ArmyBengal Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 Sounds like my loyalty to “Hookers and Blow”. Bone in. I’ll have to try that with a side of fries and sauce. I might have been missing out this whole time. Yeah, I’m never growing up… 1 Quote

Stripes Posted July 15 Report Posted July 15 Every Bengals-related podcast or TV program is unbearable right now. So and so ranked Joe Burrow 4th instead of 3rd, and they didn't have Dexter Lawrence in their top whatever. Who fucking cares? Get us to training camp already, JFC. 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 15 Author Report Posted July 15 The content monster must be fed constantly. If your audience ain’t clicking, you’re dying. Any objective analysis would 100% tell Mike to sell the team. What capital do they really have embedded in that business? Compared to the price they’ll get for the business, almost none. They basically own a media production company that is very dependent on 31 other media production companies to help them put on 17 or 20 or 21 shows a year. Ultimately that’s all it is. i think they own the practice facility beside the stadium. They have a lease for the stadium, but that stadium is publicly owned. That lease can be broken. They own some equipment and a license to participate in the nfl. The ridiculous pile of money they could get for that company to then invest it across a broad spectrum of businesses through the stock market is mind-boggling. If you take Mike’s ego out of it, take the fun of owning an NFL franchise out of it, remove the cachet that it provides your extended family, owning an NFL franchise, good God just sell that thing. I can really think of one franchise in the NFL that sits there and is operated specifically to make money for the owner and his family. Ours. Every other team is a vanity project for a mega, wealthy person, a part of a larger sports team owning conglomerate, or a centerpiece for a marketing and manufacturing operation like the Dallas Cowboys for instance. The closest thing to our outfit are the Raiders and the Bears. But they are both in much larger markets, and have modernized operations well beyond just employing family members and their friends/associates. 1 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted July 16 Report Posted July 16 The Bills use to be that way and are still considered “small market” But are owned by people that own other pro teams as well. I always looked at them as being the closest to the Bengals for a very long time. Now? I don’t know really. Cleveland? That dude is a complete fucktard. I never considered the Raiders that way simply because of the massive following they have even overseas. The Bears? Chicago? Don’t view them that way either. The Bengals seem like the only kid in an NFL special needs class. Quote

HoosierCat Posted July 19 Author Report Posted July 19 So, The Odyssey. Good movie even if it is 3 hours. Nolan makes an…interesting…choice in formatting it more like a mystery than an adventure. All the set pieces from the story are there and all of them are fantastic, especially the cyclops. But it all struck me as a bit disjointed because of the aforementioned choice. Still worth the price of admission tho. 4/5 stars. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted July 19 Report Posted July 19 Heard that for all kinds of bad reviews but I tend not to pay attention because other people may watch a movie for different reasons than I. Meaning, some people are all “That’s not historically accurate”. Ok maybe but did it entertain me? If so, it’s a good flick. Take Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Not exactly based on truth, but I found it both amusing and entertaining. That’s a win even if others thought it was corny. Quote
Stripes Posted July 20 Report Posted July 20 The Odyssey is a work of fiction and mythology, so historical accuracy is silly anyway. Quote
HoosierCat Posted July 20 Author Report Posted July 20 Yeah none of that stuff bothered me. My issue was the flashback structure Nolan chose ti keep from the original work. So it feels a bit like a movie that got stitched together by taking the highlights from a season of a tv show (anime does this a lot). Third act slaps tho. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted July 22 Report Posted July 22 Well shit, I meant to merge Stripes ROH comment with the original thread and ended up combining both threads and can't undue to action. If any mod can assist in breaking those two threads back out, it would better that way. Jesus, take a vacation, come back and just start fucking up shit... Take that Bengalszone !! 2 Quote

Yeah, it may be slim pickens around here, but the content is strong with this group. Some content on this board I am particularly fond of is (in no particular order): Anything doing with the Rascal Freedom Power Chair from Sam's Club. The power of Arby's potato cakes and the teenagers working the drive through. TJ's dead gramma. The deadly rookie pool that should never be mentioned. Mike's Lumina and his thought of the day. (Where did that thread go?) Movie reviews. Boobiemeister celebrations. (Miss you Billy) Why hookers and blow should be a reasonable accommodation in the work place. What are you listening to right now? Which does NOT get enough attention. I'm sure there is something I'm missing... Oh wait. Yeah, the Bengals. How did I forget them? 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted July 22 Report Posted July 22 Since I mentioned movie reviews, allow me to give one. For those who may have not taken the 1 hour and 38 minutes to watch Old Henry, you have been missing out. Not sure how I missed this moving when it came out in 2021, but watched it recently on Netflix. Holy shit, I was not expecting that ending and to even hint at it would ruin the whole damn thing. If you like to be entertained and want to eat up a little time, I can think of MUCH worse ways than watching this. 1 Quote
