Worrying about worst case scenarios from every single player on the roster is far less rational that assuming that they will perform in accordance with reasonable expectations.

Yes, it certainly would be, but that isn't what I'm doing. For example, let's take Pacman. Jones hasn't appeared in more than 9 games in a season since 2006. Over his last three seasons he has played in 8, 5 and 9 games. On average for his career, Jones misses about 6 games a year.

So, what's the reasonable expectation? That Jones will be a solid contributor, or that he'll probably spend about half the season on the sideline?

I'm not expecting the worst, I'm just trying to honestly assess what we've got. Brandon Ghee has a history of injury, in large part because of the way he plays. Clements and Newman are aging, and it's hardly unreasonable to expect they'll face age-related issues, such as loss of speed and a greater susceptibility to injury. Leon Hall may get back on the field by opening day, but at what percentage of the old Leon, we don't know.

Hopefully, the guys buck the odds and history and go on to have great years. But they've got some significant obstancles to overcome.

It's not unreasonable to assume that some of them will miss some time at some point this season.

It does seem unreasonable to assume that they will all struggle with health issues at the same time. We don't need to have all 6 guys healthy for all 17 weeks of the season. We only need 3 or 4 of them available for each game.

Even though I don't have much faith in Kirkpatrick... he should be playing by mid-season, so realistically - Cincy only need to be able to manage without the 1st round pick for the first half of the season.

So yes... I think your handwringing over health issues for every single CB the Bengals have for the first 8 weeks of the season is entertaining a worst case scenario.

First, thanks for the correx on Clements. Second, I might agree with you, if we weren't already talking about 4 of our top 6 CBs dealing with injuries before camp even starts. As I said at the beginning of this discussion, I don't like that trend at all.

Edited to add: per Hobs, Pacman appears to be OK to go at this point. Hall probably so. Dre, obviously, is out and Clements still has an abdominal issue. They think he'll be back by the preseason opener.

Some reports say that it's not a broken bone at all... but Osgood-Schlatter disease.

Really odd if true... because this occurs when bones go through growth spurts. Coud this be true with a 22 year old NFL player?

I'm guessing that report is bulls**t.

I dont know man thats what alot of reports are saying.

From Marvin:

"It's really a minor injury. Unfortunately too much has been made of this again. We're going to fix this whole twitter thing here in a second, so I can't wait for that. I'm sick and tired of it. Our guys don't understand how to use it and we're going to fix it."

and

"It's a setback for him because he's going to have to take some time. The good thing is he's here with our people. He's done everything asked of him. It's been a couple of weeks, so he's pretty far along now with it. Things will sort (?) out and he'll be fine. Too much gets made of this stuff and I know there's nothing else important, other than A-Rod getting hurt yesterday."

Sounds like Marvin's frustrated with all the attention this injury is getting. What does he expect? There is no football to talk about as camp hasn't started yet, and our first round pick gets hurt. Yes Marvin, people are going to ask you questions about Dre's health. Grow up and accept that your job has a pr aspect to it.

I think he typically handles the media well.

It sounds to me like there's more going on here. Probably frustrated that players can't keep their mouths shut more than anything.

Sounds like he plans on tightening up a few things around there in the Twitter regard.

That's good, because I personally think it's ridiculous.

Kirkpatrick will take more time, but nothing that appears season ending, so it will be ok.

It was always going to be ok anyway, because he wasn't going to be the starter.

It might just take another few weeks.

Twitter in itself is rediculous. Who cares if you're having a latte? I don't give a s**t.

Using Twitter to follow athletes is pretty stupid. I agree with you on that point. Who cares?

I do however love Twitter. I follow reporters and beat writers... and perhaps most importantly, Josh Kirkendall. Using Twitter in this capacity allows me to get Bengal news, updates, and rumors faster than even PFT can churn them out.

Good ol' Josh. I miss the guy.

Derek...what is kirkendalls twitter handle?

And, i echo derek, twitter is an invaluable source of sports news if used right.

Kirk's handle is @CincyJungle - He primarily posts links to articles as they are posted on the CincyJungle blog... but he'll get more active once the season gets going.
