ArmyBengal
Not only was he not ready to start the season, he’s now no longer with the team. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/bengals-release-lael-collins-off-pup-list
ArmyBengal
If he was going to be ready to go, I would have thought they would hold onto him considering o-line and all. That being said, they do get some coin back with his release and maybe that plays a part in working future contracts.
HoosierCat
Bummer, was hoping he could make it back. Odd timing. Does save then $6 million against the cap and almost $7 million in actual cash this year (tho there may be an injury settlement involved, dunno) and another $7 million against the cap next season. volcom69
This is kind of odd. Guess will see if there is a reason going forward, for this release

ArmyBengal
Hard to say really. It will be interesting to see what come out. Maybe he wanted out, maybe his knee is done, maybe the Bengals are going to use the saved money to extend Higgins, maybe anything… The timing is the thing I’m left confused with. Stripes
Trade deadline…? In-season cap space for a new toy?
HoosierCat
At a guess, I’d say it was wholly financial. They just emptied their bank account for Joe and, even if they can’t keep Tee, have a bunch more FAs next year in addition to him, as Army’s pointed out. This move gives them back $12 million in cash that they won’t spend on Collins this year and next, and $13 million in extra cap space next year, assuming they don’t use any this year and carry it all over. If Collins was healthy it would have been different but he was reported to be at least 4-6 weeks away. That’s a lot of money going to a guy on the bench and the Bengals are feeling especially poor right now. Always the chance they could re-sign him down the road, I don’t think he will have any immediate interest given the condition of his knee. AMPHAR
1. Could be some off the field stuff. 2. Could be financial. Can they roll over some cap room? They have his dead money split between this year and next 3. He might be washed. Was horrible early last year. Competent late. I don't care how much you rehab its alot of miles on tires. However, they've missed Superbowls largely in part of OL injuries. So I hate to see any competent potential depth disappear.
ArmyBengal
Coach Zac spoke about Collins' release, alludes to nothing more than there's not a great time to release someone and it sucks. Only way he's not better depth than either Smith or Jackson is if he's hurt.
