AMPHAR Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 Big moment for the franchise. Rival fans, media won't eat crow but ever since the Bengals beat the Chiefs in 2021 they've been saying the Bengals couldn't (poverty franchise) or wouldn't (cheap franchise) get this done. Now they all can suck it and pivot to Bengals shouldn't (not a smart franchise) get this done. I think it puts pressure on Trey if they have $30m out there. You really going to be the lone player not to comeback and chase $$$? Best chance to get paid more and win is in Cincinnati. Now Reds get Elly extended and we can be the nexus of the sports world. 1 Quote

Stripes Posted March 15 Report Posted March 15 I feel trolled about all the present progressive tense. "are finalizing" "are closing in on" Can a man get some past tense? (I realize this is unreasonable on my part, but let me bitch) 1 Quote

COB Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 If they get these receivers signed it will be a bit of a departure for the bengals’ front office. So many times in the past, if a draft pick really excelled on that rookie deal they just wouldn’t sign him to a second contract. And it hurt them. Zeitler and Jessie Bates come to mind. Signing both these guys is a step forward and I don’t care if the media points out Burrow pressured them into it, etc. The fact is they did it. We’ve got a great offense. (Assuming we find a guard in FA, they already cut Alex Cappa so we’ve got to do something). Quote
COB Posted March 16 Report Posted March 16 Mike is such a good American it appears he has modeled our free agency strategy on the sonnet inscribed at Ellis Island, The New Colossus: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me” Quote
COB Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Reports out of Paycor Stadium say the Brown family would like to redefine the word “imminent.” Quote
Stripes Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Chase $40.25M APY Higgins $28.75M APY Both slightly lower than I expected (but still substantial). Quote

HoosierCat Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Good take here: https://ftw.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2025/03/17/jamarr-chase-tee-higgins-bengals-contract-extensions-record-setting-grade/82482010007/ Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 A couple tidbits in Dehner’s athletic column on the deals. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6205743/2025/03/17/bengals-jamarr-chase-tee-higgins-fallout/ He thinks the cap relief provided by the extensions will give them room to extend Hendrickson, but provides no numbers, so I don’t know if he knows something or is just guessing. It certainly should be the case, though. He also says they are no longer pursuing Jenkins, if they ever really were. Scherff is still a possibility but obviously a short term solution at best. Quote
AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Structure is the key. I think Justin Jefferson is really the highest non paid QB. Myles Garret details have not been released yet. Justin Jefferson gets $96m first 3 years and then, $126m first 4 years. $110m considered guaranteed. The Max Crosby deal never exceeds any of those numbers. So the media can't afford to wait to report truth it will go on the AAV and their hot takes which is not truth. JJ's cap hits were $9m first year and $15m. So if its structured in the same manner there's significant cap savings. Higgins: I believe Waddle is considered the highest paid No. 2 WR. He gets $53m in 3 years, $77m in 4. His cap hits are $9m first two years. If structured in same manner more cap savings. We'll see. 1 Quote
AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Bengals need Higgins 4 best years. If they get that then this could be gold. If they get the last 2. It could be a problem. Trey is supposedly home shopping in Cincy area, lol. That's off one of the youtube podcast. If the rumors are true the Bengals are offering that. Its hard for him to say no, IMO. If this group returns to the Superbowl and Trey moved on. Its like not going in on the work powerball pool and it hits. 1 Quote
AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Its also clear they were waiting for the Monday news cycle to make it official. Which is kinda like they waited for Thrusday Night opener to report Burrow. Quote

Scherff is still a possibility but obviously a short term solution at best. They better do something. If the plan is move someone to guard from the existing roster, they need to think again. Cappa was bottom 10% in the league and he was still better than anyone else on the roster. Scherff’s up! 1 Quote
AMPHAR Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 I hope Schreff is in play. I'm sure the Manning Colts comparison's are coming. Neither Bengals or Colts, IMO, when they were at the bottom before Manning or Burrow set foot and said WE must have 2 top WRs at the start. Its a matter of paying and retaining the parts that have worked out. In the case of Manning. Faulk and Harrison were already on the roster and unexpected 1997 meltdown landed them Manning. They were in the playoffs 95 and 96. Its a zero sum game and something Tobin has not proven to win at. He must add top pieces while drafting in the 2nd half of rounds. 1 Quote
TJJackson Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 My dead gramma is bulking up to play OG right now, as well as backup DT. yes, she's a two way player. should be ready by training camp 1 Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 Re guard, it seems clear from Peters' comments about Volson's issues being technique and not talent that Cordell is going to get another shot. I expect they will sign a FA guard. Said guard will be better than Cappa, but only because Cappa was so bad. But I would bet that he will end up as a backup and that the other starting guard will come in the draft. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 Glad to see both Chase and Tee getting done. Love being able to give the media the finger today. Oddly, I haven't seen too much of the "Stupid Bengals" take, but more the "This was unexpected" thought process. Agree with the Peters thinking he can help Volson, but I think that's going to be a short leash. Cappa was never the OG he was in Tampa and that was unfortunate because I LOVED that signing at the time. I'm hoping we see another situation play out where they take an OG early without anointing him day one. Much like Mims wasn't expected to start, but injuries happened and when he got his chance, he did well with it. Draft at least one OG early and maybe even a second one later on depending on how things fall. Scherff? They should have him on a plane right now and not let him leave. It's getting to be bare bones. No FA OG signing at this point is going to keep them from drafting one though. Really excited to hear TJ's dead gramma is 100% and expects to be ready to go. CHAMPIONSHIP !!! 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted March 17 Author Report Posted March 17 I wonder how Al Golden is feeling today with all the money being thrown around on the offensive side of things? Haven't really heard much from him regarding the team extending Trey's contract, but have to think he has to be wanting to keep him for his defense and hoping to get some of that coin used on his side of the ball. Either that or being told minus an OG, the rest of the draft picks are his to use. LOL... Quote

Trying to outrun other teams failed miserably last year, but even a slightly improved defense should help turn those closer losses from last season into wins in 2025. That's what I'm hoping for heading into this season at least. Quote
TJJackson Posted March 17 Report Posted March 17 I am willing to bet whatever good money I have (spoiler: I have none) that Kirkland will play a significant role this year At 6'7" he'd be one of the tallest OGs ever, but still 1 Quote
