Week 1 2021: Vikings at Bengals Game Thread and Post-game chatter

Just for fun I was looking at the nfl.com stat pages and after week 1:

Mixon is the leading rusher

Burrow is the fifth-highest-rated QB

Chase is 11th in receiving yards

BJ Hill is tied for second in sacks (it's like a six-way tie)

One week doesn't man crap of course but may as well enjoy it while it lasts!

Rome wasn't built in a day. Might as well start out strong statistically and see how it goes from there for a change...

I love this nickname

Let him be called this forever hereafter

Already claimed by Zuerlein I’m afraid.

I’m calling him Legs Benedict, because it’s terrible and hilarious.

Carmen logged some snaps on teams. Carmen was the one picking up McPherson after the game winner.

That fumble/non fumble is an example of the negative side of instant replay.

IMO,  that should be a fumble 100% of the time.   The “down” rule was in place to prevent the clear cut cases in which the ball carrier was down for a a couple seconds then the ball pops out.

It was never intended to be that exact.

There are so many advantages for offenses today.  This is one area they can give the defense an advantage and win back some watchable action.

The ball was coming loose before he was down, you could see that much.  You couldn’t tell where in the process of coming loose it was, but it was definitely in the process.  That decided it, I’m sure.

Bottom line, if you’re in a position where one questionable call can cost you the game, you didn’t play a good game. If the Vikes had managed as much as a FG in the first quarter while our O was diddling itself there wouldn’t have been an OT in the first place. So no tears from me.

Lower level football players from high school and below are held to a higher expectation of ball security.

IMO, That shouldn’t change because the NFL has gobs of money and has allowed TV networks/media to utilize technology so they can try to determine a wiggle of the ball and grazing of turf.

It’s bad for the attending crowd and it’s bad for the TV watchers to sit through a review like that.

It’s not earth shattering to force the best players in the world to hold on to the ball.

Plays like that should be fumble 100% of the time.
