HoosierCat
We’ll be waiting all day for Sunday night again. I’m growing to hate late games but at least I have Monday off. Reportedly NBC wanted to flex this game out for Ravens/Commanders (no surprise there) but CBS protected the game, so here we are, two teams with a combined record of 3-7 in prime time. I’m actually expecting the Bengals to handle business against the Giants and get that second win.
COB
Just looked at our schedule. Coming up we have Giants, Browns, Eagles, Raiders, Ravens. We could run the table on those 5, we end up 6-4 as we head out west to play the Chargers. There is hope.
HoosierCat
So Dax is gone for the year and they signed a…guard? Yep. Off the Atlanta PS, some ex-Michigan guy, Andrew Steuber. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Stueber Whatever. ETA I see he played RT in college so that makes a bit more sense. ETA 2 Ah, the explanation: Kirkland tore his bicep yesterday, out for the year. https://www.si.com/nfl/bengals/news/bengals-offensive-lineman-jaxson-kirkland-suffered-torn-bicep-in-loss-to-ravens-01j9m6kzx4mb Tough break, he seemed to coming along this year. ArmyBengal
I remember Stueber from the draft. Picked him in some of my mock drafts late. Don’t have a take on him but I guess. Sucks to lose Dax. I can’t find much to be excited about knowing the defense is not going to get better this year. Hate to say it, but I really believe the season is over. It’s like the Reds. Once you know they’ve hit their potential and it won’t improve, I find it hard to watch. Not sure I even watch. No one cares if I do or don’t but for as mad as I was, I find myself in a state of don’t care. Sad because I was really hopeful for Tee’s last season here.
volcom69
Sick feeling for Dax, he was playing probably the best on the defense besides Trey. He was really coming along as the season was going on. So if they are serious about this season, and they see Burrow and this offense starting to put together one of the best offenses, then they would be serious about finding guys to help this defense! The safeties they brought in are shit Geno Stone has he made one play? Von Bell he is old and slow! The DT are trash, the LB are ok, and the corners are young and have no clue. There is no leadership on the defense, the backfield continues to confused and clueless who to cover! Lou has no idea how to fix this, he keeps trying new things that don’t work! This team can’t draft. I dont know is there a trade that could happen, they need to do something before they just lose the whole locker, and if that happens who knows if there is any coming back. Figure this shit out!
HoosierCat
Credit to Lou, he tried everything Sunday and nothing worked because he just doesn’t have the playmakers. Until someone(s) step up it’s not going to get better. That said, every team doesn’t have Lamar and if the Bengals can pressure Jones next Sunday night like they did Jackson I think good things will happen on D. Zac was also talking today about Rankins practicing this week and his return would help, too. I’m not expecting it until Cleveland at the soonest, but one can hope. Not really seeing any trades happening unless the Bengals are willing to part with high future draft picks. I’m not doing that at 1-4 and no one is trading for Tee for half a season. If I’m Lou, my message to all the young guys/backups/teamers is, prove to me you’re a starter. I’ll put you out there, you make a play, you can earn the job. Exhibit A, Tycen Anderson. Haven’t seen him outside teams since preseason two years ago when he robbed Green Bay twice. Get him on the field! DJ Turner, guess what, you’re up now. Etc, etc.

Mike Brown is serious. About this new gross profit margin number that Quickbooks is spitting out. This can’t be right can it? Get the Quickbooks support guy on the phone. It’s complementary for 2 years, it’s half the reason we did the whole cloud migration thing.

glasgowbengal
I’ll be across the pond and at the game on Sunday night, as visiting the cousins in NYC. I’ve a 6-3-1 record heading into my 11th live game. Hopefully I’m not leaving at half time to go back to the pub!!

