Wraith
Getting a good middle threat at TE is imperitive. Gresham would be my top target going into the draft.
Ickey44
And it's ALWAYS Brat's fault.Ultimately, it really is. Well, technically it's ultimately Marvin's fault. He should be holding Brat accountable for the horrid performance of the offense in the second half of the year, though.
jonahdsage
Here's how I like to imagine the meeting went:Zimmer: I want at least a 3 year deal and I want at least 4 million a year. I want 20 million worth of budget to get free agents and I want either the 1st or 2nd round pick to go to the defense.Marvin: He gets what he wants or I'm leaving, too.Brown: Sounds good to me. Anything else I can do for you, gentlemen?I also see Zimmer being the next HC here if Marvin chooses to leave after next season. We have many of the pieces there for our offense and if our defense continues we'll be in every game we play next year. This is huge. ArmyBengal
It should be interesting to see how long of an extension Marvin is going to get and see if it coincides with Zimmers. If it does, maybe they are trying to build from within. At that point in time, you would have to think Zimmer would be the perfect fit if Marvin goes.

ShulaSteakhouse
Kudos to the Bengals for getting this done. Defense here desperately neded some continuity if nothing else. I also am not so sure his defense, despite injuries, bowled other people over the last 6 weeks, but I contend that had more to do with an offense that couldn't stay on the field and wore down that defense horribly by December, resulting in injuries and over-exposure to game planning against them. Now do something about the offense other than drafting a WR or TE on day one and little else. DC_Bengals_Fan
Fuxyeah!Start this offseason right. Now dump Bratkowski's body in the Ohio and we'll really be rolling.
mgi
CHEERS!!To balance out the good news, I am waitng for Graham's seven year extension. He is like the most accurate...ever!I have an uncomfortable feeling that Brat is staying. The "Offense under the Microscope" article at .com has Bratowski speaking about the future of his offense. It makes me shudder.
jjakq27
Why does everyone think Marvin is going to leave after next season? Also, kudos to the team and to Coach Zimmer for reaching an agreement. This is a critical juncture for this franchise and retaining him will allow the team to focus on rebuilding the offense and knowing that the defense is in his capable hands. Kazkal
Why does everyone think Marvin is going to leave after next season? I like him as couch,I just wouldn't be surprised if he wanted out after this season is all...Would be a great chance if he has another Winning season but at the same time a Gamble if the team does bad... I dont think I have heard anything that says he wants to leave.I very happy we kept Zimmer.Next is try and keep Benson here for more years than just one more. I want 3 but im sure he wants like 6.I will be very interested to see what our defense can do healthy with another year under our rookies belts.Lets get some more depth from the draft now and continue building. It awesome to think that we can now draft for depth and to challenge starters jobs. Never thought id see it.Im not one to look forward too many years but 2011 we will dominate...oh wait there will be a lockout. Reminds me of the last baseball strike when the reds were dominant. I like him as a Head Couch and isn't what I want,But If he has another Solid season I just wouldn't be surprised to take his chance to get out of town.Kaz - Im not sure I follow that sentence.lolBut would Marvin get a NFL coaching job after us? I think he would like to stay. Especially when we are starting to build a good team. Hes been here too long to miss this.

Look at all the starters who were lost completely or banged up:Williams, Rey, Odom, Peko, Tank, Crocker, and Geathers. I'm amazed they held up as well as they did. Pidge
Frigging great news. Maybe being a bit of a fuddy-duddy makes you an easy target for ridicule but it might also engender a family atmosphere to a franchise which maybe played a part in this deal happening (with a nice little raise of course) after the emotioanlly draining season the Zimmer family had this yr; because this decision was one taken by the entire Zimmer family methinks. cincyhokie
http://www.bengals.com/news/article-1/Bengals-welcome-back-Zimmer/1dbb17ca-dbe3-4329-8d51-4629ef0f45cc"Rookie SAM linebacker Rey Maualuga recalled Sunday’s emotional end-of-year meeting in which Zimmer told the defense not to believe any of the rumors, that he had not talked to any other teams, and if he came back it was only because of the people in that room. “He was pretty emotional,” Maualuga said. “That touched us. He said, ‘You guys keep in touch with me, text me.’ Then he just walked off. It was like, ‘Wow.’“They did a good job re-signing him,” Maualuga said. “I couldn’t imagine being coached by any another defensive coordinator. I know it’s only my first year, but the passion he brings and how he teaches, it’s beyond crazy. With his attitude and our defense’s attitude, it’s a match.”
Kazkal
Well with Zimmer Resign deffentily see Jjoe & Hall getting done no way Zimmer & Marvin will let them go ignored...Since whole thing before season were only as good as our corners. BlainThePain
I believe its bulls**t that he's a top candidate for a head coaching gig, as well. If he was such a good candidate he would have at least had some interviews already. I truly believe a lot of this s**t was cooked up by Mike Florio and Peter King to get him out of Cinci. Peter King was the first journalist I saw bring this up, and him and Florio pushed it a lot harder than everybody else.Don't get me wrong, I would be extremely happy for Zimmer if he got a head coaching job, but I think a lot of it was hype. I'm so happy that they got it done and resigned him.
