Otten to the PS - a chance to kick the tyres on the TE and see how he grasps the schemes before deciding to activate him ?? Or just more depth coverage in case Smith or Gresham get dinged ??

More depth than anything else I would think. Hobson doesn't think they will fill the spot but will leave it open for Lewis-Harris, who comes off suspension Monday.

Gotta be loving the early bye week now huh ??

In regards to Still, while I thought he had things to improve upon in dealing with injuries, I wouldn't rule out a pretty motivated dude.

This is all assuming he's even active, which i'm betting against.

OK, today's roster moves are:

Signed TE Kevin Brock to the active roster.

Placed TE Alex Smith on IR.

Waived TE Ryan Otten from the PS.

Signed OT/OG Emmett Cleary to the PS.

Still one slot open on the 53. They have until tomorrow to decide what to do with Lewis-Harris.

Cleary looks interesting - 6'7 320 and started all 48 games at Boston College, 3 years at RT and senior year at LT. Despite that, a 2015 UDCFA

I don't like that they haven't pulled in a DT with Thompson out for a while even though they can play some of the DEs (particularly Hunt) out of position as DT#4 in the 4 DT rotation

Regarding Still -- with only 3 DTs on the roster right now, I can't see any of them being inactive

Glad the Bengals' are taking care of him.

Lost in that story is the fact anyone has to go to such lengths in this country, to pay for a child's cancer treatment. No one should have to endure that, it's a double whammy.

Well said, couldn't agree more.

How else is he to pay for world class medical treatment for a rare and complex kind of cancer? Obamacare? If this were England or Canada, Still's daughter would probably be on some waiting list as her condition worsened. Lost in your comment is the fact that Still's little girl is getting the best possible medical treatment and its being paid for.

Hobs:

The Bengals are in the market for a backup linebacker.

It’s believed that Sean Porter, the club’s star-crossed third round pick from 2013, unbelievably tore his ACL on the first snap of his NFL career Sunday night in Foxboro in a crazy non-contact injury on the opening kickoff.

Porter missed his entire rookie year with a preseason shoulder injury and when he finally got to play the second preseason game of his career this August, he injured his hamstring and missed the first three games of this season before being active for the 43-17 loss to New England.

He arrived in the locker room Monday on crutches and in a full-length cast.

The Porter injury put a huge special teams load on backup linebacker Vincent Rey, already starting for injured Pro Bowl WILL backer Vontaze Burfict (concussion), as well as middle linebacker Rey Maualuga. Rey took 23 teams snaps as well as 91 percent of the scrimmage snaps and Maualuga played more than he usually does with 50 percent.

Now they’re looking for a seventh linebacker and most likely they’ll hold tryouts Tuesday.

Mr. Glass II to IR.

New LB is Khairi Fortt, a rookie picked up off waivers from the Saints.

Fort was a fourth rounder who got hurt and was on IR/return before getting let go yesterday.

Weird situation with Fortt. Per Mike Triplett (Saints espn writer) he checked with the league and there was no off field issue or anything with him.

Saints Report has a ten-page thread on the move here:

In there its alleged he got cut after missing four straight meetings.

I thought Cris Perry was making a come back.

Robinson replaced, via Hobs:

Lewis also said at his Wednesday news conference before practice that they had replaced center Trevor Robinson on the roster with guard-center Jeff Baca, a sixth-round pick of the Vikings out of UCLA in 2013.
