COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Damn, breaking stat records all over the place, leading the league in various offensive numbers. Then there’s 1. Our defense and 2. Our end of game management. Quote
COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Just feels good to beat the Steelers, the circumstances don’t matter to me. I know who the luckiest team in the NFL is right now - whatever team draws Pittsburgh in the first round of the playoffs. 1 Quote

HoosierCat Posted January 5 Author Report Posted January 5 Draft pick watch: Bengals are now at 17 with the win over Pitt. We are rooting for Atlanta to beat Carolina tomorrow. Assuming the Bengals don’t make the postseason, a Falcons win pushes then back to 16. Quote
Stripes Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Joe Burrow on Mike Gesicki in the post-game press conference: "That guy was so valuable for us all year, and a guy that, in my opinion, we need to bring back." He's not mincing words these days. He said essentially the same thing about Tee earlier in the week. Good. Make this weenie front office feel some heat to be proactive. Quote
COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Agreed on Burrow applying pressure. He’s watched several good players just walk out the door, then observed their drafted or cheaper FA replacements struggle. It’s a pattern. Quote
Stripes Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Lines have moved slightly for Sunday. Jets favored by 1. Broncos favored by 11. I hope Wentz plays the whole game. They were talking about some third stringer. Quote

They NEED Tee back without him this offense is just terrible. When he left last night this offense was garbage! Crazy how he makes this offense go apparently, but he does! Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 5 Author Report Posted January 5 Speaking of, if you were wondering where Tee was for a lot of the game last night, he’s playing on a sprained ankle. Got through Denver fine but it was apparently more of an issue last night. https://clutchpoints.com/bengals-news-tee-higgins-eye-opening-injury-admission-win-steelers Quote
COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Weird stats from the game last night- TJ Watt had zero sacks, zero tackles, zero assists, zero pressures. He didn’t even show up on the defensive stat sheet. First time that’s happened to TJ in 120 career starts. Cody Ford, utility guy for our line and new love interest of Troy Aikman, blocked Watt into irrelevance (yes with a little help). The last time Cody (we’re in a first name basis now), made a start at right tackle? His rookie year, 2019, in our playoff game against the Texans when he was lined up against JJ Watt, TJ’s older brother. 1 Quote
COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 The above stats were published by Jay Morrison on SI’s website. He writes for them, and I kind of just discovered his writing. It’s good. I listened to him on Paul Dehner’s YouTube thing last night then looked him up. In his old twitter bio or something he refers to himself as an “Arby’s Superfan,” so, he’s a righteous sort of person. ArmyBengal Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 I saw the Burrow interview last night as well and thought the same thing again. Good for Burrow to speak up for his guys. Gesicki was targeted 83 times this season (nearly 5 times per game) and had 65 receptions on the season (nearly 4 per game). So 78% of the time, when the ball was thrown his way, he came down with the catch. Just for comparison sake, Ja'Marr caught the ball 72.5% of the time and Tee caught the ball 67% of the time. Yoshi had 61 targets for (59%) and RB Chase had 65 targets for (83%) which was incredible for Chase this year. The argument to keep Gesicki isn't based on his redzone production of TD's, but rather his ability to get open and come down with the ball. Additionally, 38 of Gesicki's 65 receptions went for a first down. This was the 2nd best season of his 7 year career. BRING HIM BACK !! 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Yes, always good to beat the Steelers. Especially on the road in front of their stupid ass fans. It's nice to be interested in the outcome of the games today to see if the Bengals can sneak in. I will be watching both of those games for sure. GO JETS, GO CHIEFS !!! Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 5 Author Report Posted January 5 Panthers Falcons turning into a fun game all of a sudden. Quote
COB Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 The only good thing about Bill Cowher’s announcing is that he doesn’t pretend to be smart in any way shape or form. 1 Quote

Stripes Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Both NFC South games had big spreads and both are down to the wire. Follow suit, Chiefs. Quote
Stripes Posted January 5 Report Posted January 5 Baker finishes with 2 TDs, which essentially locks Burrow into the final league lead for TD passes. 1 Quote
AMPHAR Posted January 6 Report Posted January 6 Higgins lower body issues are constant over the past two years. They come out of no where too. Bengals can do what they want and I'm in favor of signing all offensive Free Agents. A 4/5 year deal at $20m+ for Tee is a risk for sure. Him being in and out of the line up is already annoying enough, imagine him at $75m guaranteed and coming up a practice before the opener as doubtful or not available for the Chiefs again. Quote

My prediction, no clue or interest to know how the financial caps work, but IF the cap stuff allows them to, this franchise will NEVER sign, Chase, Higgins, Gesicki, Hendrickson, and Hilton. Quote
TJJackson Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 my hope is that they hire the DC and then let him recruit his own staff, which may or may not include the two secondary coaches we still have. The emergence of Josh Newton as a starting quality cb should count in their favor Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 8 Author Report Posted January 8 Hendrickson named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against Pitt. https://www.bengals.com/news/trey-hendrickson-afc-defensive-player-of-the-week-18-2024 Fun fact from that piece: Quote This is the first season in his career in which he led the league in sacks. It also is the first time a Bengals player finished a season as the NFL sack leader since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 I know he’s here for 2025 and he’s not getting younger but I’d really like to see a couple more seasons with T-Rex !! Quote
