jjakq27
The guy has no heart. Favre would kill to play. I know the Bengals have problems, but to just quit says he has no passion for the game. I would love to hear Tim Krumre's take on Palmer retiring instead of playing for the Bengals. This season is a wash, but Dalton will bring us back in 2012.He should talk to Mrs. Palmer too. I am still convinced that she laid down the law at the end of the season.I hope they break the impasse soon and send this guy on his way. While I would love to see MB call his bluff, I fear missing an opportunity to cash in on his value while he can.

I would like to see Palmer traded for at least a high draft pick or retire. I don't want to see him back on this team at any cost. ArmyBengal
I'm good with the whole "Saddle up and move on" strategy.Honestly, I would be more excited to see Dalton out there learning for the season then a season of Carson just putting in his time to earn a trade without any real concern for what happens to the team. Call it what you will, but I really am looking forward to seeing a completely new offense installed minus Bratkowski and what the "Ginja Ninja" can do with Green, Simpson, Shipley, Caldwell, and Gresham to throw to. He has weapons.

Would he actually follow thru with it and retire? It would make for some interesting reality TV.I too am ready to move on even though I've always been a big Palmer fan. I've been there and done that too many times with people that don't want to be here, so now it's time to say adios amigo.

jjakq27
CINCINNNATI -- For the first time since the Bengals season finale in Baltimore on Jan. 2, a reporter had a chance to ask Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer a question.Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter said via Twitter Friday that he ran into Palmer at Drew Brees' Cox Celebrity Golf Classic in San Diego. Palmer didn't say anything other than he's still on "media hiatus."With the lockout continuing, there's nothing for Palmer to say at this time. He can't be traded until the work stoppage is settled, and Bengals president Mike Brown has said the team won't trade him.For those who think that Palmer, who is scheduled to make $11.5 million this season, would pull a Brett Favre - return and force the team to deal him - that appears unlikely.Coach Marvin Lewis said last week that if Palmer returned, it would be as the starter with rookie Andy Dalton as the backup and quarterback of the future.http://news.cincinnati.com/article/20110521/SPT02/105220348/Notebook-Palmer-media-hiatus-Edwards-wins-debut?odyssey=tab|topnews|text|

He goes so far as to predict a Superbowl. At the end of the season, he completely bails. The perspective that time is providing on this whole dreary episode is making Palmer look weaker and weaker. Going to celebrity golf tournaments in California is perfect for this little f**kehead, he sure as hell is no football player. He obviously just wants to retire. Why didn't he just announce his retirement, move back to la la land to his life of leisure? Had to take a shot at the Bengals on the way out, after all, all they did for him was pay him millions, hire his brother, bring in weapon after weapon for him to throw to, support him unconditionally even when he was playing like s**t, etc. Just another brick in the foundation of the legacy he'll try to create, with a very willing assist from the media; "Yea, I was really good, coulda been great, but, you know, I played for the Bengals." Next up on the 'blame your mediocrity on the Bengals' bandwagon? Chad.
ArmyBengal
I hate Chad as much, if not more than anyone else but I will say this:Chad WAS great. He was an amazingly dedicated football player that loved what he did. He had 5 consecutive seasons of either leading his conference or the league in receiving yards (something not even the great Jerry Rice could accomplish). He loved everything about football and then it all changed. He stopped dedicating himself to football, changed his name, and became this walking dick with an ever expanding ego. It was never the same after that. You can blame it on the organization or whatever you want, but he bailed and or tanked just the same. Worse, he called out the fans that loved him.Yes, Chad WAS great and I honestly, truthfully miss THAT Chad. I think it's a shame. Now I just want him gone. Blame the organization, age, the losing, no-TJ, Carson's knee and elbow all you want but go back to 2006 or 2007 when it happened and read the posts. Some folks around here called it and I believe it came true. http://forums.bengalszone.com/index.php?showtopic=18118&st=0&p=249041&hl=rosenhaus&fromsearch=1&#entry249041At what point does attention-whoring trump dedication to craft? It's easy to fear a mass revolt or future defections but there aren't that many guys that have that kind of leverage. That's why it's only ever the star players that can do it. For 95% of the other guys on the roster they would promptly get cut if they uttered their displeasure. So I am not worried about setting a bad precedent. These things happen in every town and for every team.Personally it's time to get what you can for Palmer.

Because if the argument is that there is nothing wrong with the Bengals then why would you be afraid of other players threatening to leave? There has been plenty of players from other teams voice their displeasure and get traded. In no circumstance did a max exodus of players leave that team. It simply would not happen and is a terrible reason not to get high draft picks for a starting QB.
membengal
That's not the concern. The concern is future stars (infrequent as they might be in Cincy) will attempt the same maneuver. The message being sent here isn't to the 45th player on the roster, it is to the future 1st and 2nd players on the roster.

And if you can't manage to keep your future first and second round picks here, you have a much bigger problem in the organization than Carson Palmer. A problem big enough to keep you from being successful on the field no matter your negotiation stance.
membengal
We continue to agree to disagree on this, hokie. So be it. ArmyBengal
Go back and look at other teams that have gotten rid of their QB's before their time was up. Was there mass exodus from their former teams ??If the answer is no, which it is, then the problem people are concerned with has less to do with letting Palmer go and more to do with the organization as a whole. That's nothing new for this fanbase, but I have a hard time accepting this team is going to go down the sh*tter any more than it already has simply due to the departure of Palmer. There have been other major players for teams that have left and have gone on to rebuild their teams with the draft picks they got in return.Cutler strikes me as a QB that left and there wasn't a huge fallout of players because of the move. Sure Marshall was shown the door, but after the stabbing and other reports, that wasn't a poor decision. Now what the team did with their picks hasn't been all rainbows and wonderful, but it's an example of a franchise QB leaving and the players left remaining to make thier team the best it can be.
