Carson Palmer Thread

Palmer had an epic season on the mulch play area of Bambi Land Daycare in Encino. At the end of the year they had a big showdown with the kids from Caterpillar Clubhouse in Pomona. Palmer kicked ass as usual, but was a good sport about it.

I looked on YouTube but couldn't find it. :(

My dream scenario is:

Bengals trade Palmer for someones 2012 first round pick.

Bengals sign some journeyman veteran to get them through next year (is Kitna still under contract to Dallas?)

Pray that whoever gets the first pick in 2012 already has a QB and the Bengals use both first round picks and whatever else it takes to draft Andrew Luck.

I don't like any of this years QB's at 4. If you can't get Luck you can probably get someone just as good as any of this years QB class.

SERIOUSLY GUYS ???????

You'll gladly get rid of Palmer and hope that in the 2nd Rd you draft.......wait for it........Christian Ponder???? I take it most of you are neither Florida State fans nor have seen him play very much (maybe you blinked and missed his short performance in the Bowl Game vs.S.Carolina, you know the 1 for 5 and whopping 6 yards). This guy was a disappointment at FSU and was nothing more than AVERAGE (if that). This is the same QB who in his 3 seasons as a starter threw for 14, 14, and 20 TD's.....AWESOME.....This is also the guy who in 11 games as a Starter this season, passed for over 200 yards.....wait for it.......a Whopping 3 Times.....That's right 3 games over 200 yards (with a high of only 264) and 8 GAMES with less than 200 yards.....Well, sh*t then the way everybody's talking about him he must run well, right? WRONG, try 180 yards on 100 carries or 1.8 avg.

SERIOUSLY?????

YOU GUYS WANT TO WASTE A 2ND RD PICK ON CHRISTIAN PONDER???

F*CK THAT, Give me Rahim Moore at Safety, or Daniel Thomas at RB(The guy I think will be the best RB out of this class), or give me a DT, O-Lineman, or another need, NOT A PIECE OF SH*T QB.

CARSON ISN'T GOING ANYWHERE......WRITE THAT SH*T DOWN !!!

It's on now....

"I will never set foot in Paul Brown Stadium again," is how he put it to one confidant.

A couple of points.

First, none of the most recent remarks said to be uttered by Palmer have actually been uttered by Palmer. Rather, they're all attributed to Palmer by some unnamed confidant, family friend, landscaper, or realtor.

Second, none of the remarks in question actually sound like something Palmer might say....especially the most recent remark about having 80 million dollars in the bank or never stepping foot in PBS again.

Frankly, I don't doubt Palmer has asked to be traded, but until I hear Palmer actually say something even remotely close to the things others are saying for him I'm going to assume all of this is just a bunch of crap that's been offered in his behalf by people who aren't standing in the same room.

Easy there killer.

Ponder isn't anyone's first choice here. But he wouldn't be a bad option in the 2nd round. Although I admit his durability issues are a major concern... (The unimpressive numbers were mostly due to lack of time on the field).

That said, he played in a pro-style offense, is a natural leader, is one of the most intelligent players in the draft, and is a good fit for the WC offense.

He's also currently projected by many to be the 3rd QB taken in this draft, so you probably don't need to worry. There's a real chance he won't be there for the Bengals 2nd round pick, as he was reportedly the most impressive QB at the combine.

Hobson, in comments to this post.

When I talked to a GM at the Senior Bowl, he said he thought they could get a first-round pick for Palmer and I agree. Maybe even a two next year and a player. But a first-rounder at least and the Bengals shouldn’t settle for less.

But it’s not happening. Not now, anyway. There are no indications that Mike Brown has backed off his Jan. 24 statement: We’re not going to trade him.

The lines look to be drawn and both sides have been told very clearly what the other side wants. At the moment it appears Palmer is going to retire because the Bengals don’t look ready to deal.

It appeared in Janaury that Brown was hoping for a reconciliation and seems like he still does. He thinks a great deal of Palmer and what he has meant to the club and he doesn’t give up easily.

