(Bust His) Cherry Carbine Bowl: Ravens @ Bengals Pregame Thread

* INJURY UPDATE:* Green figures to be joined by cornerback Dre Kirkpatrick (knee) and right guard Alex Redmond (knee/ankle) in the out category Friday. None have practiced this week. Even though left tackle Cordy Glenn (concussion) went through a padded practice full for the first time in months, Taylor indicated it might be hard to play a guy coming off that long of a layoff after just one practice.

But three regulars who have been out of the lineup the last couple of weeks went full and are go. John Miller (groin) figures to play for Redmond, Carl Lawson (hamstring) is back as an edge rusher and Darqueze Dennard (hamstring) is back at slot corner, which means B.W. Webb figures to stay on the outside for Kirkpatrick.  Also, left tackle Andre Smith (ankle), out the last three games, figures to start again.

Is it me or has there been something wrong with the benga’s medical team for sometime?

How is it that other teams have injuries but yet the players are always back in a week or two. The bengals players have a hang nail and are out for months. I think it’s time for some replacements there.

The Bengals’ (on) crack medical staff has always been bad.

And yes, broadly speaking, it has often been the case that the players are in no particular rush to get back on the field (waves at Carson’s elbow, Housh’s hammy, various other players’ body parts).

A third factor, though not in play here, is the team’s absolute gift for drafting brittle players. Chris Perry, Tyler Eifert, John Ross, etc. Maybe even our shiny new barely unwrapped first round OT whatshisface.

Behind a paywall, but Dehner sees an open door for AJ.

From the follow on tweets, it sounds like his thesis is that the ankle flaring up this week makes a long term deal in Cincy less likely. Which seems reasonable to me. If he does go elsewhere next season, what a sad end to his story here.

If he doesn’t play this year. Tag him.

No need for drama.   That protects the team.  Gives the player a good 1 year deal.

He won’t sit out.  He’s 32 and IF doesn’t play this year it would be 2 years of missed action.

If the ankle is still swelling that’s a bad deal for AJ and Bengals.

Tag is the easy way out.

I agree. Question is, do the Bengals? Again, next year it will be 7 years since they used the tag.

(Other wrinkle if you really want to get into the weeds: IIRC 2020 is the last year of the current CBA so teams can use both the franchise and transition tags.)
