Divisional Weekend: Bengals @ Oilers

Since the media loves to bring up shit from when I was a preteen, I feel confident in saying we will win because last time we faced the Oilers in the playoffs we blew the pants off them. Surely 31 years later with different staff, teams and a whole different city and stadium things will go just like they did last time, right? Just because the last time we saw them was the same year I discovered porn existed is irrelevant!

Not surprised by this: (sorry if already shared somewhere)

Go behind the scenes of Joe Burrow's preparation to understand his confidence with Bengals:

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo gave Burrow the ultimate compliment comparing him to Tom Brady ahead of the Week 17 matchup.

“This may sound crazy, but I see a young Tom Brady,” Spagnuolo said. “This guy does everything. He does not look like a second-year quarterback that missed a lot of his first year, totally impressed with him.

Especially down the stretch Joe Burrow has been every bit as good as a top 3 QB.   I got to give credit to ZT too.    If you watch some of these all-22 QB review video done by former NFL QBs it really opens the eyes to how good Burrow is and well he is operating in the scheme.

Alot of stuff that goes beyond his impressive stats.

IMO, the best game he played was against Denver on the road.  He made two/three killer throws and had a couple killer scrambles and BAM!  Screw your tough defense Denver and home field advantage.....you are getting a loss.

Against the Raiders the throw to CJ mind blowing and the infamous whistle play just off the charts great, IMO.

Then mix that with Chase who is off the charts good already.

Small sample.

Eh, I dunno. 13 games, 4 starts, 1 short of trying his career high in tackles. It was his best year by far tho. 58.8 in 2021 on a far, far smaller sample. His career has basically been like that. 50 grades one season, high 70s the next, 60s after that etc. Seems like a decent backup who might have pushed to above average if he'd been able to find some stability but never managed to stick longer than 3 seasons with a team.

The Bengals' aren't going to be able to run the ball again I'm guessing.   Mixon also seems banged-up. Easily the most disappointing aspect of this team (the entire running game).   The o-line is just not good at RB (despite the good PP grades).

If the defense keeps them in it,  looks like more passing heroics willl be needed.  I don't know how long they can keep this up.

Raiders didn’t really slow them down playing coverage and rushing four.   Bengals did leave points on the field so that’s were you can point lack of run game.

We’ll see.

This is my major concern; we can't leave points on the field like that against better teams. Kansas City would have eaten us alive if we had played them like we played the Raiders. Mixon had a great year but yeah, he does not seem like he's at 100% right now!