It was 1985, before youtube or videocameras. There's a diorama of it carved on a cavewall somewhere. And that exists only because some daycare supervisor had the foresight to say, "WRITE THAT s**t DOWN!!!"

Guess thats why Carson said he is never stepping foot in Paul Brown Stadium again. Sorry man, but Carson is not coming back and its time to get over him. This team needs a QB whether its in this draft or its a free agent, they need somebody. I mentioned Ponder because he ran the pro style offense, or maybe Andy Daulton. I still would like a free agent to come in here and run the show for a year or two depending on who they get. Im not thrilled with this year QB, but from what it sounds the Bengals will pick a QB this year anywhere from rd 1-4.

Agreed that it doesn't sound like something Carson would say but he's also not coming out and setting the record straight either so I have to think he's OK with these things being floated and possibly he's not man enough to say them in public so he throws them out in this manner.

I have no doubt that he wants out badly and eventually will get his wish but I can't rule out a scenario where he comes back for a 2011 because it's in both his and the Bengals best interests.

If this lockout goes down to the wire--in that it shortens training camp and/or the regular season--then Carson may see that he can't start for another team in 2011 and he may look at the 2011 schedule and see that he's got a chance to be the hero and lead the Bengals to a cheap playoff appearance. He also sees that the Bengals don't have bonafide offers for him. If he did that then he'd be in a much better position to call the shots a year from now. The Bengals may quietly tell him to suck it up for 2011 and then they'll see what they can get for him after the year.

I would have to think that if Carson is adamant in that someone has misquoted him and it's going to wreck his plans for 2011, he'd better come out quick and refute that.

If not, then the longer it stands the more I will take it for relatively the truth.

The quote from the unnamed Bengals front office person looks more like a poorly-conceived (tho well intended) smokescreen than the truth to me

First, there is no CBA, so there is no danger in saying the Bengals would listen to trade talk after a CBA -- and they could always "have a change of heart" when the CBA does eventually come together.

Second, it implies the Bengals will go QB at #4

Third, a team biting on this bait who want a QB that the Bengals appear to be interested in at 4 would be motivated to trade up with (or ahead of) the Bengals. Trading with the Bengals would be less costly than picking up the earlier (1, 2, or 3) picks, and ergo the more attractive option.

Finally, such a trade would earn the Bengals a trade down from 4, which would be good for them both financially and competitively.

The fact that Marvin "lit up" (and we all know he rarely if ever expresses any enthusiasm with the media for ANYTHING) when the subject of Cam Newton came up lends itself to this theory

That said, we've seen Son-of-a-Genius turn down absolutely golden trade down opportunities in the past, so even if another team takes the bait, I don't see the trade-down happening no matter how attractive the offer is. He's just too stubbornly stupid in sense of on-the-field matters.

1. Mike Brown himself admitted Palmer asked him for a trade - so I don't know why people are doubting he is.

2. The other attributed comments may or may not be true, but, where there's smoke, there's fire, and there's plenty of smoke.

3. I don't blame him a bit and he's the 3rd or 4th franchise player dating back to Pickens who wanted out of this miserable franchise, along with coaches, so it's not hard to believe

It's just the way things will always be here.

Like I said - It's just a matter of time until Palmer wants out... I said it back when I got blasted for supporting Ocho when he wanted out. These guys want to win, that's it. No talent wants to play here. Without Palmer and Ocho, this team is late 90's - early 2000's Bengals.

I'm mad as f**k about Palmer wanting out... Do I blame him? Nope. I'm mad at this city and mostly I'm pissed off at MB. He is the WORST owner in sports history.

I don't post much because I'm tired of the Bengals.... they depress me.

Boo Mike Brown

Boo Bratkowski (he should've been demoted to a scout or fired 3 years ago)

Boo Marvin Lewis for working for Mike Brown

.... and it's just the way things will always be here. Aint that the truth!?

This from Clark Judge:

11. A coach I trust told me Cincinnati will have no choice but to trade quarterback Carson Palmer. When I notified him that the Bengals weren't interested, he said, "Well, then, Carson will retire. He's that dead set against playing for that organization. This goes way back." And this guy should know.
