ArmyBengal Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 I've always held out hope for Kirkland, as once upon a time (prior to injury) he was a top end OT prospect. Not sure if that ever comes to fruition for him but not willing to play wait and see. That would be a welcomed problem for the o-line to have. 1 Quote

Haven't really heard much from him regarding the team extending Trey's contract, but have to think he has to be wanting to keep him for his defense and hoping to get some of that coin used on his side of the ball. Either that or being told minus an OG, the rest of the draft picks are his to use. LOL... Yeah, I think Al is going to largely have the keys to the draft, outside a guard. PFF did a write-up on the Chase/Higgins signings and simulated a possible draft of Kelvin Banks Jr., in the first, followed by ED Landon Jackson and DL Jordan Phillips. That seems pretty good to me. They might even consider a trade down in the first and target someone like Grey Zabel, and pick up an extra third for Al in the process. Quote

Trying to outrun other teams failed miserably last year, but even a slightly improved defense should help turn those closer losses from last season into wins in 2025. That's what I'm hoping for heading into this season at least. Defense of course but on a higher level its finishing games. For example they were in control a bunch in Baltimore then Chase Brown fumbles, they let a dude dash down a sideline for a TD, bad calls or no calls etc. That story repeats itself a bunch the past two seasons and its realistic because the margin they've missed the playoffs has been so slim. AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Trey comes off to be All about his sacks. But there's a bunch of defensive players publically hoping he comes back. I'm hoping it happens. Quote
AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Quote I haven't seen too much of the "Stupid Bengals" take There's plenty. Nick Wright has commented against it. Unsportsmanlike has as well. That's fine. I think it is a legit points. However, when they were calling the Bengals "cheap" that point of view was muffled or absolutely not brought up at all. There were plenty of reasons not to sign Higgins and commit cap dollars to him. Yet when they tagged him it was "cheap". They were shamed nationally. Joe Burrow should ask for a trade etc. Tee Higgins can't repeat that past two years, IMO, for this to work at the highest level. Which has been about getting Joe a second bite at a Superbowl. Quote

Never heard of them, but it's whatever. Wouldn't be surprised to hear there are good points. I think that's normal regardless of the side taken. We've discussed many here on the board, but by in large this is not the norm for the Bengals. I don't think it would have happened if Burrow hadn't raised it to the degree that he did. Was it all Burrow, as I've seen suggested? No, but I don't dismiss his input in the least. Quote

Wraith Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Nick Wright is a KC Bobo who knows the Bengals are the Chiefs biggest threat in the AFC. I would love Hendrickson signed at the right price but my right price would be less than 30. If they cannot, trading him for a high second and late third would work for me. Take 17 and replace Hendrickson, there are several mid first level guys at Edge and then take your new second and new third and use them to fix the interior o-line. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 Yeah, I don't watch much of any sports guys on the networks and prefer to read takes on football. Probably part of the reason I enjoy coming to the forum as much as I do. That and the stories of Mike Brown's Rascal Freedom Power Chair and TJ's dead gramma. I made a post over in the draft section that I'm not sold on the DE at #17 being much, if any, better than a DE we could get in the 2nd round. I really don't like the idea of Trey being traded at this point, simply because I don't think you can replace him with one player. Now if we are talking the "ridiculous" first rounder and another sweetener, then maybe, but I don't think we will see that at this point. Honestly, I expect Trey back now that they better know with Tee and Ja'Marr being done. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 It feels (at least to me) more likely that Trey and the Bengals come to some kind of arrangement that keeps him in Cincy now. He’s already on the cap books for around $19m, so there’s no issue there, and if the Bengals need cash, they can find it. On Trey’s part, reportedly he thought he could get a first, and it turns out he thought wrong. So hopefully he has a little more realistic view of the situation. If the Bengals really did put a $30-32m AAV deal on the table before he sought a trade, and if that’s still on the table, Hendrickson would be a fool not to take it. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 Yeah, he should not lose sight of the fact he's not 25-28 any longer. Or the fact he signed the last deal offered to him. It's one thing to bet on yourself and lose. It's another to NOT bet on yourself, win, and still lose. 1 Quote

Stripes Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 I'm resigned to edge rusher being solely a draft priority (even if I'm not thrilled). It's looking to me like the DL will be: Edge - Hendrickson (pending), Ossai, C. Johnson, Murphy, Sample, [high draft pick] Interior - Hill, Jenkins, Jackson, Slaton, [possibly draft pick] Murphy continues to stand out as the obvious WHY in this group, but maybe he'll finally shut me up with more opportunities. Quote
TJJackson Posted March 18 Report Posted March 18 Indeed, this would be a MUCH better team if either Murphy or Ossai (or better yet, both) could bring a steady pressure on the QB I think there is a chance we'll see a 5 sack season from Jenkins Quote

The FA market for DE has been more or less dead (ask Trey) because teams think they can get a good prospect cheap in their first three picks. Quote

Not sure he was worth what he got. If he stays healthy, maybe, but that appears to be a fairly large question mark. I'm good with the pass on him, but we do need help anywhere we can find it. Quote
