HairOnFire
For what it's worth, I'm still firmly in the camp that thinks Carson returns.I'm just not at a point that it should be demissed as fact though. Personally I think Palmer will eventually speak with and listen to Gruden and then decide to give a new system a chance, and hopefully that happens soon so the team can put some of it's fresher uncertainty behind it. But regardless, even in the best case scenario the Bengals the Bengals would be foolish to completely ignore the warning shot Palmer just fired. In fact, Carson's threat to retire shines an odd new light upon the Bengals unusual brother act at QB. If the Bengals do target a QB in the first 3 rounds of the draft, presumably a player good enough to challenge for the starting role in a year or two, if not instantly, imagine the implications this type of roster move would have on RunPee Palmer. The Bengals could very easily find themselves thrust into a position where they might have to make an instant judgement on the lesser Palmer. Kazkal
I disagree, I like LeFevoures' chances to become a good NFL QB better than Newtons. He has a better arm and more than 1 year of work at the college level, plus a year of experience in the NFL as a backup. I'd rather they spend the draft making the O-line better and giving LeFevoure a chance than wasting a pick on a high risk/high reward type QB.Thing is taking Newton wouldn't cost us a Olinemen because there is no Oline worth the 4th selection and the only way we are getting Newton is if we take him 4th overall so he'd cost us a Wide Receiver. If they were going to reach for a QB, it wouldn't be Newton. Mike Brown wouldn't want the risk of Akili Smith reincarnated. How is Newton Akili Smith reincarnate? I could have swore the akili reincarnates were Joey Harrington,Alex Smith and other QB's who were produced by that coach. As for people calling him Jamarcuss Russel is he 300lb slob who has no desire to play football?I don't think Marvin wants to rebuild with a 2 year deal. This offense makes sense, and should have been used all along. Doesn't this make sense?I don't think he does either,But he doesn't have much choice with offense being rebuilt & Carson threatening to retire...I wouldn't complain if we took Newton though I'd prefer we go QB later because we should still try get someone competent in the top half encase he wants to leave after this year. membengal
I'll take fairley if there, or the linebacker guy, or that beastly looking safety if there before wanting to see this team reach for newton. No reaching.
Kazkal
I'll take fairley if there, or the linebacker guy, or that beastly looking safety if there before wanting to see this team reach for newton. No reaching.I feel ya man Bowers,Green,Fairly or Peterson will be available and should be the pick even though DT & DE I feel should be a lower priority but if you have a chance blue chip talent you don't pass on it...But if Newtons name is called I won't be pissed and with the firing Brat I'd welcome it more then before...Because with Brat you have a guy trying jam the square peg in the triangle hole...But now with Gruden we have a young guy who I feel would actually try and utilize Cam's newtons Talents. Carson's beef isn't with the OC. It's with Mikie. He sees what we all see. As long as a man named Brown is in charge, the Bengals are going no where. If you win, these little petty things are easy to look past. When you lose. And lose. And lose. All of it builds up. These become magnified far beyond what they really are.Are these little anecdotes illustrative of the Bengals and their overall cheapness and Scrooge McDuck ways? Yes. Are these Palmer's primary reasons for wanting to leave. Prolly not.
ArmyBengal
So let me get this straight...People here are mad about a blog post made by someone no one here knows and makes a random blog post about what he heard from his brother, who played against an old coach that coached Carson almost 10 years ago ?? Those petty things are so d*mn stupid it's ridiculous.I know I wanted a larger refrigerator at my last job, but couldn't get one for the staff. I ended up doing some things myself and took care of my staff. It's what you do if you want to take care of things.I also hated my Commander, mostly because he was a drunk who only cared about himself, but I held a separate Christmas party away from the "official" one he put on each year in the local legion, so he could get sh*tfaced because I could involved family members and do the right thing by the staff who worked for me.Did those things make me want to leave the Army ?? No, I just acted like I knew I should. I can't honestly believe someone in his financial situation would really care that much. I always felt better about doing those things and bet he probably does as well. This sh*t is just comical. Can we at least wait until we hear something from Carson on this crap ?? BengalszoneBilly
Can we at least wait until we hear something from Carson on this crap ??We've heard from the man, and so far he isn't telling us anything different from his initial ground breaking statement. I feel the Gruden hiring doesn't mean beans to him at this point in his career. The bags are packed, and the wife is chomping at the bit to ride out of Cincinnati. PS,With that being said I'll back Carson if he comes back but I still want a somewhat mobile QB to develop LIke Aaron Rodgers and no it's not because they won the superbowl wanted one like him before the superbowl :>

HoosierCat
So everyone is simply taking everything this guy says as fact huh ??I'd put it this way: it wouldn't surprise me if it were. The organization has a long, storied history of pinching pennies that goes back to poppa Paul. And as Willy said, these are the kind of things you can overlook when you're winning, but that just add insult to injury when you're losing again and again. And yeah, it's easy to say, c'mon, this is BS, Carson's got $30 million+ in the bank, so paying for stuff like this himself is like you or me splurging for a Big Mac meal at McD's. But at the same time, it's also easy to see him saying, WTF, I've got $30 million in the bank, eff putting up with this penny-ante crap.

ArmyBengal
While there are points about this franchise I find absolutely believable, I can't envision any scenario where THESE things are the proverbial straw that has broken the camel's (Carson) back. I'll indulge some further and agree (if there's any truth) Carson is way off.
kingwilly
Just FYI, these coaches are in my backyard. My son's grade school feeds to SMHS, and these coaches, who I've been around, and the Palmer's are not overbearing-types who dump internet rumors at the drop of a hat. If it got to the internet, via a Palmer parent, to a respected and established coach, it is probably true. As for pettiness, it also may mean more, from an editorial standpoint, to the Palmer parents, than to Carson. I think it would be interesting to hear Carson's comments either when he retires, or if he is traded, as to what took place in Cincy. My feeling is he probably would not slag on the Brown's, and would only put up the classy front we have always known. And this is why i think he is serious about leaving, through retirement or trade. One company I worked for a while back decided at one point that its office supply expenses were too high, so among new policies it created was that each employee could only have one pen at a time. You could only get a new pen once your current pen ran dry and you had to turn that pen in in order to get a new pen. Of course, everyone just went out and spent a couple bucks on a package of Bics, no great financial hardship, but the fact we had to do it sent morale through the floor. volcom69
What worries me the most is that the Bengals are going to wait to long to hear from Carson, and they will have no plan at all. Call Carson now and find out if he still wants out, or if he will listen to what Gruden has to say. If he dosnt then, its time to move on. Call people trade Carson get him out of town, if he dosnt want to be here. Then its time to find the next QB! The bengals can not let one player decide there team, its time to move on.
