Next 6 games: Saints, Falcons, Browns, Panthers, Steelers, Titans.

Better team on paper than all of them, particularly while it's still Brissett in Cleveland. Really need to lose no more than one of those if this season is going to be special. 4-2 would be gross, but I guess it'd leave the door open.

The run defense is concerning as we move forward without Reader. All of those teams outside the Steelers present some kind of threat on the ground.

If we run the ball like we did tonight, I like our chances.

Burrow again says they can’t go deep because of the way teams are playing them. Every week they see the same defense, taking away the big plays, yet somehow he and Zac can’t figure out how to exploit it. It takes them till the second quarter or even the half to figure out how to move the ball. They really need to figure out ways to move the ball against this defense it’s not going anywhere.

The 2021 Kansas City Chiefs, the very same team we met in the AFC Championship Game:

~ Started 2-3 (and 3-4)

~ Struggled early in the season against constant cover two defensive looks; big plays were hard to come by

~ Had a top-flight quarterback throwing inordinately many interceptions

Does any of this sound familiar?

After that 3-4 start they didn’t lose another game except for the two they lost to the Bengals.

Past the 2nd quarter, I thought the line played its best ball.   Burrow got to the check down quite a few times without being touched and the running game showed signs of life.

I do think the offensive brain trust need to figure out a way to get more points given the level of talent they have.

So you’re telling me we need Andy Reed? Lol

The o-line held up pretty good last night after the first couple of series which is good. The problem is that as talented as an offense they are just so boring and vanilla, and when they try to get all cute and silly, they just mess it up all the way around.

Taylor and Burrow need to get together and look at ways to fix how they are going to beat the cover 2 that teams are showing every week. As of now they still have not figured it out 5 games in. The Ravens hardly run zone, but last night that’s pretty much all they did because they know Burrow can’t win that way. When other teams went away from the zone coverage, Burrow is able to beat teams deep. They need to find a short game, slants, get the ball out quick, try and use Chris Evens in a screen game, do something to force teams out of it. So far they are clueless and have no clue what to do. I don’t know if other teams have this issue or what, but figure it out and that will probably help everything else.

IMO,  the Bengals hit a lot of big plays last year and it probably covered some warts.    Players as much as coaches have to show the ability and willingness to grind out drives by checking down constantly.    Until they do that I'm not sure why any team would give them looks that would put them at risk of big plays.

I think this is a symptom of not having been able to run the ball consistently. Hopefully last night was a step in the right direction.

That'd be nice!

I'm more indicating that even great teams with Hall of Fame coaches have struggled with some of the same things that this team currently faces. Zac Taylor's play calling can rightly be questioned, but I believe the offensive struggles are symptomatic of larger league-wide trends (that we don't see as clearly as we see ourselves). The Chiefs overcame it last year and found their stride. So that's the standard, Zac.

Given the amount of deep zone.   Mixon and that line should never be close to the number 1 yard or less carries they have at this point in the season.   IMO, that is issue No. 1.    The players have to have that mentality they'll grind out 3 yard carries at worse but never going to have that amount 1 yard or less carries.   No. 2 QB can't take sacks.   QB can't pass on free yards and take sacks.

Why as a D-Coordinator would you ever call anything else?  It is unlikely they'll gash in run game and the QB is highly likely to take a sack or force it into coverage.

There are scheme concerns but I don't know enough about it to say what; other than to look at the results and clearly see something ain't right.

Just read Zac answering questions about his play calling.  He said it’s not just me!  Quote:

“Taylor said offensive coordinator Brian Callahan, offensive line coach Frank Pollack, quarterbacks coach Dan Pitcher, receivers coach Troy Walters, and tight ends coach James Casey each have input as to what plays are called in-game.

"We communicate every play," Taylor said. "We talk through it after every single series."

Is Zac seriously saying all those guys are blabbing on the headset while deciding what plays to call?  That doesn’t seem feasible.  Too much input.

Jesus Christ… if that’s truly how it works, that sounds like a complete clusterfuck.

I think its a common deal because you always see a cluster of guys in the booth.   There have been several teams struggle early in this year with the play clock.
