ArmyBengal Posted March 18 Author Report Posted March 18 Murphy is a real question mark for me. On one hand I want to call him a bust. A team simply cannot draft a guy in the first round and get so little out of them. It hurts this team more because it's on the defensive side of the ball that anticipated him making more of an impact. Then again, he was like the youngest player in the draft a couple years ago and just turned 23. While a big guy, I can't help but wonder how much being so young played into it. That and he hasn't had a massive amount of defensive snaps and not a single start since being drafted. I think development of players also needs to be taken into consideration. He put up 25 reps at the combine. While that's solid, it falls short of what the average lineman should be putting up. Maybe it's mental for him, I don't know, but this is the last year I'm going to keep hope for it to click for him. 1 Quote

AMPHAR Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Murphy is a bust, IMO. It didn't appear he entered last year's TC ready to go. He was running with the scrubs early in TC and the only reason he made it out was due to injury. Then as the season went along after he returned from injury he started making a few plays, no sacks. He needs a sharp turn around. Quote

Justin Jefferson contract pays him more actual money in the first 4 years than Myles Garrett. $126m vs. $125m Garrett's AAV is pumped up by the last 2 years which highly likely he never sees. We'll see what Chase collects his first 4 years and how its structured but there was no drastic price increase in terms of real money. If the Bengals pay drastically more in the first 4 years its was because they are nice people. Unless the hacks locally and nationally recognize this, don't pay attention to their newer hot takes. AMPHAR Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Garrett's deal is a functional 4yr $125m deal. $80m in the last two years bringing total length and value to 6yr $204m. None of it equals $40m a year. He may have gotten new years and money that equaled $40m a year but seems like creative accounting. Reported AAVs are agent serving. Just something to keep in mind when thinking about the potential Chase and Tee cap hits. Quote

I checked in with Mike and he confirmed that not only were they not signing anyone else, but next season nosebleed tix will start at $1,000.00 and a beer will cost $250. Quote

They could have a plan to move guys around, have a tentative starter already decided upon, then just see how low the FA guard market drops. If it drops into “they’ll take half their deal in Fashion Bug discount coupons from Mike’s wife’s dresser” territory, then they bring one in for the sake of competition. PS - don’t tell Scherff, but Fashion Bug went belly up in 2013. Quote

In reality the Crosby and Garrett deals were bringing them up to the market Justin Jefferson and Cee Dee set in the summer. With Garrett's funny money on the end and Chase's reported AAV. Get kinda of nervous that these two (Tee/Chase) will be back in contract talks in 2 or 3 years. Quote

Much like Burrow signing the contract that made him the highest paid QB in history. That's just something to say, but is always short lived. Truth is, that in a couple of years, those deals will look like bargains simply because the cap and future deals with other players will do nothing but continue to grow. While I wish they would have gotten things done sooner with them, it really is neither here nor there. Tee and Chase will be here for a while with Burrow and the offense should be fun to watch. Just pay Trey already and let Golden get the defense back to middle of the pack. If that happens, we are right back in the thick of Super Bowl contention. I truly believe that and am happy to be able to feel that way about our team. It's a good time to be a Bengals fan. 1 Quote

Last March, Hunter agreed to a two-year, $49 million contract with Houston as a free agent. The Texans have added $35.6 million to the back end of that original deal after his Pro Bowl debut with the team. Hunter will get a $12 million raise in 2025, bumping his salary to $32 million. He will earn the remainder of the extension in 2026. So it's a two-year, $55 million-ish deal, including the $19 million Hunter was initially set to make in 2025. So for Trey we would be looking to add something like $15 million to his deal this year and then tacking on $25-30 million in 2026. As I understand it most of Hunter's new money is guaranteed so that's an issue, as usual. And you would probably have to have a void year or two, meaning the hated (by the FO) dead money. But that's all structure. If they aren't going to do something longer, this looks like the guide. Quote
