Smith trucked Dunlap

I watched it, but if you watch the other drills, the defender normally gets handled in this drill.

Having said that, if I had to pick a guy who is just not made physically and mentally to perform in the Oklahoma drill it would be Dunlap. That's not really his game, and it's great to see Smith run someone over. It would be so great to see him have a dominant season.

If Smith improves yet again this year and gets close to being the dominant blocker he was coming out of college, the rushing game should be much, MUCH improved considering the other additions to the o-line. It might not be evident right now, but when the season kicks off, I think people are going to be surprised.

Since this thread concerns training camp I thought I'd put my thoughts here

I went down last night and here are a few of my observations:

1) Roderick Muckelroy was "into it". He pancaked Cedric Peerman in a drill and was very active. That's good to see because we may need him at MLB this year. Conversely, although it may be my imagination but Vontaze Burfict did not seem like he was into it. He seemed detached, kinda hanging out by himself in between plays

2) Jordan Shipley was practicing so he is officially off PUP

3) Taylor Mays was dressed in pads and all but just stood on the sidelines. I don't know what his issue was but this won't sit well with Marvin

4) Dalton and AJ Green connected on several tightly contested passes. Dare I say they're in mid season form

5) Sanu looked smooth and athletic, not the slow poke some worried he'd be

6) Concessions were flowing in the stands and in the aisles just like a real game. "Cold beer here" could be heard. Prices were "real game" too at $7.75/beer.

7) They had nicely printed rosters available for free

8) Don't bother paying $10/parking unless you bring your parents. Otherwise park on third st and walk a few blocks. It's good for you

Interesting. Brennen Warner was at training camp a few days ago and tweeted:

I'd put money down that someone will try to fight Vontaze Burfict by the end of camp. aggressive style of play doesn't make many friends.

Sounds like he's inconsistent.

Jordan Shipley was practicing so he is officially off PUP

I'm starting to doubt Shipley makes the final roster... and wondering if they should have left him on PUP. Gruden hasn't had encouraging things to say about him. Hopefully he gets healthy... but Andrew Hawkins will gladly take his roster spot if Shipley isn't ready to go.

With the usual caveats (it's practice, first week, training camp, etc.), the early reviews on Mays have been consistent with his rep coming in: a pure SS type who sucks in coverage. He has shown great straight-line speed but he changes direction like a battleship.

In other news, Ghee apparently hurt his hand yesterday...hopefully nothing serious.

CBS reported that Hawkins is running as the #1 slot WR during the no-huddle ahead of Jordan Shipley.

Still plenty of time for him to get healthy, but Shipley is looking like more and more of a longshot to be the guy we all want him to be.

Ghee could hurt himself in a windowless room with walls of pillows.

I think you are going out on a limb there. I cant see Shipley getting cut. He was rock solid when healthy. I had zero thoughts of him getting cut until mentioned here.

Hawkins is quick.idk. Id be surprised if Ship was given the axe.

The whole Shipley thing is just weird. There's an irresolution/douchebag element to his treatment that smacks of the "old" Bengals. I mean, first the guy comes in at the start of camp saying he's ready to go. Despite this, the PUP him anyhow. Then a week later they clear him to practice...at which time they immediately start knocking him. WTF? Something is going on behind the scenes we aren't seeing.

From the sound of this, I think Geathers could be PUP'd:

Left end Robert Geathers, who has yet to practice, underwent arthroscopic knee surgery Friday "to get his knee cleaned out," Lewis said, and Lewis think he'll be ready for the regular-season opener.

My concern with Dunlap has always been his work ethic in the weight room - needs to build strength, but doesn't look like he's put on much, if any, muscle, just relies on his natural size and athletic ability, you can get away with that in college, not in the NFL. I understand speed/athleticism is his thing, but his injury problems concern me if he's not going to bulk-up some in order to avoid injury. Here's to hoping he can stay healthy.

How about the obvious rather than one of your well-worn conspiracy theories?

How surprising is it that the player may say he's ready, but he really isn't? At least not enough to really challenge for a spot on a crowded WR roster scrum?
