I just like his name. "Marvin Jones". He sounds like a middleweight. As in, "Marvin Jones, the no. 3 WBC contender, has the handspeed to give Morales a good fight in Atlantic City in July. But his chin is a question mark, as journeyman Terry Fitzgerald knocked him down in a 7 round no decision last December."

I pray this guy can (and will) return kicks

Otherwise, not too pleased with this pick

Great value pick. 2nd round talent by most scouting reports. I don't get the complaints. He definitely fits our system as well.

Sanu and Jones..... Damn. This kicks ass.

He had 3 freshman QB's in three years, so his talent was never exposed. With Dalton, Sanu and especially Jones are HUGE boost to the WR's. Anyone who is questioning is speed will be SHOCKED. I saw Cal games and this guy flys. He ran 4.36 at his pro day. He has PLENTY of speed. 6'2" 200. He is very similar to Robert Meachum or Hakeen Nicks. Perfect for this team.

Now do we begin the premature debating about which WRs will make the team? Well I want to. :P

These guys are locks, IMO:

Green

Shipley

Sanu

Hawkins

Beyond that, my favorites to make the roster are:

Jones

Binns

That'd make for three outside threats (Green, Jones, Binns) and three slot/possession types (Shipley, Sanu, Hawkins).

Whalen is the most capable otherwise. Bye bye Tate.

Well, if it's a question of "Who makes the team" that's much easier than predicting "Where" they will play within the system.

Green

Sanu

Hawkins

Jones

Shipley

I think the real challenge comes for competing for the inactive WR spot at #6.

Whalen and Binns will be the two vying for that spot unless Shipley doesn't make it back.

I fully expect Shipley to be ready though.

I like Shipley's moxie but I worry about his ability to take a hit and hang on to the ball. Unfortunately it happened a few times at critical moments most notably at the goal line vs the Steelers. I hope he comes back healthy but if one of these new guys beat him out, I'm OK with that.

I dont necessarily disagree - but at some point in the coaches conversation about this very topic, if Tate is gone -- who returns kickoffs?

In an attempt to answer my own question: Bernard, perhaps?

Just watched this kids highlights and was underwhelmed. He doesnt show anything special, solid backup with potential. I believe this is an insurance pick for Shipley being injury prone.

Also checked out Sanu's highlights, he looks to have great hands and very good body control. His physical play, especially in the middle of the field, will be a great addition opposite Green. Looks like he should be more consistent than Simpson ever was.

This was some great draft, as a long time Bengal fan it gives me a weird feeling of doom to see so much going in the right direction for my favorite team. I am trying my best to not let that temper my unabashed joy for what this team can do in the next few seasons.

WHO-DEY!!!

RBB, I think it's hard to say the guy is underwhelming, but opinions are opinions and i'm not bashing.

These are the things that stand out to me in regards to Jones:

Nice hands.

Polished route runner.

Better than average blocker.

GREAT inconsistency at the QB spot during his time there.

I'm absolutely stoked about getting Jones and getting him where we did.

Reedy seems to think Jones will start opposite of Green this year. Will be interesting to see what happens.

I'm not upset with the pick, very good pick for where they got him. I dont see him in the running for the #2 WR spot, unless there is some injuries though.

I could see Jones #2 and Sanu in the slot. Especially if Shipley starts on PUP.

Jones has the speed for an outside receiver and everyone seems to see Sanu as a physical possession guy that's not afraid to run through the middle.

If Shipley goes PUP'd you really think Jones is going to beat out Binns for the No.2 ???

People are quick to PUP Shipley, but if i'm betting a large amont of money on it, Shipley is ready to go come camps.

He's already been running routes and catching passes and is said to look good in doing so.

Not exactly PUP line of though, but you never know.

I think Jones and Binns will be a nice battle, with each having an opportunity, but Jones isn't going anywhere.

I have no idea, but I'd be willing to bet yes. Either way, that's what camp is for! Can't wait...
