Slater has multiple warts

size/length - short arms, I think?

Northwestern is not exactly a power school with top competition every game

and he opted out of 2020

I have seen this guy mocked anywhere from top 5 to mid second round.  its bizarre.

as I have said before, all of the worthy picks at 5 have significant warts, as I see it

kinda sad that Devonta Smith was unwilling to have his height and weight measured......clearly a draft strategy but bottomline irritating

I know the same article says he will be measured at his pro day, but athletes who refuse measures seem untrustworthy to me.

Just as I - an applications developer - should be willing to demonstrate my coding ability at any interview, so should an athlete be willing to have their measurables measured, as those are important in their employer's hiring process.  Not permitting this is to me highly questionable

It seems pointless to refuse to be weighed and measured.  Once you go interview, the guys are going to get a good look at you and basically know how tall you are and how much you weigh.    Pointless.

.......and to be clear, I am looking for a plug and play type on the OL

so for me this makes Slater look even more attractive, albeit as an IOL (short arms), not an OT, at least initially (try some OT time in preseason or garbage time)

PFF engine - I traded back from 5 to 9 to 12 to 16 and then stayed at 16. Me picking for Bengals, draft went as follows (every mock I do where I trade back I end up being so much happier than staying put...):

Round 1 Pick 16 overall : Christian Darrisaw, OT, Va Tech
Round 2 Pick 37 overall: Azeez Ojulari, Edge, Georgia
Round 2 Pick 41 overall: Alex Leatherwood OT/G, Alabama
Round 2 Pick 48 overall: Landon Dickerson, C/G, Alabama
Round 3 Pick 69 overall: Daviyon Nixon, IDL, Iowa
Round 3 Pick 73 overall: Tylan Wallace, WR, Okie State
Round 3 Pick 76 overall: Roger McCreary, CB, Auburn
Round 4: Pick 110 overall: Baron Browning, LB, tOSU
Round 4: Pick 114 overall: Quincy Roche, Edge, UMiami
Round 5: Pick 150 overall: Patrick Jones II, Edge, Pitt
Round 6: Pick 181 overall: Kenny Yeboah, TE, Ole Miss
Round 6: Pick 191 overall: Marquez Stevenson, WR, Houston
Round 7: Pick 250 overall: Josh Jobe, CB, Alabama

PFF Draft grade: A-

Round 3 Pick 69 overall: D'Wayne Eskridge, WR, Western Michigan

Round 4 Pick 124 overall: Marvin Wilson IDL, Florida State
Round 4 Pick 136 overall: Shi Smith, WR, South Carolina
Round 5 Pick 155 overall: Keith Taylor, CB, Washington
Round 6 Pick 169 overall: Thomas Graham, CB, Oregon State
Round 7 : Justin Hilliard, LB, tOSU

hey Mem, Sheeran likes Chase as much as you do, maybe more

he states guarantees at the end of this video

https://twitter.com/i/status/1347553142762737666

that Chase will be the pick if the Bengals address OL in FA

My problem with this is that the Bengals definition of "address OL" probably involves much less talented player(s) than I am expecting, which is two OL one of which must be a ORT and both of which must be notably above the midline in ranked performance numbers for pass pro at their given positions, and not older than 30.

and if my expectations are met and Chase is the pick, I'd still want another OT with our early r2 pick

and OC needs to be addressed no later than r5, since Billy is on the last year or his contract and we need to get Hopkins eventual successor grooming this year so if Hopkins goes down next year we have the "next guy steps up" guy

They do what they need to do in FA and the draft opens up. Yeah, I would still love Chase. But really, that depends on actual work being done in FA. Fingers crossed.

Slater over chase and Sewell is a thing one could have mocked, yes. Not that one should. But one could.
