bwillycuse
My deepest and sincerest sympathies go to the Zimmers. My wife passed away a couple of years ago, aged 46, and so I know from first hand what a kick in the balls they've been dealt. Time doesn't heal, it just allows you to live with it. It puts football into perspective. Football is something we willingly place great importance in precisely because we're always aware of how ultimately unimportant it really is. It's just a game.Could never had said it better.
walzav29
This is a tad gay, but this Sunday my wife wanted me to go do something at 1pm and I was trying to weasel out of it for obvious reasons. After this, it really does put things in perspective. I'll DVR the game. Id imagine he takes at least 3 weeks off. Who fills in for him? Kazkal
Not to bring him into this thread for any other reason than to be able to relate, but lets hope the defense can react as a whole, the same way Favre reacted by losing his father. If not, it's the extreme opposite where the team has a letdown of epic proportions and honestly, neither would suprise me.I'd say Defense is going to be a scary sight on sunday with what Zimmer means to them and even his wife,How many Defensive Coordinators wifes make sure the players have snacks? Sad to see such nice person pass.

The way Mike lost his wife of 27 years just completely blindsided him and devastated him outta the blue! I believe Favre's father was sick and anticipated. HoosierCat
Stunning. I saw this news at work earlier today and I just wanted to vomit. I can only dimly imagine what Zim must be going through right now. I've been married for 20 years this year and if Jen were just...gone like that, well, I don't know what I would do. Though I'm sure it would include falling to pieces for a while. My thoughts are with him and his and Vikki's kids tonight.
volcom69
This has to be the most terrible news this team has had in awhile, and it really sucks that bad things happen to really good people. Just when things were starting to go pretty good with this team, something so terrible happens to one of them, and now i wonder how this team will come toghter and respond on the field. After something like this it has to be so hard to concentrate knowing one of your fellow partners, friends is hurting so bad. I just hope they come out and play within there hearts, and just play hard, and im sure Zimmer will be proud of them. At the end of the day like somebody else said its just football, just a game. This has to be some of worst news i have heard in so long. Sad day today!
ArmyBengal
Losing a wife, husband, mother, father, sister, or brother is devastating regardless of the situation. I've lost a mother and brother unexpectedly and at young ages (56 and 40). I'm simply saying it's not about one being tougher than the other, it's tough PERIOD... I'm just hoping the team rallies around Zimmer and his family, taking that to the field in a positive manner.

I'm sure you didn't mean any harm. Dealing with the loss of a loved one never gets easy, just more manageable. Army, I remember you telling us of your tragedy awhile back. Your story has not been forgotten as I'm sure the same is true for the memories of your brother and your mother. Best wishes to you and your family still.Situations like these make life much easier to put into perspective.

Once again, my point is that I simply hope the teams responds positively.I understood what you were saying Supa, so don't think twice about it...I really do think the defense is going to come out fired up for this game !!! ArmyBengal
Army, I remember you telling us of your tragedy awhile back. Your story has not been forgotten as I'm sure the same is true for the memories of your brother and your mother. Best wishes to you and your family still.Situations like these make life much easier to put into perspective. The odd thing in situations like these is you have people tell you, "Don't worry, it gets better in time". I don't think that's the case most of the time when the death is at a young age and/or sudden in nature. When there are birthdays, weddings, christmas, or anything that you would normally share with that person no longer there, it brings it all right back again and it's a very difficult thing. It is due to my feelings on this situation that I feel for not only Zim, but their children that will have big things happen in their future that they will no longer be able to share with their mother and his wife. My heart really does go out to them at this time.

She seemed like such a nice lady, and for such a good guy this is just terrible, terrible news.On a side note, (not that this matters right now) but apparently Zimmer will coach tomorrow. HairOnFire
Wow. I doubt I could do what Mike is doing now. I don't know if I could either, but I did just go through a somewhat comparable experience and I can tell you without hesitation the desire to focus on anything else for even a few moments is compelling. It's also true that a large faction of Zimmer's support base, the people who know and care for him the most, are Bengal coaches and players. Again, I don't know that I could do what Zimmer will attempt, but I think I understand why he needs to try.
