Stewart isn't practicing because they really don't guarantee anything before the contract is signed. Conversely, Knight is practicing despite not having his contract signed. I don't blame a player if there's truth to that story. Could the season fall apart and they finish with a losing record? YEP. Could the defense get to middle of the road and they make a deep playoff run? YEP. I'm just happy we have a team that has that type of capability at this point. Not all teams can say that. Wake me when the season starts !! Quote
Stripes Posted Thursday at 07:01 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:01 PM The Eagles definitely do not have "a lot less talent". That is probably the most talented roster in the NFL. Quote

Wake me when the season starts !! Yes, Burrow said he wanted to be like the Eagles, not the Brown family, which only proves the point, and their silence speaks volumes! Of course I’d love to see a Lombardi at Paycor or whatever or wherever the stadium ends up, but I’m also a realist! I’ve watched this franchise from day one at the age of 15. You see the Chiefs do what they do but they had amazing talent, unlike the Eagles, who have had talent but not on the level the Chiefs and Bengals had and still beat the snot out of the Chiefs! You can go on and on about all the other teams and the ups and downs and the obvious fact that only one team wins the SB every year etc etc ad nauseum, but NO other team have lost 5 games scoring 38+ points in a season and NO other team has had the passing leader, the sack leader, and triple crown receiver, and didn’t even make the playoffs!! Still a Reds and Bengals fan to my last breath. But, as a Bengals fan I’ve also learned to expect the worse and hope for the best BECAUSE of who the Brown family is. Quote
AMPHAR Posted Thursday at 07:29 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:29 PM Bengals have a pretty good roster. Bengal Nation has a lot of fans on message boards that love to live in the 90s. Bengals are 6th Vegas odds to win Superbowl currently. 4th to win the AFC. The only thing that means is objective people have placed odds/probability based on the way this team looks on paper and its favorable. Not sure what to tell fans that insist on being "realist", lol. I guess go bet the opposite and be rich. That's the beauty of sports betting you can cash in on all those realist opinions. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted Thursday at 07:57 PM Report Posted Thursday at 07:57 PM Again, I'm good today. Could things be better? Sure, but I'm good. Doesn't serve my purpose to shit all over things to no real end. If that was the case, I wouldn't come here. I just wouldn't do any of it. What would be the point? Quote

HoosierCat Posted Thursday at 08:20 PM Report Posted Thursday at 08:20 PM Eh, we’ll see where we are come September. There have been years when I thought they had a great offseason, and they went on to stink up the league for four months. Others I thought were bad only to have them surprise me. No one knows anything until the games get played. Quote

I’m a blessed man where my wife has come around to football and my oldest is a chip of the old block in loving football, so my bitching isn’t really noticed or at least understood. If I truly had no faith in this team, I wouldn’t come to a forum and discuss my lack of faith. I would just do something else. Quote

I'm down though. Put me in coach. I can hear the chants now. SUPER BOWL, SUPER BOWL !!! Quote

AMPHAR . . . in all seriousness, the statement about marrying into the Brown family was a knock ON the Brown family pocketing the money rather than spending it on the franchise. You might have missed that based on your cursing rant! Quote

There are several non biased sources that have this team among the best for this season. Which I think is what you are trying to debate. Seems like your kinda a mad about it. Quote
