So Jonah Williams will be staying at right tackle for the Cardinals in 2024 since they decided to move first round pick from last year, Paris Johnson to the left tackle spot.  Johnson started at right tackle for the Cardinals last year.

Insert sad trombone sound here.

Is there another Bengals podcast outside of Locked on Bengals with James Rapien that is more boring to listen to ??
Don't get me wrong, the content is solid, but just listening to him and Jake Liscow makes me want to take a nap.
Nothing personal.  I want to like the podcast because they talk about the Bengals, but I just can't.

I listen because it’s there, but they kind of drive me nuts.

Rapien is just kind of a dork. Liscow is an asshole. And Liscow drives me nuts during interviews, because he is incapable of asking a concise question. Every question turns into a vocal paragraph so long that by the time he reaches the question mark the guest doesn’t remember what he’s supposed to be answering.

There’s also The Growler (formerly Hear That Podcast Growlin). It’s okay.

So taking a closer look, the Bengals got Trent Brown as our starting right tackle and Amarius Mims in the first round for about what the Cardinals paid Jonah Williams for the next two season ($30m).

Brown gets $4.75 for this season.
Mims should sign a deal a touch more than $25m for the next 5 years.

For perspective, last years #18 pick got a 5 year deal for $25m. LB Jack Campbell from the Lions.

I like how that all turned out for sure !!
Well done Bengals !!

If Trent Brown can replicate his Patriots level pass pro stats its the steal of the century.   However, somehow someway a Pollack coached line with a Zac Taylor called game with Burrow making calls finds a way to give up near 50 sacks a season.

The no. 1 choke hold on this offense is Burrow finding a way to miss Training Camp via non contact injuries.   The biggest non-Burrow factor is the negative plays given up by the line.

To get a an offense humming for 380+ near 27 points a game.   Burrow needs his training camp reps and stay healthy and directly related to that there needs to be a drastic reduction of pressures and negative plays given up by the line.

That will be the key to Burrow getting in the hunt for a MVP and also a return to the Superbowl.

To this day no QB, OC, HC, or OL coach has approached the offensive dominance displayed by Wyche and Boomer.   That was a run first, play action based team playing under the old NFL passing rules.   Kinda amazing really.

Bengals former 1st rounder Billy Price is retiring at 29. Apparently he’s undergoing treatment for a pulmonary embolism and is thankful to be alive. Pretty scary shit right there and understand why he’s calling it quits.

Too bad he never lived up to his draft status here. I loved him at Ohio State and was happy when we drafted him. Without him we wouldn’t have BJ Hill here either.

Wish him health and the best of luck to him and his family.

When taking a look at the WR depth chart there in Philly, I would say he has an equal chance as some of the other names of making that roster.  Picking him really hurt this team when considering others on the board in that draft, but I wish him luck.

Speaking of WRs, Chase's price just went up again.

Instead of Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb or Tee Higgins, Nico Collins has become the most recent receiver to land a big contract extension. Collins has agreed to terms with the Houston Texans on a three-year extension, as first reported by The Athletic.

The three-year deal includes $72.75 million -- with a max value of $75 million -- and $52 million guaranteed, according to ESPN.

The 25-year-old Collins will become one of the league's highest-paid wideouts as soon as he puts pen to paper. He will become the eighth wideout to make at least $24 million annually, a list that also includes A.J. Brown, Amon-Ra. St. Brown, Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams, Cooper Kupp, DeVonta Smith and DK Metcalf.

I like Nico Collins and am happy for him, but they just gave that contract to a WR that, until 2023, had never had a 500 yard receiving season and no more than 2 TD's in a season.
Stroud goes a long way to seeing him achieve the numbers he did last season, but damn.

If I'm Higgins, I'm asking for $30m a year now.

I don't know what the Bengals are waiting on here when it comes to Chase.
With every passing day, that contract gets more and more expensive.
While trying to figure out how to cut costs, the price continues to go up.

My guess is they don't have the cash on hand to cover the escrow for the $50 million-plus guaranteed Chase is going to get. They could borrow against next year's big fat shared revenues check from the league...but they would have to pay interest on the loan and that would come out of their pocket, so they'll wait until next year. Chase gets a bigger bag as a result but as far as the team is concerned that all comes from funds allocated for players, not the team's cut of the pie.

On a hilariously ridiculous rumor, the Bengals trading Higgins and their 2025 first round pick for Justin Jefferson, while being amazing, is completely insane. Sure would be fun though !!

Side note…
Anyone else having issues getting on the site or the pages loading?

Ok just wanted to make sure it wasn’t something I was doing. Took nearly two minutes to load the home page, get the Bengals sub forum, and load this thread.

If this was the 90’s and my dial up went that fast, I’d be thrilled. Just saying…

$76 million guaranteed for just three years (and basically a 90% guaranteed contract).  Don't show Mike this story, his heart can't take it.

The Dolphins agreed to a contract extension Thursday with Jaylen Waddle that makes him one of the highest-paid wide receivers in the NFL.

The three-year, $84.75 million extension includes $76 million guaranteed, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter. The $28.25 million average annual value of the extension is the fourth highest in the NFL among wide receivers, while the guaranteed money is the third behind A.J. Brown ($84 million) and Amon-Ra St. Brown ($77 million).

Chase camp is waiting.  They aren't signing until Justin Jefferson signs.

While I understand that in premise, it's really stupid.
So Chase won't sign until Jefferson does so his contract is bigger?  Give it a month or so and some other WR will sign a new deal bigger than his.  So who really cares?  Now you see a guy like Tyreek Hill, who signed an extension already bitching because all these other guys are getting a bigger deal than the one he currently has.  It's like a cycle of shit where they are never happy with what they have.

Although these are voluntary OTA's, I would then hope his absence has nothing to do with his contract.  I mean what point is there in staying away when you are waiting for someone else not associated with the success of your own team?  Who exactly are they "showing"?

It's not really a question I need answered, as I don't really care, I just find the whole thing really stupid.  God forbid I only get $30m, when that guy got $30.1m.  I DEMAND MORE.

Just NFL business.  Burrow did a similar thing.

The NFL got $75m per game from Netflix.   The cap has skyrocketed and will continue to do so.

A player is smart to wait but when the on field stuff resumes and injury goes up it starts tilting towards a gamble.   AJ Green took a hit.   Higgins ending still needs to be written but he's in a situation he must perform to get the prospective long term contract demands and most of his "bad" year was his doing but it was also heavily influenced by what happened at the QB spot.

Personally IF Justin Jefferson signs before camp.  I'd seriously would consider a hold out IF I were Chase assuming a deal has seriously been discussed and maybe 60% along the way.     Its just way too much money.

Burrow got lucky it was his calf.   If that injury had longer recovery or more complicated rehab at time when $250m or whatever was on the table good lord what mistake that would have been on his part.
