Week 5: Ravens @ Bengals

I've heard Jackson called many things, but savior is not one of them.
I'm sure there's a fan out there that is just over the top for the dude though and making comments like that.

I don't like or dislike him as a player and honestly I don't know what we have in him at this point and only game snaps will show that.
He played a lot of NT at TA&M, but most write ups I saw about him didn't think that was the best way to use him.
I did see someone make a silly comparison to Atkins.  Atkins should have never fell the to 4th round, but did because of size.
Jackson is viewed as an average athlete, with some burst off the line and some nice pass rush moves.  Atkins was the most athletic DT in his class.

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for the young man to be all of Atkins and more.  I'm just not betting on that.
To be truthful, we don't even need that from him.  We just need a slightly above average DT to not be a doormat to opposing offenses.
You know... kind of what we have right now.

There's no savior coming off the bench or off IR.   The D has always been bend don't break under Lou.   That's all you can hope for in a return of the D.   To be truthful that's exactly what they were in 3 of the 4 weeks.

Its the Washington game that has everyone freaked out.    They are going to bleed yards in a bunch of games including this week.    You got to hold on to that INT when it comes your way or make Lamar unreliable when he throws it.  You got to make them snap the ball 10/12 times to score and eliminate your best CB getting beat in seconds (no D-line is going help when that BS is going on).

You have to put scoring pressure on the other team, period.   If Baltimore feels like it can just pound into the line of scrimmage and worse case punt, win the game in low/mid 20s.  They'll lose.    Baltimore has to feel like they must throw and score 30+ in order to win.

They aren't going to be what they never were under Lou with anyone drafted/coached under him.  Its a bend but don't break mentality.

Mike Hilton isnt practicing, so my best guess is that CTB will start as one of the outside corners despite last weeks kerfluffle

The two Michigan kids will start at the other two corner spots

I'd really like to see MOO MAA! MOO MAA! in to stop the run this week

You know....  CTB, Hill and Turner should be a really nice CB set for this team.
Need that group to really bring it, along with the safeties.
Hoping Geno Stone might be able to provide some insight to what he knows about the Ravens offense as well.
Really wanting to see him go out there and play a good game against his former team.

Watching it as well.  Early on they showed the highlights of the game Mayfield, having been with the Rams two days, went berserk on prime time and lead them on a 90 yard game winning drive against the Raiders.

All I could think was, how in the world were the bengals not on the receiving end of that one?  Completely fits our MO.  So glad we dodged that.

All in Sunday: Hendrickson, Hill, Murphy AND Jackson will all play against Baltimore, per Zac.

Rankins and Hilton are not officially out but they’re out.

Morrison is betting Guy get waived to make room for Jackson, which make sense but I’m not sure I wouldn’t dump Tufele instead.

Adams wants out of Vegas, supposedly hinting around that he’s headed to Baltimore.  We’ll see.

Everything I’ve seen is that he wants to go to the Jets (because Rogers).

Kind of annoying that Carman and Carter were both “wtf” picks in the 2nd/3rd rounds and ended up being even worse than “wtf” players.

Get your shit together, Duke.

I have to cut him some slack on that draft. It was the post-Covid 2021 draft and it was widely derided for its lack of talent. They did get Ja’Marr and McPherson out of it, Sample’s been decent and Ossai is, well,  not a complete bust.

Carter was the 2022 draft, but yes at least they got CTB (I think? I hope?) and Dax (I think? I hope?) and Volson (I think? I hope?) that time around.

Ah, you’re right. And yeah all those others were 2022. Tycen Anderson too, I believe he’s still kicking around on teams. Really outside of Carter that was a good draft.

As long as we’re talking draft, just for kicks I pulled pff grades for some of the prominent DTs we talked about earlier this year. Only four games so no conclusions can be reached, just wondered how things were stacking up now that Jackson is entering the mix.

Byron Murphy 56.5

Darius Robinson 83.1

Jer’Zhan Newton 39.5

Ruke Orhorhoro 71.7

T’Vondre Sweat 80.1

Kris Jenkins 68.4

Now rumors are flying that the Steelers are trying to get him.

And the Saints and the Bills…and the guy is still hobbled by a hammy. Please Pitt flush some draft picks down the drain for this gold digger.
