TJJackson
NFL gonna have to work with NFLPA again to tighten down rookie contracts a bit more Its good that very few rookies - just 2 right now in the whole league - are unsigned But Mims D E S P E R A T E L Y needs snaps
ArmyBengal
Now Mims is the only 1st round pick that remains unsigned. Any other excuses to not get this done? While I’m sure it will, this is just silly.
HoosierCat
My sources indicate Mims’ camp is objecting to clauses in his deal that require him to check the local supermarket before practice for day-old half-price bread, and to detail Mike’s Lumina every Saturday.
TJJackson
its done i'd bet an arbys italian sub and a large order of potato cakes that one of the hangups was he wanted to get his signing bonus to a full 8

HoosierCat
Zac said today that Burrow will get some preseason snaps. Burrow has also been cleared for contact, so it’s full speed ahead, at least until he gets a paper cut or something…
ArmyBengal
$15 million dollars for the first 4 years if the guy hits is so ridiculously lopsided for the team it's unbelievable. Thank you rookie wage scale !! Glad this is done, but knew it would be.
COB
Agreed, if this dude turns out to be a player, what an incredible bargain. That union should build escalator clauses into those rookie deals. Like Tee Higgins, there could be like built-in resentment in a player like that who outplays his deal. Just part of the game, but it could be improved for everyone- team and player. Stripes
Joe playing in the preseason is terrifying, but I suppose him playing in any game is terrifying at the moment. Keep my golden god in one piece, please.
ArmyBengal
They all need preseason reps. If only a couple of series in the game, but something to help them all get in the same page and achieve the ever elusive fast start.
ArmyBengal
So the Bengals are serious and talking about an extension for Ja’Marr but Mike doesn’t necessarily expect to get it done this year ?? Someone is really going to have to explain why they would want to wait when prices do nothing but go up. Doesn't seem like the best approach to me but what do I know? AMPHAR
There still blurbs and what not that the Chase camp is waiting on other deals. If it were me, I'd be holding out and forcing the Bengals hand.
AMPHAR
The playing of starters in preseason meaningless practice games will grab headlines. I don't think you need to grind them like they did back Marvin years. I do question the thought process of how you are protecting Joe by avoiding preseason games but at the same time rolling out a line Weeks 1-4 that is clearly not ready to play. The o-line protection stats for an entire season are not good and haven't been that way since they got rid of Alexander. Draw your own conclusions. But as bad as their entire regular season performance is the first 4 weeks are even worse which is amazing considering they are lucky to go through a game giving up less than 3 sacks. The 3 sack game and I don't even know how many pressures has become the gold standard post Alexander for any line they have rolled out on to that field. Its amazingly bad. Then you factor in carries for loss, no gain, or even 1 yard its even worse. Games like the Titans last year. Steelers year before simply put Joe at risk and its an unprepared lazy pass protecting group. I think you got to get that group out there for a quarter or two. Haven't tried in a long time. Might as well if they aren't going to fire a OL coach and OL scouts.
TJJackson
Mike is a piece of shit, basically. Dont expect logical decisions. Expect decisions that put an extra dollar in his pocket, or avoid him having to spend said dollar you know, like having an F rated nutrition/meals group for a group of folks whose body condition is a huge factor in their success (or lack thereof) hold on, I'll be back after I deliver a case of gatorade over to one of the defensive backs
HoosierCat
A few tidbits from the .com. First, they are counting on Hill to make the jump and are not in the market for a vet corner, per Duke. Quote "I like what we've got there. We've got young guys that can run and cover who have a lot of upside to them. We've got some new guys working in there and it will be exciting to see how they do," Tobin said. "Do I feel like we have an immediate need for a veteran to make our team? No. Maybe if our numbers are down and we need some help at camp, but as we go we'll determine that. I feel good about it. We've got a pretty good mix of veterans, guys coming into their own, and some young guys." Expect some weird shit due to the changes in kickoffs. Quote Simmons hasn't ruled out using a position player to kick off, but he won't reveal the guys he has in mind. Could one be starting linebacker Logan Wilson, a big-time high school kicker? Zac is playing the whole starters-playing-in-the-preseason thing by ear. Quote "I'm anticipating playing our guys. How much, how many games, is to be determined," Taylor said. "The schedule is a little quirky with the second and third games being kind of back-to-back, and we're practicing with both those teams, as well, so you get good work there. Certainly, I do see our starters playing at some point. How much or little will kind of be dictated through the first two weeks of practice and how I feel about that." Yeah, Hobson hints that it's the oline pushing (or is part of the push) for preseason playing time. Quote As veterans like center and captain Ted Karras emphasize getting out of the gate quickly to counter the 0-2 starts of the past two seasons, the Bengals have scheduled for the first time ever two joint practices in the same preseason. We all know the injury risks but like you said, what they've been doing has not worked, so this change makes sense.
Stripes
I have never been convinced that the lack of preseason playtime caused the slow starts in the first place, but I wouldn't blame them for changing something up. Carefully.
ArmyBengal
I will applaud them for making ANY effort to not come out week one looking like they just learned how to play football. These first few weeks over the last handful of years have just been embarrassing.

At a guess, they're waiting on next year's $400 million check from the league. Then they will have the cash to do the deal. It will be more expensive, but it's all OPM to them (at least the half of that check they have to give to players is).
