Mike Brown = Smart?

Here's a "Snap Judgement" from Don Banks at CNNsi . . .

"Said it before and I'll say it again: the Bengals' fab four of Carson Palmer, Chad Johnson, T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Rudi Johnson are rapidly rising to the ranks of the elite as a unit. How smart does Mike Brown look now (now there are some words that have rarely been written) for re-signing both Rudi Johnson and Houshmandzadeh this offseason?"

Love for Mike Brown from the national media? Has the day turned to night? Has hell freezed over? Are cats sleeping with dogs?

Lets be fair with Mike Brown. He got the blame when it goes bad, he deserves credit when it is going good. If a free agent DOESNT sign, he gets the bleme. If a player SIGNS or is drafted, he deserves some credit.

All right. :D

It just took a long while for all that business to work out in the black on the field. It's working like a charm now, eh? Unfreakingbelievable how good this team looks this year and the pieces sure seem in place at the motivational level to keep on winning.

The only smart thing he has done is take a back seat to other people....he remains the same dumbass he has always been

When a dumbass recognizes he is a dumbass and takes a step back and lets somebody smart run the show, he has then done something smart...so at worst you should call him a smartass

*laff*

You'll note that I did give him credit for that one thing...that he stepped back and let others take more control.

That's the only smart thing he has ever done.

Or is it MB has taken a backseat because he now has a coach he can trust to leave the player side too? Whatever way you shake it Shula, Coslet, & Le Beau weren't Marvin Lewis for whatever reason.

crdeit where it's due, when it's due.

When I saw this thread, I freaked out, Mike Brown is ALMOST the worst owner in the league. The only smart thing he has done is the hiring of Marvin Lewis, you can't deny the past 15 years and just now that he has started a season 2-0 shouldn't make him "smart".

Course, he stuck around Cincinnati rather than ripping the franchise away from the city, something you would not know about in Cleveland...

You guys are right Mike Brown does deserve some credit, just very little. 1ST move fire the guy that took you to the Super Bowl and hire Dave Shula. 2nd move fire Shula hire Bruce Coslet. 3rd move fire Coslet. The next move was the only smart move he ever made. He let Katie pick the next coach. Katie chose Marvin not Mike Brown. I think its hard to blame Brown for the bad draft choices when he was ,for the most part, letting the head coachs take who they wanted. You can blame him for the bad assistant coaches and hiring the coaches that picked those guys to begin with. You can blame Brown for not signing quality free agents. You do have to give him credit for re- signing the guys we have on the team now, but he also re- signed alot of bad players like Akili Smith,Reinard Wilson,Rod Jones, ect. All in all I give Marvin 97% of the credit Katie Blackburn 2 1/2% and Brown 1/2% of the credit. Marvin is the guy that has put this team togather. He is the one that got rid of the malcontents like Dillon. He is the guy that gets credit for one of the best assistant coaching staffs in the NFL. He is the guy running the draft room.

Mike Brown is smart for signing one of the best free agents in the league a few years ago---- Marvin Lewis.

The man knows how to run an organization and the citizens of Cincinnati should commend Mike Brown for such a great hire and let Marvin own this organization for a long time

I think it's a combination of Marvin Lewis being a strong coach along with Mike Brown realizing that he must let Marvin do his thing. However, Mikey's coming through, and he deserves some credit.

I agree with the comment about Mike and Marvin being a "combo." I won't go as far as saying Mike Brown is suddenly football smart, I will say he's gotten a bit smarter with the hiring of Marvin Lewis. Let's hope the trend continues.

I do, however, blame him for one thing.  I just farted, and it stank!

I just did the same, except I blame Taco Bell. fartface5lq.gif

He's made some good decisions and some bad decisions...ok, a lot of bad decisions. He's not trying to sabotage the team or anything. I give him credit for all of his decisions, good or bad.

Nice, still had 15 straight losing seasons, once again that was really good.

It's the only comeback I need until they finally record a winning season!

7 wins to go until that stupid statement is void!

It's not all that unprobable that we will be there by the bye week!
