Training Camp and Preseason Thread 2023 - News and Obs

Thankfully him not being able to pitch has no bearing on him tackling the shit out of someone !! That being said, he’s no worse than some of the pitching I’ve seen from the Reds !! -

I think they’ve proven their approach to this point has worked more often than not. I have no concerns. -

I’m equally excited to watch some of the free agents we brought in as well. I think it’s easy to forget those guys when adding new shiny rookies, but they will make an impact this season. I want to see Orlando Brown in stripes, but Nick Scott, Sidney Jones, Irv Smith, and even DE Tarell Basham. Those guys are going to be seen for sure !! -
Barkley is a year younger than Mixon and isn't getting younger. If the Giants offered him 12.5 per year and he turned it down with two seasons either being lost or impacted by injury, he's crazy. Sucks RB's salaries aren't nearly 20 million, with continued expected growth, but it's too risky for a team to do that. Teams finding starting RB's in late rounds that produce isn't helping their case either. Like it or not, it's not one of those positions that teams are valuing as much as they once did. Maybe that changes in the future, maybe not.

Summer chatter leading up to training camp 2023

So will the play of Chase Brown at RB. With Perrine gone, I think Brown will get more than enough snaps to show whether or not he's capable to be the lead RB or not. I'm rooting for Mixon to have a great year and would him to stick around, but I simultaneously want Brown to Hulk the f*ck out this year. -

Glad that’s not our issue. Man the RB market is hot ass.

Ok, while I am no Mr. Olympia, I have lifted throughout my military career and still dabble with it when I decide to get off the couch. That being said, I see absolutely ZERO benefit to have that much weight slung onto your shoulders uncontrollably. Looks like some Cross Fit action going on there. 250-300 pounds just slamming into your shoulders like that? It's like a barbell clean, gone horribly wrong. I don't know, but go get after it Ossai and stay safe !! -

One of the websites I take a look at leading up to the draft is The Draft Network (I believe others here do as well). Anyway, I popped back over there this morning simply because things were slow and I look in from time to time. I glanced at their final consensus of the top 100 players heading into the 2023 draft. I was a little surprised. Myles Murphy is #7 overall. DJ Turner is #30 overall. Jordan Battle is #34 overall. While understanding these guys aren't working for an NFL organization, a few of them have done college recruiting that work through their drafts. Aside from TDN in general, I am still really happy when looking back at the Bengals draft haul for the defensive side of the ball. Adding additional pieces on the offensive side of the ball and a shiny new punter and this will be an interesting camp this year. While I don't expect these guys to step into starting roles, I think there might be some guys who lose their spot on the depth chart. -
It’s just the Brewers they’ve had issues with. I’m not about to knock them either. They have solid pitching from starters to relievers. We have, well…. Our pitching staff. About as night and day as you can get.
-
Then today they break out of the scoring slump, take a lead into the 6th or 7th, only to lose the game.

FC Cincinnati still sitting in first place after their win over 3rd place Nashville last night. Such a good time to head down to TQL stadium for a match !! Matches have been sold out and the fans are great !! Forgot to mention they are 11-0-1 when playing at home this season !!
-
Boy the Brewers just have the Reds number. 3 straight shutout losses and striking out a buttload in the process.

Murphy isn’t going to have any pressure on him to step in as a starter either. Being able to just relax, learn, and then get after the QB when he gets his opportunities. Can’t wait to watch him and some of the other rookies that are going to get snaps this year. -

I suppose seeing other RB’s sitting there with camp about to start and having no deal in sight probably helped him make the decision. -

Additionally, in staying Mixon should easily move to #3 for Bengals career rushing leaders ahead of Rudi Johnson. Should he have another big year and hit 1200 yards, he would move ahead of James Brooks for #2 all time. Get after it Joe !!! -

“Mixon was scheduled to make more than $10 million this season and had a $12.8 million cap hit. The 26-year-old agreed to a significant pay cut. Mixon will make just under $6 million in base salary and could make up to $8 million with incentives according to Pro Football Talk.” -

I can’t tell you how happy I am to see this happen. This is yet another departure from how this front office has always operated in the past. I love that the Bengals are known for their loyalty to players, but when that is to the detriment of the team, I’m not sure that is something to love anymore. Nothing personal against Mixon and I will be rooting for him just as much this year as any other, but this needed to happen. Yes, looking forward to the specifics. -
When I was in Buffalo, I did next to nothing outside of football, pizza and wings. None of those had anything to do specifically with Buffalo. After that trip, I've added Buffalo to the list of cities I would nuke if that were feasible. Yes, I have a list like that...

Just read where the Bills starting LT, Dion Dawkins, said during the Bengals playoff game the Bills were just flat. It's odd, because I can remember turning to my son at the game and saying, "It's weird, the Bills don't seem like the Bills today". I think he's right that they were just flat. Not placing blame, but rather curious how much the Damar Hamlin situation from the Monday Night game and all the emotions between the two clubs really impacted things for them? While I think the Bengals obviously felt bad for Hamlin and gave mass support to him and the Bills team, I think coach Taylor did a great job keeping them focused. A big, exciting win over the Ravens, followed by getting hyped over the whole coin flip bullshit, had the team in a different headspace. The Bills seemingly just had a, it's the Bengals and Damar almost died last game kind of vibe. Still loved being at that game and hearing the Bengals fans in Buffalo chanting WHODEY all way into the upper deck !!

I don’t think anyone did. Amazing how all this young talent has really paid off for them. Not just De La Cruz either, although he’s really good and fun to watch. They just need some help with their pitching staff. Hope things trend this way in the 2nd half.

Official Bengals Ring of Honor coming to PBS
ArmyBengal replied to COB's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
Dillon is the Bengals all time leading rusher for yards and #3 in rushing touchdowns. Absolute Ring of Honor in my opinion. However, that in and of itself does not make him a top 5 Bengal of all time. I liked him better when no one heard from him. He’s the guy deserving of all the accolades that you hate. Put him in so he can go away… -

From McNicholas high school (Cincinnati), to the University of Cincinnati, to the Cincinnati Bengals. How cool of a career he has had punting and playing football. Too bad he didn't get a Super Bowl ring on his way out. Good luck to Huber in his future dealings !!! -
Official Bengals Ring of Honor coming to PBS
ArmyBengal replied to COB's topic in Cincinnati Bengals
I saw that Corey Dillon came out of hiding and spouted off about the Bengals. From the clips I read, he's upset he's not in the Bengals Ring of Honor yet. While I believe he should absolutely be in the Ring of Honor, I would not have put him in before any of the 6 currently in there. His time will come, so him finding something to be pissed off about is humorous to me. Settle down there Corey, no need to be a douchebag about an honor that will come. Next, he took issue with having the fans voting on who gets into the ROH. While I could see this being a potential issue, the fans don't select who gets on the ballot, they just get to pick from the players and coaches given to them to choose from. If he doesn't like that aspect of it, he's bitching at the wrong people. Bottomline for me is that Corey will have his day and most certainly should. He's more than worthy. However, him just shutting the fuck up and not being a complete douchebag would be helpful.