He got McCarthy fired in Green Bay (rightfully so, in my opinion). We’ll see what comes out in the offseason, but I’d be shocked if Rogers didn’t stab this dude in the back. He’ll say something like, “I’m immunized against responsibility for Robert’s firing.”
AMPHAR
15 minutes ago, HoosierCat said: Can he play safety? Is it really the safeties? I think the league has figured out Lou. 1 year with young newly starting safeties that excuse can fly. Same issue in year 2 with 2 bona fide NFL starting safeties? yeah not buying it. QBs know to go with the ball quickly vs. his calls. Lou's defenses have never been good vs. yardage rankings. He has made his calling on some wonderful playoff games. In 2020 this defense played almost to the extact same level and we are seeing today. I think they lost/tied a couple games in which Burrow led comebacks only to give it up in the last minutes. Next two weeks they have Giants and Browns. It shouldn't be hard to hold them at their current offensive averages.
AMPHAR
Saleh was a horrible head coach. Might be a good DC but not good HC.
WelshBengal
I would have Salah as DC in a nano second.

AMPHAR
17 hours ago, HoosierCat said: We don’t have any bona fide nfl safeties. Bullshit. Geno Stone was a lot of people's best FA signing. Lou jumped out of his skin to get Vonn Bell. Who was a prized Carolina signing and a player most fans didn't want to lose to Carolina. Go look at the preseason training camp reports about how good this defense was doing. They were doing so fucking good, Joe's wrist was about to fall off apparently. Now you hit regular season AND nobody can play in the NFL? What a bunch of bullshit. Lou is shitting the bed 2 seasons in a row. The "talent" excuse or lack of talent excuse for Lou is about to get tested these two weeks. Giants and Browns are horrible on offense. It would not shock me they score and gain above their average. AMPHAR
Probably the saddest part about the season and overall record is Joe Burrow is having MVP type season so far. Has played 1 bad half and after that has been great. Chase after two slow starts is on fire as well. Just a flip of a couple plays and Joe has wins over Pat and Lamar and tied for first. Crazy to think about it. Qbs with over 150 attempts. He leads the league in Passer rating 113. Completion percentage. TDs. Tied for lowest Int. 6th in yards. Through 5 games. Defense was looking so good in camp vs. Joe people thought his wrist was falling off, lol.

He’s never around the plays and when he is he can’t tackle. Bell is washed. He looks like he’s running in molasses. There’s a reason Carolina cut him. Because Stone, Bell and just about every defender had them frustrated every day at camp. Was that made up? How many Free Agents and draft picks does Lou need to make his system reach mid pack of the NFL? The only one that is washed is Lou, period. Keep in mind we are not talking about needing NFL caliber safeties to recreate Trent Dilfer Baltimore Ravens or Monster of the Midway. Lou has plenty of NFL talent to achieve his Bengal high water mark of being a mid pack yardage allowed defense and points allowed defense. That level of defense has them 5-0, 4-1. Hell they are almost that with this shit defense. Just because he's being out coached doesn't mean players all of sudden are washed. In August, they played so well vs Burrow/Higgins etc people actually tried to create a narrative that Joe's wrist was damaged. Keep in mind a month later Joe is playing like an MVP vs. other NFL defenses. The blame is mostly Lou. You can watch him all game long in multiple games give the opposing offense easy yards on 2nd down. His bend don't break philosophy isn't working. In TC. They know the Bengals scheme on D and O. Its talent v. talent. Defense won many days down there. The D won a bunch vs. the Colts in controlled practice. Lou and the D had a decent week 1 and week 2 vs. his standard. You start interjecting game plan and scheme the distance between what was August reality vs. the past 3 weeks is too far off the mark to only be explained well this guy is washed. Doesn't make sense. How many more Free Agents that are NFL starters or top 150 draft picks does Lou need to get a 15th ranked yardage D? Hold an opponent under 30 points? The one where they could only manage 10 points and looked like they didn’t know how to play the game? That’s the offense they were “dominating” in camp, the one that need a couple weeks of the real thing to figure out how to play football again. What the D did in August practices means nothing, because the offense was still a joke at that point.
