Smith, was he worth signing?

So, here we are, training camp. There was a great deal of discussions about Andre Smith the past few months. I didn’t like the fact that he missed OTA’s and minicamp for personal reasons. A lot of people on here didn't think it was a big deal that he missed the time. Now it’s being reported that he is limited due to an injury. I am not impressed at all!

Yep, just another fatass moment in Big Dre's sorry ass career.

What's that ?? He reported only 7 pounds over his playing weight from the end of last season ??

Oh, but you must be forgetting about that time he ran the 40 without his shirt on.

I mean really, what was he thinking ??

As I recall they didn't give him any guaranteed money. I think it was a good contract for the team. I'm not thrilled with what's transpired since he was signed but at this point there's nothing lost in re-signing him. I think he'll be our starting RT again this year. If he does blow up then you cut him and at worst you're out one yr's salary. NFL teams take risks like that all the time

He said he will be back Sunday personal issues are behind him

Fat boy didn't practice again

I heard elsewhere he had been cleared to practice

Just getting tired of the excuses from him, particularly after he signs a fat contract

Often times

Hasn't Shown Up For OTAs or Spring Workouts = Injury In Training Camp. I hope Andre avoids getting nicked. If he does, our tackles could really shine. If he gets hurt then takes five games to play himself into shape, then I'm pissed.

The Bengals sat many of their o-line starters yesterday, not just Smith. For all the agita over Gilligan, let's not forget both Whit and Boling are coming off knee procedures. There is, unfortunately, a lot of opportunity for injury issues to crop up here and they aren't limited to Smith. I'm not panicking about it, but I am keeping an eye on the line.

Leaving the issue of his bad calf, and his missing OTA/mini-camp alone, this myth that he signed a fat contract is silly.

His new contract pays him less per year than his rookie deal.

Is it "fat", compared to us desk jockeys...? Yes.

Is it "fat", compared to what he has made before....? No.

What ?? Whit and Boling sitting out ??

F*cking slackers...

*grin*

Its more about the overall pattern of behavior

You dont see them consistently sitting out

You dont see them consistently showing up for camp injured and/or out of shape

You dont see them failing to report for mandatorys

As far as I am concerned, he made his bed, and he can certainly sleep in it

What bed ?? Everything that has happened has been blown out of proportion by both the media and the fans.

The team (while liking it or not) was aware of the "personal issues" he had and Smith was fined appropriately for missing the time.

There wasn't any bad feelings from it or anything else.

Smith was in great shape when he signed his extension and even after missing the OTA's and minicamp, reported only 7 pounds over his playing weight at the end of last season. Everything reported seemed to be confirmed that he was staying in shape even though he wasn't here for OTA's.

He was held back due to a calf injury and is back at practice.

People seem to relate this calf problem with being overweight and lazy.

People just can't let go of that shirtless 40.
