Kazkal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Well, you all know - I have made it clear enough, right? - I love me some linemanAnd I like this guy, I do....good value for a late 3: http://www.draftcountdown.com/ScoutingReports/DT/Brandon-Thompson.phpbut, uhm.......it all starts need, and we already got our DT in r2.This pick needed to be a pass rushing DE, S, or (worst case) a RBSo.....I like the guy, but I DO NOT like the pickIf that makes Bye Pat Sims. Man, Bengals are taking this stick-to-the-board thing seriously. Also, you gimme-a-lineman types must never talk again.Err.....we still need that DE, dudeWell Hopefully with DT being a Strength now(hopefully) It helps our Defensive Ends because we do have people who are known for Pass Rush (Carlos Dunlap) And ones that are supposed to be (Michael Johnson) Plus Dontay Moch can always put his hand on the ground on 3rd downs. Stripes Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I admit my initial reaction to this one was a rather loud "HUH?".It didn't take me long to rationalize it though. The defensive line depth is clearly the Bengals' biggest strength, and I am always a supporter of teams sticking to their identity and securing awesome talent when it's there to be taken. Pat Sims is probably gone next year, and now there are TWO capable replacements. At least one of them is going to be good, and both of them are capable of it. I can't freaking wait to see this defensive line rotation in action.Amobi Okoye? Who needs him? Quote
BengalszoneBilly Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Well they saw the Browns get Richardson so they want to beef up the d-line lol. This! Quote
volcom69 Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Love Marvin Lewis comments, when he said we just got bigger and more physical, and physical wins playoff games i love it. Im not sure Pat Sims goes anywhere, i can see these rotating alot, to keep these guys really fresh. Quote
Kazkal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 i don't think sims parts ways this year... coaching staff is too high on him. how is his rehab coming? maybe this somehow spells the end to robert geathers??Well they could keep 9 Defensive Linemen....As for Geathers I Don't see how it effects him being both of these guys are True DT's...Only way Jumpy jr is gone if Harvey & Anderson show their first round talent...PS,Being we Have five Big nasty Defensive Tackles can our Ends Stop ballooning up and concentrate on rushing the passer...Does this mean the era of the ELephant End isover? TJJackson Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 They can only keep 8 or 9 Dlineman, and you need a even mix of DTs and DEs1 Dunlap2 Geno3 Peko4 Johnson5 Sims6 Geathersto this point, you have 3 DTs and 3 DEsThen you have 2 - perhaps 3, but probably just 2 - spots to fit in the following, and at least 1 must be a DE and at least 1 must be a DTDE Jamaal AndersonDE Derrick HarveyDT Devon Still DT Brandon ThompsonDT Nick Haydenso one of the FAs has to stickand then only one of the draft picks can stickto me, thats a waste - especially with being taken so highIs one of these guys able to play all the DL spots? Or at least play DE on obvious running downs? If so, I've missed it. Quote

wpeldios Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Maybe one of them is thought to play the elephant DE they love so much ??Still can be very effective as the Elephant de on rushing plays. He was used some out of this role, and some teams actually scouted him as a 3-4 de instead of nt. Quote
wpeldios Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 as for this pick, it is good value, and I do like building up the line. Our dl depth will be great. I wanted polk, but I wont complain here. Quote
Kazkal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 I figure Still would be the one they'd use as Elephant End being he has frame of a Large very large DE at 6'5 305 vs Thompson 6'2 315... Quote

ArmyBengal Posted April 28, 2012 Author Report Posted April 28, 2012 We need more LB's for a lot of things.Anyway, I still can get behind this pick... Quote

wpeldios Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 This is the worst pick they have made in this draft for me, and I give it a solid B-. So thats saying something about this draft. Quote

HoosierCat Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Perhaps this is finally the exit for the way overrated Geathers? I wonder what his cap number is for 2012?$4.2 million. And it's 100% salary; all his bonus has been accounted for. So if he gets cut the Bengals save $4.2 million vs. the cap. Quote

HoosierCat Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Thats gonna suck, he just bought a house in florence. He's grossed something like $29 million since 2007. I doubt he's hurting. Quote

Kazkal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Even if hes only seen five million hes still sitting pretty unless he was a retard with his money Quote
membengal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 Marvin and Zim are not wrong, this team got run over when it mattered last year. Foster abused them in the playoff game. Rice in that "must win" in game 17 same. This fixes that in a large way. On top of that...the Giants have won two Super Bowls in the last five years drafting D-line after D-line, even when it appeared they didn't have to, because it is REALLY hard to have too much talent at that spot.I think it is Sims who is immediately bubbled off of this, not Geathers. As for the pick, like Still, the guy looks like a monster and represents HUGE value there. I am going to have a real hard time banging it given the above facts. It's just that this approach is SO unusual for the Bengals in that it doesn't represent a reach for "need" with a player of questionable background that, well, I don't have a frame of reference for it. I find myself weirded out in a good way. Quote
membengal Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 As for our worry over RB...it could be the Bengals are chill with BJE, Scott, Leonard and Peerman. I would prefer an upgrade on Scott, but perhaps the coaches are well aware that it was really the line that murdered his effectiveness last year...particularly guard play. And they have aggressively dealt with upgrading that spot. So their thesis may be that they are set there. Also, the RBs we have been talking about are still out there, and the Bengals may think they can still get one of them today, while having crushed the last few picks in terms of value. Quote
derekshank Posted April 28, 2012 Report Posted April 28, 2012 The interior D-Line is going to be very deep and very talented. So it's hard to complain about. That said, I hope MJ improves and Dunlap stays healthy, because the Bengals don't have much else in terms of edge rushers. Quote
