Just a feeling, but the Arena Wizard to Washington makes a ton of sense to me. First, Snyder is too stupid to know any better. Second, I feel like Snyder is seeking some acceptance and legitimacy in the NFL. Hire Chucky's brother and he probably feels he'll get instant street cred. I think he's probably right. How will the media look upon the hiring the brother of the crown jewel announcer in the crown jewel football show of the world wide leader? Probably pretty favorably, I would think.

Thanks. I still don't get it but whatever.

On the other front, am I the only one reminded of Dick LeBeau when I read all these Zimmer stories about how some team should hire him as head coach? They sounded just the same more than a decade ago. If he goes, hopefully he has better luck.

Well, consider the jobs.

Did Lebeau have even a snowball's chance during the dark times here? or would Zimmer have a better shot at success somewhere like Detroit, Minny or Tennessee?

I feel Zimmer has a good chance to be good at one of those places. I doubt he will be crushed under with weight of an organization like the dark ages Bengals.

Honestly, hiring Gruden seems possible, though it is a virtual death sentence. RG3 stories out now do not paint a good picture of the inside. Major dysfunction. Major.

If it's Gruden's ONLY shot he thinks he's gonna get, he should take it because, f**k it, you will get a shot.

I think the place that makes the most sense is actually Detroit. Similar to weaponry and defensive talent as Cincy, a QB with perhaps a higher overall ceiling but less discipline. Great facility and fan base. Detroit is attractive. Way more so than DC.... good lord.

Oh, no doubt willy, LeBeau had little chance here. Still, it's just that all the laments sound eerily familiar.

yep, agree.

Lebeau deserved better. So does Zim, if he does get an offer. I hope Zim does not get sucked into the Redskins black hole of coaching death.

More I think of it, I'd wager that Gruden departs and gets the Detroit job. And he could make it work, if he also learns from the last 3 years.

LeBeau was a horrible head coach. Have you ever heard one of his press conferences? It's like he interviews himself: "Do we need to play better? Absolutely. Did we fail to make plays on offense? Yes we did. Do we need to play better in order to beat the Steelers next week? Yes we do."

He also allowed a 3 way QB competition which was a disaster from the get go. You can't give enough reps or playing time for a 3 way competition. Furthermore he failed to motivate Akili Smith. Maybe he was a lost cause at QB but I think a Bill Belichick or Tom Coughlin would have followed him around for a year if need be or cut him.

Loads and loads of buzz about Gruden to DC this morning. Supposedly he is the "leading candidate." Belatedly I'm starting to see some talking heads ask exactly what Jay has done to generate such interest. Two answers appear to be vying for leading explanation: one, nothing, and these owners are freaking morons, or two, Jay got 33 TDs and the number 10 offense with Dalton, who is the worst QB who ever has or ever will play the game, so he must be hellaawesome.

I'm going with one myself...

My guess is even if Gruden and/Zimmer leave you see minimal turnover in the coaching ranks. Coming off a division title I think they will prize continuity. There is a rumor that if Zimmer leaves he would take Gunther with him to be DC wherever he went. Maybe Gruden will take Zampese.

Neither of those scenarios add up, of course. #1 is purely facetious. #2 is predicated on Jay actively throwing Dalton under the bus in interviews, which is highly unlikely. I guess it's possible that he is just a great interviewer -- and his last name gives him some extra cred.

Is there some dumbass website out there that evaluates coaches performances? Because to this layperson's eyes it's hard to see what Gruden has going for him as a HC candidate.

From the Washington Post. Funny comment in the comments section. "Was RGIII at dinner with Gruden? No? Then there's obviously no immenent deal."

PFT thinks Gruden's agent is behind all the chatter. That makes more sense than anything else I've heard.

While it’s bad form to speculate on sources (as if that’s ever stopped me), it’s impossible not to at least wonder whether noted puppet master Bob LaMonte is leaking information that reflects knowledge of the perceived preferences of Washington and Gruden. We’ve consistently heard chatter in league circles that, of all his coaching clients, LaMonte’s top priority for the current hiring cycle is to place Jay Gruden in a head-coaching job.

Without Gruden Andy will have lost his most important supporter. Those two have been conjoined at the hip. Marvin will probably want to stick with him, but intra-organizational grumbles for a change would probably be more audible too.

...Trade Dalton for RG3? we are missing one thing on this team a diva....
