HoosierCat Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 I think he does a really good job of creating questions about himself. Back in the prior era, we used to talk about whether in any given week we would get Good Andy or Bad Andy. With Burrow, it’s mostly Good Joe week in and week out, but Bad Joe seems to pop up for one or two plays a quarter or so. Bad Joe holds the ball too long and runs himself into trouble. Bad Joe locks in on one guy (usually Ja’marr) and misses open guys. Bad Joe doesn’t check his pre snap read post snap. Etc, etc. None of this fatal. Everyone makes mistakes. But it never seems to change from year to year, either, and it’s getting old. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 I have been saying for a couple seasons now that Burrow has commented about being in his head to start seasons. I think that is still the case from what we have seen. The throws just don't make sense as much any more. Early on when Burrow and the offense took the field, I was confident they were going to score more often than not. Now I have little confidence of that happening and sometimes just the opposite. If they are playing from behind late in a game? Forget about it. While having the ability and talent around him, I have more confidence in seeing an INT, fumble or just wasted opportunity. He's easily the best QB we've had in a very long time and I rather see him here than having to start over. Simply because much like developing players, we can't get that position right most of the time either. The post game conferences about getting better and getting back to practice Tuesday have become stale. I'd rather hear anything else at this point in time. My 15 year old can tell you what will be said in those meetings at this point. I don't think he's wrong in saying it's just one game, but losing games in this way hurts more than just the fact of losing. When battling for playoff seeding, losses like these will come back to haunt you. Hey Burrow, go look for Joe Brrrrr and have that guy make an appearance Sunday. Fucking love that guy. 1 Quote
gregcook69 Posted October 5 Report Posted October 5 Burrow had several 'off the mark' passes. One of the first ones I can remember was the first high one to Higgins. So un-Burrow like. Not even close! I remember when Dalton started high like that, he almost always had a bad day! Is there any point in time in yesterday's game where, if you were head coach, you would have given Flacco a shot for a series? Quote

volcom69 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Burrow will be fine, not worried about him at all. What needs to happen is go back and find your running game you had at the end of last season! Throw out play action for now it’s not working, hell your getting sacked on it! Quote
Stripes Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 He's probably the best quarterback in franchise history. Only Kenny has an argument otherwise, IMO. That doesn't mean he's perfect. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Agreed. Like I said, I don't want to have to think about the team NOT having him. He's still Joe Burrow and many teams would kill to have him. All that being said, just settle down Joe. Get yourself and the o-line right (pre-snap penalties) and work the run game. I saw yesterday where he said he wants to throw the ball more as that's when he's most comfortable. I suppose if you throw the ball enough, picks are inevitably going to happen. However, that's where coaching should step in and not let him shoot himself in the foot. Something tells me our coaches aren't that kind of coaches. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 We can ask all day about what we think about Joe as well, but the players are the ones that matter the most. While I don't see any of them being 100% blunt, I do like this response from Dexter when asked. https://www.youtube.com/shorts/3ykS8Mh2Q8Q He has that feeling I always use to have. I want it back. Thing is last year they sucked at running the ball, then at some point when back to the drawing board, and started figuring out the run game. They all of a sudden become one the best running teams last season. Thought for sure thsts what they were going to do this season, so far it is not. So go back and figure that shit out, and they will be fine. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 It just seems like that's NOT what Joe wants and why I was saying the coaches should interject and force some things. I don't want to take control out of Joe's hands based upon what he sees on the field, but when you are already passing 48 times a game, I don't think the answer to your offense concerns is throwing the ball around more. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Goodberry has a breakdown on his YouTube channel of their few running plays against Jax, and the tl;dr is that Mims sucks at run blocking and Risner’s playing on one leg. There were also one or two plays where the Jags were in a single high safety look pre snap and Joe didn’t audible to a pass (maybe thinking they would drop a second guy back). Anyhow see for yourself it’s not a long watch: Quote
volcom69 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Coaches just need to sit Joe down and tell him, look your still going to get your throws, but adding a run game will make things so much easier for you. It will add so much to this offense, and maybe play action will actually work. Find it funny how they figured it out last season, and somehow this season they have forgotten. Figure this shit out Zac! Quote
volcom69 Posted October 6 Report Posted October 6 Go Listen to Pitcher talk about the offense, he gets it! Now explain to me again why he does not call plays? Quote
Prophecy Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Gotta say, I'm with Joe. If the RB's get you a combined 17 yards on 12 carries (1.4 ypc) I'd want to throw it more as well. Obviously passing every single snap is not realistic, but shit, if the other option is 1 f**king yard per play? and I have the NFL's Career leader in completion percentage? I'd sling the f'n rock. Quote
volcom69 Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Before this last game Brown was avg close to like 6 yards a carry, and still they hardly ran it. Not sure what happened this game Jags run defense is good, but we can’t act like the run game has not been there, because it has. Just wish they would stick to it a little bit instead of going away. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 If your o-line isn’t run blocking well it’s not helping matters in the least. Yeah I’m looking at you Scott Peters. While your at it fix the pre-snap penalties. Quote

While your at it fix the pre-snap penalties. According to ESPN stats the Bengals have the number 1 run blocking winning percentage. According to Goodberry they were 13th before that Jags game. They have 3 of the best run blockers according to ESPN. So who the hell knows. I think they just don’t run enough. I understand last week because you couldn’t do anything, but the first two weeks you’re averaging like almost 6 yards a carry, you continue to run. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 volcom the video is like five posts up. Watch it. They couldn’t run block to save their lives. Risner is crippled and Mims is a lazy run blocker who makes contact but doesn’t truck guys out of the play, letting them slip past to make tackles. Quote

Yes in that game yes I agree I was saying about the first two games. They were averaging like almost 6 ypc, but they would never stick with the run. Even the Pitt game they had some good runs. No I agree this last game was crap which is why they didn’t run I guess. Years past Zac would always find a way to fix it or to scheme different, so will see if he does that again. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Fixing it is pretty easy, at least on paper. Sit Risner for Rivers so at least we have a healthy RG and light a fire under Mims’ ass to run block with more aggression snd follow through. We’ll see what they do. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 7 Report Posted October 7 Yes I was referring to the Jags game. You simply can’t have that kind of game in the run department and think you are going to win many. Burrow turns into sling’in Joe and passes 50 times in a loss. Quote
Prophecy Posted October 9 Report Posted October 9 Bring back the Run N Shoot. Somebody find old June Jones. Quote
