AMPHAR
Slater just appeared in the top 10 ahead of Sewell again in another mock draft not from Daniel Jeremiah. Slater isn't going to be around in a trade down that lands you out of the top 10 is my guess. Interestingly enough that mock had the Bengals taking Pitts over both. That scenario is popping up more often.
Stripes
I tend to side with mem when it comes to the idea of taking Pitts at 5 (absolutely no thanks). I could see the Bengals doing it though regardless of my grumbling if Sewell and Chase are gone and they can't manage to get an offer they like to move down.
AMPHAR
Updated mocks: DJ and Bucky from NFL.com have Sewell to Bengals at 5. Both have Pitts after him at 6 to Eagles. Slater going mid first

I’m more open to it because I think/hope the Bengals will open the draft board via FA. Of course if they don’t then it’s Tackle or bust. If they can address OL viaFA, Pitts helps protection because he’s such a mismatch he comes open quickly and can burn a defense with big plays. Ball out quick with less blitzing. TJJackson
ORT Rob Havenstein, anyone? http://forums.bengalszone.com/topic/26152-the-complete-2020-21-offseason-plan-v2/?do=findComment&comment=469441 to briefly summarize my own personal feelings on this matter: OMFG, G I M M E
membengal
It would be a full win. I want them to offer a 5th and Adeniji for him.
AMPHAR
Players like Havenstein are what they need all over the place. Former second round. Lots of starts. Supposedly had a bad 2019 with the whole OL. Only thing that has me worried is why the price so low?

Because he's a likely cap casualty and any pick for him is better for them than having to cut him. Most teams will wait. A smart team would offer a 5th and see if that works. AMPHAR
Oh, didn't realize it was trade or cut situation. Also if he gets cut they would more than likely have to dump up front money into him to sign him. Trade you just absorb contract go forward which generally means no future cap ramifications if he don't work out. I'd give up Fred but not Adeniji. The Swing tackle always plays going back to the Anthony Collins era. Adeniji gives the appearance of best suited to play both sides over Fred. This also assumes Bobby Hart is cut not just demoted. membengal
Here was Jay Morrison's paragraph on him in his possible cap casualty cuts article on The Athletic earlier this week: Quote Rob Havenstein, right tackle The issue with Havenstein, a 2015 second-round pick, isn’t if the Rams will cut him, but when. Our Jourdan Rodrigue lists him as a possible cap casualty because cutting him would save the cash-strapped organization $5.1 million, but doing so would be a huge gamble because the Rams don’t have anyone else ready to slide in and play right tackle. So the decision on Havenstein, 28, could be put off until they see what they get in the draft, at which point it probably would be too late for the Bengals to pounce. But Zac Taylor was on the Rams staff for two of Havenstein’s six seasons, making him an intriguing option at a position where there is a glaring need. A career right tackle, Havenstein has played at least 15 games in four of his past five seasons. A knee injury in 2019 limited him to nine starts. TJJackson
OMG please please PLEASE make this trade happen I've never been so excited over a possible trade I wish Bobby Hart would be the player we trade but his cap number is pretty much the same as Havenstein's, so that wouldnt make sense for the Rams. So to meet the Rams needs it has to be a draft pick or a low paid backup tackle - Adeniji or the Big Johnson - in the trade or possibly a pick and a player. If a player - almost certainly an OT - is included the drat pick can be a lower one, maybe even our second r7 pick I'd bet a cheap OT needs to be included, as this helps with the obvious "but doing so would be a huge gamble because the Rams don’t have anyone else ready to slide in and play right tackle." that Morrison mentions. Our two backup tackles do have a little (but valuable) real game experience due to all the OL injuries in 2020 and for the most part did alright either way, I dont care. I like Fred and Adeniji but Havenstein is a MUST HAVE please dont blow this opportunity, FO at least get an opening offer in there to pave the way to negotiations
TJJackson
Another possibility, albeit a tad bit older than I'd like, is ORT Rick Wagner of the Packers who was just released today https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/gm-report/packers-release-rick-wagner-help-solve-bengals-issues He could be at minimum a 1 year stopgap for us at ORT, and he could be scooped up today on a waiver claim for a 6M cap hit, which is again less than Bobby "the Matador" Hart PFF on Rick Wagner: https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/rick-wagner/7950 77=High Quality Starter I'd prefer a younger player on a longer deal, but this might well be a decent Plan B a waiver claim would get in him the door for Pollack and our crack medical staff to evaluate him, and if he isnt the guy, we re-release him. zero cost. Wraith
Here is another trade floated around by PFF in this morning's you tube with Mike Renner... Bengals trade #5 to New Orleans. Bengals receive Ryan Ramczyk from the Saints who are desperate to shed cap space and #28. What do you guys think? We would get the Pro Bowl RT we need and still have a late first to secure additional talent.
membengal
WAY too light compensation. That would need another pick or two to drop down that far.
TJJackson
I'm with Mem on this one, Wraith I'd probably want their 2 and 3 this year and maybe their 2 next year also but I'd throw in Adeniji or the Big Johnson so they have an experienced OT Yeah, I'd go full greed mode

TJJackson
so Joe Goodberry I really like this guy, enjoy reading his stuff, usually pretty on target with his NFL takes ...but... then I see he says we should give Cam Robinson 9M a year to play OL for us instead of handing a few million more to Scherff or Thuney https://www.cincyjungle.com/2021/2/20/22290889/nfl-free-agents-2021-jags-news-jaguars-cam-robinson-bengals well, uhm...... PFF Rating for Robinson: 61 https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/cam-robinson/11789 PFF Rating for Bobby "the Matador" Hart: 66 https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/bobby-hart/9659 PFF Rating for Thuney: 74 https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/joe-thuney/10712 PFF Rating for Scherff: 84 https://www.pff.com/nfl/players/brandon-scherff/9438 so hey Joe, I love you man, but sorry......if you're reading this, two things 1] I dont want to play 2M more a year for a guy who is somehow not even as good as Bobby The Matador Hart, who is just gawdawful 2] There's a reason we want and need to pay a little more for Thuney or (preferrably) Scherff or Havenstein in a trade, and I just provided it above
AMPHAR
Cam Robinson would be a new face to an old problem. He’s just a low tier starting option. The only caveat would be IF Pollack had magic beans.
membengal
Quote Jordan Reid Besides length, it’s hard to find glaring holes in Alijah Vera-Tucker’s game. G/OT flexibility is a big plus. The Utah and UCLA games show off his athleticism and hand accuracy/timing. He faced some challenges vs. Oregon, but I enjoyed how he battled and responded on occasions.
membengal
Have I joined in the dunking on Hobson's latest? Yes, yes I have. There's a conga-line of dunking underway...
COB
Hobson better not be a stalking horse for the front office and a strategy that involves a 3rd round o-lineman and a later pick or two. We need quality starters on the o-line, if the Brown family can’t deliver, sell the team to someone who can.
