Jets pregame discussion

We have no secondary. None. Not to jump on the injuries bandwagon, but we lost Sunday in large part because we were one twisted ankle away from DB Quan Cosby or DB Jordan Shipley.

Our offense will be impotent against the Jets' D and Sanchez will be playing a live action version of Madden. If we hold him to fewer than 6 TD passes IMHO that's a moral victory.

We. Have No. Chance. At. All.

If the Bengals somehow win this game Marvin should be named coach of the year again.

This is exactly the kind of game the Bengals should lose, everyone will talk about how poor of a team they are, and then somehow, against all things reasonable, the planets will align and the cast of nothing will somehow beat the team that should destroy them.

That being said, I'm one of the ones talking about how poor they are and how they will get destroyed.

Bengals put it together and win a shootout. Because they shouldn't. Because a dead cat has gotta bounce...

Jets are not that great. Taken to the limit by Denver, Detroit, Cleveland and Houston. They have been amazingly LUCKY, not good.

Marvin should have been fired at halftime during the Bills game.

I'm guessing no explanation is needed.

Mike would have extended Marvin at halftime of the Bills game. After the game is another story. Well, maybe not. Maybe Mike would still extend Marvin after the collapse. Tough to say since everything at PBS is shrouded in a CIA-like cloak of secrecy.

Normally I would agree: this game has DCB written all over it. But we just lost the one decent piece of the defense, leaving us with no pass rush, no ability to cover...oh and we still can't stop the run. The Jets could put up 70 points tomorrow night.

I haven'ts posted here since last season. I wish this were under better circumstances. I sympathize with Bengals fans. This has been a miserable season that began with high expectations. Believe me, I know the feeling.

That said, I take real exception to the notion that the Jets are "lucky" and not good. I'm certain it is safe to assume that you don't watch the Jets week in and week out. The Jets get the opposing teams' best effort every single game. In the NFL, a lot of times teams play their "C" game. The Jets only see "A" games. This is due to their bravado and public "we're better than you" attitude. They invite it.

Luck is a crazy bounce such as the "immaculate reception." Or, perhaps, the opening day play at your stadium last year against Denver.

The Jets owe no apologies for collecting more talent than the opposition and finding ways to win in the end without their "A" game. In fact, the Jets are 8-2, IMO, having not played their best football yet. They still have several areas to improve upon.

The Denver game was fortunate at the end but it was a clear penalty. There is no dispute. Part of throwing deep in man coverage is the possibility of a PI call.

The Detroit game was hideously ugly. According to your definition of luck, one could say Detroit was lucky the Jets played horribly for 56 minutes that day. It was not luck, however, scoring 10 unanswered points in the final 4 minutes to send the game to OT nor was the drive to setup the game winning FG.

One could say Cleveland was lucky to be in that game because Nick Folk missed 3 FG's.

As for Houston, the Jets had a 23-7 lead in the 4th quarter. Most teams crumble after giving up a lead like that. The Jets have the confidence and resolve to drive 80 yard with less than a minute and no timeouts. That is NOT luck.

I could even mention the opening day loss to Baltimore based on the incorrect definition of luck. Baltimore was "lucky" that Braylon Edwards ran into the placekicker on a very short FG attempt, allowing a new series and a Ray Rice TD. Otherwise, maybe the Jets win that game 9-6.

NY has won 8 regular season road games in a row. Including last year's playoffs, 10 out of their last 11 road games. The Jets are not necessarily any better than the other upper echelon teams, but luck has nothing to do with where they are.

Funny thing is those teams you just mentioned are so much better then the bengals right now. Much better coaching, teams actully playing like teams, players not quiting on there coaches, coaches not quiting on there team. Man the Bengals are a mess, and i see another embarresing loss on Thanksgiving. So im just going to sit here and laugh, because its all i can do!

I have no problem whatsoever giving the Jets the respect they've earned. In fact, after watching them beat the Bengals in back-to-back games last season I'd have to say the Jet's are the team that almost single handidly ruined the Bengals by embarrassing them at their own game. They punked Palmer, owned Ocho, destroyed Opie, and flat out gashed the defense so badly that it's never recovered. It seems obvious now that everybody on the Bengals roster lost confidence, including a coaching staff that simply abandoned the very things that got them to the playoffs in the first place.

I think the Bengals have a good chance tonight. It's supposed to be 36 and raining, not good conditions for the passing game. This game will come down to who's the most physical and who makes the fewer mistakes. Both Cleveland and Houston were able to run on us fairly consistently. Teams are starting to realize that our strength against the run is up the middle, so they are running off tackle, sweeps, and reverses. I haven't watched the Bengals, but I know they can run the ball. This should be a close game unless the Bengals struggle to stop the run.

I am going to go out on a limb here.....

The Bengals will be in this game despite all of the following...

Palmer throws a pick or two..

TO gets scared...

Lewis wastes a time out or two...

One or 2 TD's gets called back by a penalty..

Braylon makes me want to punch him in the face..

Tomlinson keeps taking Shonne Greens carries (worst FFL pick ever in Green)...

Palmer throws several 4 yard passed when its 3rd and 8...

We miss a fg...

The secondary's ripped so there'll be plenty of 3rd and long's converted against the Bengals.

TO is playing well and perhaps Chad may have the game we and he desire to open up a variety of offencive options.

We need to run the ball and maintain possessing to limit the amount of time that the Jets O have on the field.

On paper this has the hallmark of a 70-0 humbling by the Jets - but I wipe my arse with paper and I'll go for the Bengals to put in some kind of half decent performance all things considered. 24-17 either way.

I think the Jets are more lucky than great.

@ Denver, more fortunate than lucky? c'mon. 4th and 8 and you get a deep PI call? sure, pure skill right there.

You keep citing it was the other teams that were lucky to still be in the game, spite the other teams being ahead at the end of the games... Huh?

Luck has everything to do with the wins against Denver, Detroit, Cleveland, and Houston.

I agree they are all wins, and lucky wins count as much as dominations, but let's not fool ourselves. The Jets are on an amazing run of lucky bounces/missed kicks, poor decisions by their opponents. They are the Bengals of last year.

When they run into a quality teams late in the year, like upcoming at NE and at Pittsburgh, we will see if their quality gets them past those two.

In many ways, I am rooting for the Jets. I think they did a great job grabbing Tomlinson and drafting Kyle Wilson. I think their handling of Sanchez has been done very smartly and they could challenge for the AFC crown. I think they are prone to being beat by a team who can pressure on Sanchez on 3rd down (1 for 11 against Baltimore, and 5 for 13 against the Lions, and 5 for 17 against Minny).

I think there are many things to like about the Jets and their progress. But lets not be too homered, they have won 4 very lucky games. Not to say they count any less, but luck played a very real part of each win, more so than in their other 4 wins.

Welcome to the Zone Jdub, but I can't remember a single game the Bengals were either the most physical OR made the fewer mistakes, let alone both of those things. You know they can run the ball, I know they can run the ball, sad to say that no one on the Bengals offense WANTS to run the ball. They are simply to busy forcing the ball to the WR douchesacks that I hope won't be here next year.

Again, welcome !!!

I think you misunderstood me. Perhaps, I didn't make my point clear enough. I am not saying the other teams were lucky at all. I was trying to show that luck has a totally different meaning than the way you use it. I was attempting to show how the wrong interpretation of luck can go both ways. It all depends on your point of view. NFL teams are all fairly close in talent and ability. Sure, some are clearly more talented than others but there is not a huge gap between a top team and a bottom dweller. Most games come down to just a few plays. This is not college football. There are no 20+ point favorites. The Jets are making those key plays in crunch time.
