Eifert / Nervous Thread

I just can't help but feel haunted by the ghosts of Christmas past. Specifically 2006. The loss in Den. Basically they just had to win 1 game out of last 3 to make playoffs and went 0-3. This week we see what our beloved Dalton led Bengals are all about.

I will say this. It's not like the Bengals have folded. They've won the last 3 of 4. The Ravens have won 4 in a row. Three of those wins were by a combined total of 7 points.

2006 was a meltdown. I'll wait until this Sunday to give me a better feel on how this is shaping up/destructing.

I understand stats. I also understand that stats do not always portray an accurate picture of what happened. This team was down 30-7 in the third quarter. They were pushed around on both sides of the ball, the defense was at the mercy of what Pitt dictated, they were squarely punched in the mouth. It was an embarrassing loss. Period. Stats are just window dressing to cover up the ass kicking that took place.

No they aren't, no it wasn't and yes, the stats are accurate in this case. Your 30-7 game is 16-14 in the fourth if the Bengals don't blow it on teams. Period. But obviously we aren't going to agree.

I hear you. I hope this weekend puts any doubt that this past game was a fluke to rest.

It took Gresham a while to become a consistent threat.

Wow, when did that happen ??

He's a consistent threat now....... to drop the ball.

He's consistently inconsistent.

Look, Gresham has all the ability in the world. He just doesn't do much with it.

I hate seeing him get all fired up about carrying a guy 4 yards downfield and then drop the next 2-3 passes thrown his way.

For those saying he's great because he went to the probowl, ask yourself who was supposed to go but couldn't because they were in the Super Bowl ??

If he were to take things on his shoulders and be consistent, I would have less of an issue with him.

Now, he just pissed me off throughout the game. Flash then nothing.

Gresh is in the same boat as Justin Smith. If either of them had been a second or third round pick, we'd be fine with them. But they were first rounders so the expectation is elite play.

IMO half of Jermaine's problem is 90% mental. He's a good blocker...when he wants to be. He's a dominant passing threat...when he wants to be. He's tough to bring down...when he wants to be. There was that game not long ago when someone on the other side pissed him off early on and he played like a man possessed. But then you have games like the playoff game last year when he screws up royally at the start and never gets his head in the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if better coaching helped. But at the end of the day it's up to him to get his mind set before kickoff, and that's just something he hasn't shown an ability to do.

I see Gresham as a serious threat. The offense just runs a lot better when he's in there. And he is a matchup nightmare for defenses when we are in a passing formation. I have forgiven him for the playoff game last year. It's not his fault Chucky's brother put all his eggs in one basket then made no adjustments after Gresham clearly showed he couldn't do jack shet.

I see Gresham as a serious threat.

To who ?? Store clerks ?? Children with balloon animals ??

It sure hasn't been on the football field.

While he may be viewed that way in regards to him having that type of ability, he rarely displays it.

If he does, it's only every here or there.

He just doesn't seem to have the drive to be that dominant TE I think he's capable of being.

Maybe he needs more coaching, maybe it is 90% mental as Hoosier stated.

Whatever it is, it's not enough.

The Justin Smith comparison is a good one. Look how well he's performed since he left. Did he play bad when he was here? I don't think so. I think part of Gresh's problems an Andy's as well can be blamed on the offense's overall problems.

we are young as an offense have an unexperienced OC and have improved in each year. The more we can keep them together and add a piece or 2 through the draft the better we will become

Gresham is the most frustrating player they have. All his flaws are correctable...yet they never get fixed. I have to point to coaching.

Lap made a very interesting point yesterday about Gresham after the fumble. Of all people, having him fumble early in the game was not good because of all the offensive players, he has the toughest time shaking off his mistakes! He lets them eat at him, and affects his play during the game! That, in and of itself, can be a big problem!

I get the comparison to Justin Smith, but it's not quite there for me.

While he played well here, he was in a 4-3 set and when he went to the 49er's and their 3-4 set, he exploded.

Gresham on the other hand just can't seem to get things out of his head and is inconsistent.

Nice to see the TD after the fumble, but good God.

I think a prime example of Gresh's importance was our poor offensive showing in Baltimore when he was hurt. We need Gresh. We need him to be more consistent, but he will be missed if we cant resign him next year. I bet 90% of the league would be happy if he was on there team

He's signed through next year. We don't need to make a decision on him until 2015
