Zzzzzzzzz…huh…wha? Oh, right, football game. Well, they were overdue for a laugher. Still time to blow it tho. I have faith.

Looks like the Rams winning last night bumped NO’s strength of schedule .002 ahead of ours, so Bengals are back at 10 for the moment.

Round 5 (163): Chase Brown, RB, Illinois

Yeah, there’s definitely some “accident results in good event oh I meant to do that” stuff going on here. IIRC Chase and Yoshi both spent the offseason working on their pass game so that paid off. And Burrow has clearly gotten very comfortable with him. But at the end of the day the kid is making plays. Like you I have no complaints. -
Round 5 (163): Chase Brown, RB, Illinois

Amidst the wreckage of this season, let the record show that Chase Brown is hell on wheels and was an A++ pick. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/stat-of-the-jay-chase-brown-is-closing-in-on-a-bengals-record-held-by-a-player-whose-name-you-probably-can-t-guess-01jeyhxmysyq -
There’s no doubt injury is a big factor here. Tee bet on himself this year and crapped out. Instead of a big bounceback year, he now has two straight injury plagued seasons. He’s still a stud when he’s on the field, tho. Honestly, for the Bengals this is a perfect setup for how they prefer to do business. You give him a base of like 15 and then a 500k per game incentive. Or whatever exact numbers you want to plug in, you get the idea.

And for the hopeless: Cowboys (5-8) v Panthers (3-10): Cowboys. We're probably not going to out-suck Carolina so best if the boys get some wins now. Chiefs (12-1) v Clowns (3-10): likely won't out-suck the Cleveland either but rooting for Browns here. Jets (3-10) v Jags (3-10): Just don't tie! Commanders (8-5) v Saints (5-8): Go Aints. Pats (3-10) v Cards (6-7): let's get to .500 Cards. Bears (4-9) v Vikings (11-2): get da win Bears. Falcons (6-7) v Raiders (2-11): Atlanta needs to get to .500 too.

Update: apparently it’s a Dallas thing…flashback to 3 years ago…(nfl video so u have to watch on YouTube)

Follow-up to last night, results not good for Overshown: torn ACL, MCL and PCL. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/42893482/jerry-jones-demarvion-overshown-right-knee-surgery

Bengals were what, like 1-6 in one score games coming into last night? I think they were just overdue for something going their way.

Got a chuckle out of this.

A second tag would 120% of this year's number, so around $26 million. That's easily doable with the amount of cap space they have. Whether they would be willing to do that, and if so would Tee sit out, etc., who knows. As for a long-term deal, it's more realistic than you might expect just because the cap is projected to keep rising at fairly eye-popping rates, and honestly aside from Chase, they don't really have anyone else they need to back up the Brink's truck for. Orlando is signed through 2026. Mims they can't even think about until 2027 earliest. Trey is up after 2025. You could pay him but since he's 31 it will probably be like maybe a 3 year deal? The last few drafts haven't produced any standouts who will command a big payday (unfortunately!). I guess you could look to try to make some big splashes in FA. But as we saw that's year that's hit or miss. Yeah, Tee has issues staying on the field but at least we know what to expect there.

Yeah, I think we all expected this: Joe wants Tee back. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/nfl/bengals/2024/12/10/joe-burrow-bengals-tee-higgins-jamarr-chase-contract-negotiations/76878835007/ I don't know if the FO is willing to do long-term deals with both Tee and Chase, but it feels a lot more likely to me they tag Tee again now than it did to me three or four months ago.

I will give the defense this much credit: tackling was much, much improved last night. Even Geno Stone was routinely getting guys to the ground and he's been a missed tackle machine all year. Points-wise last night was their fourth-best outing this season and the first time they've held an opponent to under 24 points since week 7. It just sucks that this performance comes now, when as you correctly observed, it can only screw them in the draft.

Bengals look to continue screwing up their draft pick with a victory over Callahan’s Titans. Another W would probably drop them from 11 to around 14, I’d guess.

Credit where credit is due dep’t: shout out to Nick Vigil, who did his old team a solid tonight. TJ was right dep’t: muffed punt recovery was made by Njongmeta. More playing time please.

So I just went to watch Tom grossi’s reaction on YouTube and the algorithm suggested this incredibly appropriate video, from a Dallas point of view.

The most bengals win ever. Basically blocked their own punt to win.
