ArmyBengal
This one really doesn't surprise, as they have said he had been running pretty much full go and catching passes for more than the past month. The talk of the PUP was a bit premature.Hall on the other hand...... volcom69
Awesome! The WR position is going to be fun to watch this year.
ArmyBengal
Honestly, I don't see much to say about Shipley except, if he's healthy, he's the closest thing to a lock after Green. Now whether he mans the #2 spot or not is in question, but the way they move the WR's around in the formation, I don't think it really matters.Healthy Shipley = lock. Stripes
Agreed Army, Shipley's in. There's no way he gets away from the Bengals after his rookie production, especially considering his ability to return punts.
BengalPimp
A healthy Shipley makes me a lot less concerned about the WR position......
ArmyBengal
While there is certainly reason to have some concern at the WR spot, I am beyond excited to see these guys in Gruden's offense. Shipley was a guy that was just huge his rookie season and if they can get him back healthy (which apparently he is) things will look very nice moving forward. skyline
Now if only we could get an update on Hall.....Everything we've seen so far has said that he's on track to be ready. But yeah...I'd love more details on the level of work he's currently able to do.
derekshank
Now if only we could get an update on Hall.....Everything we've seen so far has said that he's on track to be ready. But yeah...I'd love more details on the level of work he's currently able to do.They've been relatively tight lipped about the whole thing... but back in November when the surgery was done, we were told that "the tear was in a spot that should help along the healing process."We were told occasionally that Hall was "ahead of schedule" and "making progress" but the most promising note was that Hall was On The Field, Doing Drills in early March. That was only 3.5 months after the surgery... and appears to be evidence that he truly is ahead of schedule.I've read that average full recovery is 9-11 months... but Hall is a professional athlete under strict professional rehabilitation supervision. When things go forward without complications, they tend to progress faster than the average person. For reference, Elton Brand tore his Achilles in August of 2007. He was practicing with the team again 5 months later, and was cleared to play in games again in April 2008 (8 months after the surgery). Demaryius Thomas tore his achilles in February of 2011, and was back playing games in October - just 8 months later.Compare that to a guy I know of who pushed himself too hard by going snow boarding 5 months after surgery. He didn't re-injure it, but he lost a month of rehab because he was in pain from overdoing it. Even still, he was back playing competitive sand volleyball with the same strength and intensity as before the injury just 10 months after his surgery. I see no reason to expect Hall will rehab any slower than this... meaning he should be ready for the start of the season. It would not be a surprise to see him participating in training camp at the end of July (more than 8 months after the surgery). I also don't expect him to start the season on the PUP list. By the time he would be eligible to move to the active roster, it will have been over 11 months (more than the average time of recovery) and the Monday night game against the Ravens to start the season will be roughly the 10-month mark. If things are going as well as are being reported, that's more than enough time.

ArmyBengal
People forget Shipley and Gresham led the league in rookie receptions that year with 52 apiece.

combatbengal
I jumped for joy when we selected shipley! He catches everything thrown at him. Last season I cringed when Dalton threw to Simpson because he dropped so many balls. Glad to see him gone and ever happier to see the talent that we have now at WR! Excited about this upcoming season. On another note, the Pats don’t want to give Welker a big deal, I’d love to see him land with us. Yea I know that’ll never happen! Yeah for every Simpson Circus Catch the Vikings fans will drool over... they'll have to deal with 2 or 3 head scratching plays. Dude has a ton of ability - but just isn't that good of a football player.

Indeed and Shipley was a 3# not bad for a rookie

Indeed and Shipley was a 3# not bad for a rookie There are two people that also make me feel ok about who the #2 WR may or not be and neither play WR.Gresham and Charles...Gresham, looking to improve after his pro bowl season and Charles are going to up the amount of 2 TE sets we see this season.Between the two, passes can just as easily head their way and create mad matchup problems for defenses. They are an equal reason why (with the talent we have) that i'm not as concerned about who our #2 WR is.
