COB Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 3 out of the 4 games went to the team I wanted to lose. Patriots, Broncos, and Rams. The Seahawks vs Niners I didn’t care about. Was pulling for the Texans and the Bears. I’m a legitimate jinx at this point. Quote
Stripes Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 Bills fired McDermott. We are being punished by God. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 Dude the slaughterhouse of coaches this year is insane. Not to sound crazy but maybe this wasn’t the year to be looking for a new coach. Can’t see any of these guys saying, I’d love to coach in Cincinnati for the Brown family. Quote
COB Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 The Bills job parallels the bengals job somewhat so it’ll be instructive to see who they get. A top level QB in his prime, owned by a family (though the Pegula family just took in some PE $$), small market. Very attractive job. One difference: they’ll likely be willing to pay serious cash for a good coach. Mike is at home designing a scheme to avoid paying the quarter for the cart rental at Aldi. 1 1 Quote

I already know this one a lot of shoppers love the savings at aldi but cant bother to bring their cart back after loading their car you just wait for someone like this to abandon their cart in the parking lot. easy twenty five cents this may be the makings of a part time job :-) Quote

Stripes Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 Imagine the Patriots get this QB lineup in the playoff run: Tall Andy Dalton (Justin Herbert) CJ Stroud Jarrett Stidham Sam Darnold 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 19 Report Posted January 19 I’m all in with the Seahawks but can’t really fathom giving a shit either way. Quote

ArmyBengal Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 That was a great game, but it ended the way I thought it would. Everyone (including my Buckeyes) slept on the Hoosiers damn near all year. Outside of last year's Natty for the Buckeyes, that was about as pleasing as it gets. Great coach, great QB, great players, just a great team. Fun game to watch and happy for everyone associated with the University. Only 1 time has 1 conference won the National Championship 4 times in a row with 4 different teams. The SEC with LSU(2007), Florida(2008), Alabama(2009) and Auburn(2010). Not part of the Big 10 until recently: Oregon and USC could be in the mix. That kind of stuff always intrigued me. Happy for Indiana and the Big 10 today !! 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 20 Author Report Posted January 20 A tip of the hat to Dehner for this lead sentence in his latest Athletic story. Quote During a two-week hurricane of NFL developments and news, the Bengals have been quietly moving forward in their bunker of continuity at Paycor Stadium. The "bunker of continuity." LMAO. There's a whole Hitler "Downfall" parody in those three words. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 20 Report Posted January 20 I know people hate the Patriots, although I never really disliked them. The Brady era was simply a period of time where a team mired in futility had injuries work their way. Now, they bring in a coach and revamp every damn thing and do a complete 180. They went from 3-14 last year to 14-3 this year. How? Well along with bringing in Vrabel, they hit most groups in free agency. O-line, D-line, WR's, TE, linebacking corps, and the secondary. On top of that, they do what everyone says you can't do and have 6-7 rookies starting or making an impact. Rookies starting you say? Well that would mean your scouting department did a good job. Well the Patriots revamped that as well. People can hate the Patriots all they want, but they got it right with these moves. Looks like the Bengals could take something away from their approach. "Could" but won't. 1 Quote

HoosierCat Posted January 22 Author Report Posted January 22 18-game season talk bubbling up again. Quote Appearing Tuesday on Boston radio station 98.5 The Sports Hub, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft said he supports an 18-game regular season paired with a reduction of the preseason to two games. While the 18-game proposal has circulated for several years, the idea of mandating an annual international game for every team is new. "We’re going to push like the dickens now to make international more important with us," said Kraft. "Every team will go to 18 and 2 and eliminate one of the preseason games. Every team every year will play one game overseas. Part of the reason is so we can continue to grow the cap and keep our labor happy." NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has publicly pushed for an 18-game schedule and said last April on The Pat McAfee Show that he would also like to move the Super Bowl to the Sunday before Presidents’ Day. Players are basically like, yeah, fine as long as you pay us more. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 22 Report Posted January 22 Correction made: "We’re going to push like the dickens now to make international more important with us because, well... money. We need more money." 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 22 Author Report Posted January 22 Yeah everyone likes money. But really it’s probably a good idea for us since most seasons the bengals 1. Need most/all of September to figure out how to play football again and 2. Can count on Burrow missing half the year because some DT breathed on him too hard. Every extra Dec/Jan game helps! Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 23 Report Posted January 23 With all the snow projected for Cincinnati, Sunday is going to be an awesome football watching day. Not that I have a dog in the fight for either of these games, but I clearly won't be going outside. The early game is the Patriots at the Broncos Again, I love Vrabel as a coach and like the new look Patriots. They certainly aren't the old Patriots. I don't really relate to anything the Broncos are about, but seeing Stidham get the W would be fun. The late game is the Rams at the Seahawks Much like Broncos, I don't really like much about the Rams and I'm not over the SB loss. Fuck them. The Seahawks are intriguing to me. Great defense, Darnold having success is cool, JSN is a great WR (go Bucks) and Cooper Kupp beating his old team would be fun. There are a handful of guys on that defense I really liked coming out of college. Give me the Patriots and the Seahawks with a different ending and a Seahawk Super Bowl win. To be honest it could be the Broncos and Rams and I really don't care. Not even sure if will watch. I'm just saying... 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 23 Author Report Posted January 23 I'm guessing it will be a Hags/Pats Super Bowl, so meh. Kind of funny tho -- I can remember long stretches of years when both those teams' fortunes were as forlorn as the Bengals'. That they are now good teams still strikes me as off somehow. Quote
COB Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Since central Ohio seems to be preparing for a nuclear attack or a mass casualty event, been nice knowing you guys. If by some miracle I survive the impending disaster, aka, like 8 inches of snow, I’ll be back here to make fun of Mike. Quote
Stripes Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Mike McCarthy is the guy in Pittsburgh. I think that's probably good for us. He's been reasonably successful but never more than that. He can perpetuate the Tomlin appeal by never getting them over the hump and also being too good to fire for ten years. Quote
COB Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Going to be a great day today. Level 3 snow emergency up here. Looking forward to watching these two championship games, and eating a lot of chili. Quote
