Bengals hire Scott Peters as the O-line coach and he’s bringing his assistant O-line coach from New England with him, Michael McCarthy.

I don’t know much about him honestly. He was the assistant O-line coach in Cleveland before moving on to New England.

Will be looking him up more.

(keep in mind I love Big Willy personally, great guy, Bengals legend on a really bad team)

so that all said.....he worked under the OL coach for Cleveland when Clevelands OL was elite.....so I love this hire

In all honesty, none of that really means that much to me. The o-line being ready week 1, resulting in a win will see me calling that a great hire. Outside of that, it’s all talk.

Standing by….

Hard disagree. I think this is the most important coaching hire of the offseason. Too much money and too many high draft picks have been invested in our line to have it perform as it has. DC…good luck, you get Trey and a bucket of warm spit. My expectations there are low. But we absolutely must get someone in here who can get all the oline talent to work, because otherwise Joe is going to get killed.

So far I’ve heard nothing but good things about Peters so hopefully he’s that guy.

I think that’s exactly why many coaches should be interested in being the DC here. Expectations are low, but with a QB like Burrow and the power of the offense, getting the defense to middle of the road will be considered a massive success. That would probably be enough to see the team right back in contention after missing out the last two years.

Some nice praise for the new OL coach from McNally.   Hope it works.   Its critical to get some players or any player for that matter to perform in the top tier of OL.     The 3 sack game has just become the norm for the Bengals since the departure of Alexander.

Did we keep the receipt for Al Golden?

Yeah, poor timing for a defensive collapse. But I agree with Army, I doubt it matters. They’re locked in. Only question is whether Al wants the job. Per Dehner, he’ll be in town for an interview tomorrow.

Yup.

After waiting on Notre Dame’s season to come to an end, the Bengals were able to move forward in the process to hire Fighting Irish defensive coordinator Al Golden as Lou Anarumo’s successor. According to Paul Dehner of The Athletic, he will arrive in Cincinnati on Thursday to sign paperwork.

The Bengals interviewed Golden on Wednesday and were finalizing the deal by late afternoon. According to The Athletic, Golden will be bringing in former Patriots defensive line coach Jerry Montgomery to the same role on his staff.

Todays fun fact, courtesy of the South Bend Tribune.

Tommy Rees, Notre Dame’s offensive coordinator from 2020-22, was recently promoted to the same role with the NFL’s Cleveland Browns. Golden and Rees will see each other twice a year as division rivals in the AFC North.

That was a really long DC search for it not to even be a search.  Getting a new DC and a new O line coach should be kind of exciting. I don’t know what it is about them, but the Brown family sucks the fun out of everything.

Like extending Chase.  They should be happy to get him on a long term deal.  He should be happy to get a long extension here with Burrow et al.  I think in a vacuum, both parties want it and would be happy with it.  But instead, as it always seems to with this management team, it turns into an acrimonious shit show.

Per Dehner -

“Golden truly never left Cincinnati. When he coached linebackers in 2020-21 he bought a house on the same street as Taylor. They were neighbors, and his three children were in Cincinnati high schools. Golden took the job in South Bend after the Super Bowl, but he didn’t sell his house or move his family. He stayed neighbors and close friends with Taylor despite spending most of his time in-season at Notre Dame.”
