TJJackson
so this is a seriously big fucking barrel of crazy sauce, and if true, Anarumo needs to be shipped out IMMEDIATELY https://www.cincyjungle.com/2021/2/5/22258710/carl-lawson-bengals-news Cincyjungle is also pushing this new talking head, Ace Boogie, as a "Bengals insider" and this info/story came from him, so........big grain of salt? membengal
I'm gonna take it with massive grains of salt.
HoosierCat
Ace’s info was solid last year. He isn’t really saying anything here we didn’t already know. And this is stuff we’ve seen in the past, where a player is used in a way that fits the scheme but doesn’t utilize their full potential. Think Justin Smith. Some coaches are good at putting players in a position to succeed, some are wedded to their scheme.
TJJackson
as I read the article, Ace is claiming that Lou told Lawson to not use some of his moves, ie play suboptimally I dont think thats something any of us already knew I certainly didnt
TJJackson
I would also like to understand Ace's credentials better to me, he just seems like some kind of attention seeking youtuber where attention = money and prior to a few days ago, I had never heard of the guy, ever. came out of the woodwork, so to speak
COB
Using “moves” is not a good way of phrasing it. Some pass rushing techniques, if they don’t work initially, lead to the rusher getting pushed way out of position. Like upfield, for instance. If you’re facing a running QB, pass rushers are told to limit the variety of techniques so even if you don’t get to the QB you at least stay in position and contain the QB. For instance every team, including the Bengals, limit what their pass rushing ends are allowed to do when facing Baltimore. You get pushed upfield against that QB and he’s going to really hurt you. So Lawson may not have been turned loose with a speed rush that requires him to turn the corner. Probably more bull rush-like techniques used in that game. So Lawson telling people he’d have gotten more sacks if he was allowed to use any move on any play? He’s right. Also correct is that when he didn’t get home we would have given up some big plays. 1
COB
Having said all of the above, if anyone wants to fire Lou for not turning Lawson loose with a license to kill on every play, I’m all for it as long as we hire Wade Phillips. TJJackson
to me, its just another nail in the coffin for the DC
AMPHAR
Lawson is a FA looking for big money without big sack numbers. He’s secretly or quietly productive. PFF hero because they take the effort to go deeper and track pressures etc. Lou deserves no benefit of the doubt. Dunlap was unhappy. They did move on from the d-line coach. AMPHAR
Marvin never unleashed Dunlap. Marvin even publicly criticized him once for “rushing” too much. It’s all scheme talk.
